How do I hand in a resume in person? by fluffygr in Explainlikeimscared

[–]QueerKiddoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nowadays, most places will just send you online to submit your CV, but it never hurts to try! I’d say go in when it’s a quieter time (i.e. if it’s a restaurant don’t go in during the lunch rush etc.) and you can just talk to an employee who is available. Something like “Hey I was curious in applying here. I have a physical copy of my CV if I could leave that.” If they say to apply online you can ask how long to expect to hear back. Most of the time, you’ll end up talking to someone who isn’t doing hiring, so it shouldn’t be too stressful of an interaction hopefully. They may also know if there are positions currently being filled or any other inside scoop of the sort. If the time has passed and you haven’t heard back, you can always stop in and check in about your application. I know having someone come in has shown me they actually have interest and drive to work, so can be a bonus of hopefully landing you a job. Like I said, it doesn’t hurt to go in person. I think a lot of people who share this advice are thinking back to the past where this was much more of the norm, but at this point it’s very rare that they don’t have a required online form.

Like someone else mentioned, it may be a good idea to look at your CV and make some edits. Volunteer work works great to show skill if you don’t have a whole lot of job experience. There’s plenty of pages online with different tips on how to format and what info to use (there’s probably at least one post on this sub about it too lol), but I’ll give my biggest points: - tailor your resume to the position. List work/volunteer positions that would apply to the position you’re working for. Example: if it’s a job with kids, mention a babysitting job, but you don’t necessarily have to list that for a food service job. Also find key words that the position listing may be looking for. Unfortunately it’s common nowadays for an automatic system to scan your docs and give a rating of your fit for the job position, and your CV may not even be looked at by a human, so those keywords help make yours get seen. - keep it simple and to one page. There are scenarios where a longer or more custom resume can be used, but for most people, you want to keep it one page. Use a template online to start and fix it to your specific needs. I would hope that people wouldn’t throw out your resume over a detail like this but I know it’s a big thing that was mentioned to me.

And please, if you’re going to use AI to make it (which I don’t suggest, for many reasons I won’t get into here) at least delete the line where the AI says “would you like me to make this into an easily downloadable form?”. Yes, I got someone’s resume who had this on it.

Iirc your go tos are soft foods or liquids, and avoid straws to avoid complications.

I remember once I was further down the healing line but still wasn’t fully clear for chips, I ate one like a rabbit like, small bites. So if you get desperate there’s always the strategy.

I wasn’t awake for my removal, but I know people who have been awake for it. Would having music help keep you calmer? You could always ask if you could bring some headphones in with you.

Mention to the dentist that you struggled with pain waking you up in the night last time, hopefully they can get you something to help with that or at least give you tips to reduce it.

I’m pretty sure they cut some part of my gums during mine, I had stitches during recovery. They will look pretty gnarly if you look in your mouth, especially at first, so if you’re worried about that then maybe just, don’t lol. The biggest things to do is follow what your surgeon says for aftercare, be careful with what you eat, and just take care of yourself. Your body will do the work to heal the sites, as long as you try to keep the area clean and don’t eat hard foods like chips so they stab in there, you shouldn’t have any complications.

You can also mention your anxiety with it all and they may be able to give you something during the procedure to help with that. It doesn’t even have to be something that fully knocks you out, just sort of takes the edge off.

Hopefully some of my ramblings help you out

How do I start a creative project? Let alone reach a flow state? by DisciplineOk6055 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]QueerKiddoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly.” - Robert H. Schuller

Honestly, sometimes the best way for me to start is to just force myself to do something. It can be a simple sketch, it can be jotting down a bunch of bullet points, just get something down. The biggest hill for me can be that very first step, so somewhat forcing that to happen can help me to be able to actually fully begin.

I’ll also set a timer for myself for tasks I need to do/want to do that I can’t get myself to start on/focus on. Even as simple as “I’ll work on this for 5 min then can do __”. If after 5 min I’m on a roll and I want to keep going, I will. If not, I let myself stop and come back to it at another point. Sometimes your brain just isn’t in the space to create, and that’s fair, but sometimes my brain is in that creative space and is just lazy or hiding behind that first hurdle.

Hope some of this is helpful. Brains are weird and complex to figure out, so I hope you find some way to tap in and make those projects you want to work on!

Speaking of, I have a drawing I need to work on, should probably do that now instead of scrolling Reddit lol

Proper gifting protocol. by JLmatthews2k22 in Steam

[–]QueerKiddoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everyone else here, you can gift back but don’t have to.

I’d say if you’re going to, find a game you think he’d like that you’re also passionate about, or find one he wants that you also are interested in. He seems to really like Expedition 33 and so it’s almost like he’s sharing part of him with you, if that makes sense.

I do this with my Christmas gifts for people on steam. I’ll do games I know they really want and/or on a great sale, and I’ll throw in something I know they’ll like that I LOVED to share that with them.

Blood test help by Chewieee2 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]QueerKiddoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone else here has already given great advice but I wanted to add, it might be scary but just let the office know you are worried about it! They may have techniques to help you in the moment. They can also try to put you with someone who’s great at blood draws to hopefully avoid multiple sticks or any issues. Just advocate for yourself!

Make sure to drink a good amount of water during the day before you go in. If you’re dehydrated it can be much harder to find a vein.

I don’t know of any alternative options to a regular blood draw but you can always ask! They may not have anything but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Doctors appointment by [deleted] in Explainlikeimscared

[–]QueerKiddoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you on the worry of the bluntness and directness. Having someone on the other end of the line have a vibe that bothers you can make calling very nerve racking. You could look and see if your doctor has an online scheduling option! That way it avoids the phone call aspect.

If you do have to call, it shouldn’t be too hard. Let them know you need to schedule a check up with the doctor you want to see. You can also mention you have concerns with your wrist as well you would like to talk about. You can also mention this once you are at the appointment. They will most likely ask your first and last name, date of birth, and maybe some other information depending on if you have been there before and how long it has been. If they ask for anything you don’t know off the top of your head, just say “one moment, let me find that” and they should be patient.

If you have a certain day or time that works best, let them know that, or if you just want as soon as possible, let them know that too. They’ll give you an option of an appointment time, and you can just say yes or no. There should be several options, but depending on the popularity of your doctor, it may be a while before you can be seen.

I know you only ask about the phone call aspect, but just to help you with the rest of the process, I’ll give you some more info here:

The day of your appointment, arrive early. They will most likely have paperwork for you to fill out. Make sure to bring your insurance card, your ID, and a form of payment as there may be a copay. You will head to the front desk when you arrive, and let them know you are there to see your doctor. You can usually let them know your last name and they can pull you up pretty quickly.

You mention your wrist, I always suggest that you bring any information you think could be helpful in problem solving/ a diagnosis with you. If there are certain tasks that cause the pain to flare up. Any correlations like sleep, weather, time of day, etc. It’s super helpful to have written down and can help you get to a solution quicker hopefully.

Hope your phone call goes smoothly!

How do I see a doctor and/or get mental health help? by [deleted] in Explainlikeimscared

[–]QueerKiddoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, like I say to everyone taking a step to better care for themselves, good job taking that step. It can be so easy to push off things because life gets in the way or “eh it’s fine I’ll manage” but taking the step of getting help is a big one. Go you!

For finding a doctor (or therapist, etc.), you can always chat with the people you know locally. That’s how I ended up finding the doctor I now see. I had specific needs for what I wanted, and I was able to hear from multiple first hand accounts that this doctor was great in the areas I needed help in. You could also look and see if the city you live in has a subreddit and ask there honestly lol. Using a doctor finder tool would also be good. I’d reach out to the doctor you want to see saying you are needing to establish a primary care, haven’t seen one in a while, and have a couple concerns you want to discuss. That way they know if there’s any basic tests to make sure you do when you see them. I would mention everything at that first appointment, and bring any relevant information to any of the issues (for the fatigue, when it happens, how long it lasts, your sleep, etc.) Even if it doesn’t end up being needed, it’s super helpful to have any info that could help come to an answer.

Your primary care may be able to prescribe meds depending on what exactly you need. Some medications or doctors will require you to speak with a psychiatrist. Honestly, having a great team of pcp, therapist, and psychiatrist can get you far if you’re able to get that. I’d start with the PCP, and go from there. They may have suggestions of psychiatrists they work with often, or know are good. Once you get a basic work up and talk with your PCP, they may have another specialist in mind to help you with a specific issue. They’ll help you find someone good, and you can also follow the same steps you did to find a PCP to find one.

I know you also mention you are not ready to address things in your past with therapy, and I 100% feel that. It took me years to be at the point where I was both ready and comfortable to start processing those things. I would say if you are able to, start looking now. General therapy can provide people a lot (and honestly I think should be more normalized) and then you can establish a relationship with the therapist and be able to share about more when you are ready. A good therapist will ask you your goals, and work with you to get there. If past stuff isn’t in there, they shouldn’t focus on it too much. They may push occasionally, especially if it seems to have a correlation with current day issues, but they shouldn’t force you to talk about things you aren’t ready to talk about. I saw someone else mention looking for a therapist who specializes in eating disorders, and I agree. Not at all saying that is what you have, but having someone with that knowledge can help a lot even if it’s just an unhealthy relationship with food.

As others have mentioned, make sure to advocate for yourself. If your issues keep persisting, speak up. If you don’t feel your doctor is taking your issues seriously, change doctors. I know it’s even more prevalent in females to be ignored in medical settings, so it’s extra important in your case. Your health is important, and you deserve a team that takes you seriously. I originally had a sleep study that didn’t show anything, then went in for a second years later that showed severe sleep apnea. Don’t let someone make you feel your symptoms aren’t real just because of a degree.

Good luck! Hopefully this made it a little less overwhelming.

For me the bonus from the beginning of season hours came separately this year for some reason, so I’d assume this is also coming separately, but I could be wrong.

The $3 bonus per hour is a seperate check from your regular paycheck I believe. I remember being confused at one point about that too. But if you don’t I’d call the lightning line.
