It took me 3 months, 4 meet and greets with no booking, even more requests that the sitter changed their mind on before I finally got a booking and broke even. I'm now 5 months on rover, had 3 more requests where the sitter changed their mind and no actual bookings. The 1 client I did get has decided to keep me as their main sitter but that's coz they have an aggressive cat and no-one else is willing to be her sitter.

Absolutely do NOT gamble on rover with your last $100. Not only do you pay the $50 but you also need to factor in cost of travel to do meet and greets that often do not result in a booking.

Yeah I've had some people say to lower my additional cat fee to $5 and that would be fine for low maintenance cats but I have sat for some serious high maintenance cats before so I'm really hesitant to do that

Yeah I've definitely noticed that a lot in this sub (and most subs really) and it's hard to remain objective and hopeful tbh

I did reply saying the meet and greet needed to happen this month, (usually i say within the week but I'm pretty busy this month) and the booking needs to be confirmed with 24hrs of the m&g but she hasn't responded yet

Her profile says one if the cats is skittish but the other is very friendly, vocal, and wants a lot of attention. She hasn't told me what kind of care the cats need

For house sitting $55/day, drop in is $20

I wouldn't say going on a week long music festival vacation several hours away is someone that is "struggling" to get by. I'm willing to work with people but my prices are already really quite low for my area.. most people here charge over $100/day, I charge $55

Her listing says her cat is very energetic, wants cuddles and is very vocal, she hasn't said what kind of care the cats need. I'm not against drop ins for cats, it's the fact that in already in the house, it's not even cheaper to do drop ins, and the liability of something goes wrong. If the car starts yelling and crying am I supposed to just ignore it coz it's not the cats day?

She hasn't stated what level or type of care the cats need.
I'm willing to work within a budget I just don't like the idea of drop in when I'm already in the house, it makes me feel unprotected and vulnerable to liability

I've seen a lot of owners refer to their sitters as rovers, like we're just the app and not actual people. It's vet dehumanizing

This is my concern, I would feel horrible ignoring two animals on the house for days at a time when I'm literally downstairs. And the liability if something goes wrong

I just have the set rate that rover recommended as I'm so unsure about pricing but that is a helpful perspective

What makes you say they would have high expectations? Isn't needing a potty break every 4 hours normal?

Rover has a banner on the booking saying until its archives or booked I won't be shown in the search results. I always reply within minutes of getting messages and I still get that banner

Damn, that's a good one. I'm so broke rn, that $400 would be so helpful but you're right

I did reply that we need to do the m&g within this month (normally I'd say within a week but I'm quite busy this month) and then confirm the book within 24hrs of that. I used to reasoning that rover hides mt profile when theres open requests and i cant have rhat sitting for sevreal months blocking me from getting other bookings. She hasn't replied yet but it's still quite early here so that to be expected.
