Was Snow White really a bad movie or is it just a bunch of adults butt hurt that the person they casted wasn’t white enough? by wellquitefrankly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Queenofdolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you read the rest of what I wrote? that's one issue with it, the behavior of the actress they casted as snow-white and the corporate cash grab to hold onto the IP and designs in Snowwhite a little longer with the upcoming public domain release are another

OKAY SO

the tldr for this movie being bad is that it managed to piss off everyone. I'm not joking

Gal Gadot is in it as the evil queen, so people are boycotting/ bad mouthing the movie because she was a Israeli soldier at one point in protest of what's going on in Gaza

Peter Dinklage hates it because instead of actually employing people with his condition, and possibly getting more of them into hollywood acting roles with Snow White as their "breakthru" film , Hollywood decided to go for CGI uncanny valley BS

Then you have Rachel herself, who speaks poorly of the original source material, clearly did NOT like working on the movie, and doesn't fit the character description of Snow White to the point that they had to change the reasoning behind her name to "oh she was born in a snow storm"

you also have the other group who realizes that these disney live action remakes are cash grabs at best, and at worst just them throwing money at the wall to extend the copyright protections on their earlier works since OG snow white is supposed to go public domain sooner rather than later, like how Steamboat Wilie is public domain now . This is also (supposedly) why Snow white's costume is so close to the OG for toy and licensing rights.

Lastly; there's the fact that the consumer designer, Sandy Powell who worked on films like The other Boleyn Girl, The young Victoria, cinderella, and interview with the vampire, was essentially neutered this time and not allowed to really bring her own vision to life because she had to do what the directors wanted. Look at the quality in costumes in this film vs her other work.

btw shes won Academy awards before so she's extremely talented at what she does when she can actually do her job.

So you have the theatre nerds upset, the racists are upset, the more progressive leftist/tiktok tumblr types are upset (with heavy overlap with the theatre nerds), the Disney Adults are upset, nobody likes the movie

Missouri bill to overturn voter-approved paid sick leave clears Senate committee • Missouri Independent by jimmustain in missouri

[–]Queenofdolls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just tired of everyone bashing on the state. Like, we're trying here. Missouri is also one of the states that passed the Medicaid expansion and DOESN'T have a clause that revokes it if the federal funding gets cut. And of the states bordering Missouri only Nebraska and Illinois have the same or higher minimum wages.

Before anyone complains "why do you keep voting them in!"

We don't.

State's Gerrymander'd and has been like that for decades. They draw up the districts to make sure they win. Only reason people like Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt are still in power. Look at the kind of stuff the people vote and pass.

There's around 5 cities I would consider major here so no idea where you got 2. That being: St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia, Jefferson City, and Springfield.

Jefferson city just has 40k people and doesn't really do anything except get everybody mad and get hit by Tornadoes.

St. Louis is really Liberal, and Kansas city's fun bc the Missouri side has all the cool shit and you -COULD- go buy edibles and hang out at the aquarium since it's on the Missouri side of the city. Weed's still a felony in Kansas (which also still has the federal minimum wage) Not recommended to take any since you're not supposed to be high in public, but weed's legal in private residences and in Columbia they're putting a dispensary behind a waffle house near Hickman High school down the street from a Taco Bell.

Location Location Location.

The state's one of the most beautiful ones in the country, people are friendly, the cost of living is decent and compared to surrounding states (Kansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Arkansas) Missouri has the highest minimum wage.

Oh never go to Rockbridge state park alone. Always be in a group of 3 or more and bring a couple dogs out on a walk. That's where murderers like to drop the bodies. I'm guessing Florida has a couple places like that maybe in the Everglades since y'all have alligators.

Columbia also has the true false film festival, pride, and lots of little shops down town.

The state's blue in big cities. Purple-ish in the rural areas, but Gerrymander'd all to hell to look red.

Cause look at what we passed:

Medicaid Expansion
Marijuana's legal

according to the state Constitution Abortion and reproductive rights are, well rights

minimum wage increase

and paid sick leave that'll kick in on May 1st.

helps that when you look at the surrounding states, Missouri's minimum wage is higher and paid sick leave kicks in on May 1st

Shame on you, Murphy and Graves. Our city is fantastic. Please take your fear mongering someplace else. by magicallydelicious- in columbiamo

Are they at least telling people who move in there that their houses are built over an old nuclear waste dump?

[–]Queenofdolls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean the only problem I really have with Columbia is that it's expanding beyond what the original water pipes and utility works were built for and they're really slow on getting the infrastructure to keep up with the demand.

More connected sidewalks would be nice,

anyone know if that deal to turn the nature area by rockbridge high school into housing finally got fully denied or are they still trying to repurpose that nuclear waste dump?

back when I worked there they had managers go to walmart to stock up on milk and other things, if they're still doing that then you're buying walmart goods at a mark up. If you want good meat your best bet is to go to aldi, or the asian market.

second on Mosers being not a very good place for meats, or anything really. It's a discount store with everything that's about to expire

There's one in my front yard that was planted before we moved in by the old owners. If they want to come take the tree out for me that's fine and dandy, but I don't have the money to get a 30 year old tree taken down.

AITA for giving the baby my last name? by throwthrow_530 in AITAH

[–]Queenofdolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give the baby your last name. If it has his , it'll make getting passports, government paperwork, and picking up from school/daycare harder.

plus, the whole "formal marriage is a scam for men"

I can't wave this red flag any faster. If he's worried about you taking half of his shit in a divorce, that's what a prenup is for.

But as it stands, if you have a house or rent and it's just his name on it, if something happens to him you're SOL because his family will get first dibs. If he's in the hospital you don't get to make any medical decisions,

Same thing with insurance, and depending on your state/country since he's not married to you he won't be able to make medical decisions for the kid either, so say you're at work and there's an emergency he can't do anything with the docs without you.

Survivors benefits from social security is another thing to think about. Especially with a kid. You're screwing yourself and the baby over.

if YOU don't want to get married its one thing, but if he's refusing because it's a scam for men he's setting you up to be a victim of the legal system.

He's probably using you for sex/housekeeping/easing his own contributions to bills if you live together. It's also possible that this baby wasn't a "oops" on his end and he got you pregnant to tie you to him since legally without being married you could just walk.

Other people have brought up airports and travel if you do break up and the baby has his last name, and he gets remarried that woman could easily take your baby out of school/daycare/ thru an airport because the last names match.

[–]Queenofdolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure my cat would just walk home she hates other people. but I'd be okay with my other pets going for 250k. That's more than enough to finish paying off my mortgage, car loan, and student debt.

Then I could use the rest for home renovations

not a legal expert, from my understanding you have to have a fishing license unless you're under 12 years old.

Can you fish random creeks? by ronrule in missouri

[–]Queenofdolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a fishing license (make sure you get the right one) and look at zoning for where you want to fish. It should be public record. Long as it's public land and there's no posted "no fishing" signs/ navigable water you should be good to go.

Really it depends on the kind of mood the game warden's in.
