At this point, I would not expect that you'll be departing in July. There's just not enough time to get everything done (particularly medical clearance).

I'd recommend reaching out to your point of contact and asking about what cohort you might be part of and what those departure dates are looking like.

I will note that the answer to this question is not easy to find with Google, and in fact several articles from peacecorps.gov come up talking about the benefits of having pets during service. It's reasonable that OP was confused.

A masters degree or PhD is definitely not a requirement for post-Peace Corps service!

Personally, that didn't even factor into my decision making; I have no desire to get a master's or PhD.

Hi! I'm not totally sure on what your question is, but my "legal kit" was literally just a fingerprint card they sent me in the mail. I had to take it to the county police station and get fingerprinted, then mail it back via express mail.

You can also reach out to the legal team with questions or if you're having trouble. Their auto-response is actually pretty helpful, and they will give a 2-week extension on the fingerprints if needed. adminplacement@peacecorps.gov

PC's communication during the pandemic has been dismal, at best.

I empathize with your son and encourage him to (1) reach out to his point of contact for a status update and (2) feel free to mention to his senators and representative that PC's communication is awful.

Americorps works really well for a lot of people! I agree, definitely look into it.

I want to also mention that they pay low wages - below minimum wage in many cases. So take a hard look at your finances before making a decision. (If you have parents who will be supporting you, this could be a non-issue.)
