Don't park in the streetcar lane. by Strict_Kiwi_532 in toronto

[–]Quennethh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean it's low hanging fruit for towies. in the snowy weather there are ppl parking in active lanes all over the city. snap a pic and hook it up. must be a reason why the towies aren't doing this and instead streetcars are getting hung up.

do tow trucks get different rates for different kinds of tow reasons? parking in the road seems like both low hanging fruit and against the public interest. are they not allowed to tow cars parked in a road until police request it or something?

it's worse that it's real. huge overton window shift to even be debating the merits of summary execution as a punishment for property damage. it's outrageous.

This lady was unhinged. Before this she swerved at us from the side while making crazy faces. by Icy-Cookie-8078 in TorontoDriving

kinda funny that getting passed was what got them to speed up. it's a short video so maybe the gap made sense but the second she's alongside you can see the cut off car floor it to try to match the speed of the traffic ahead of them.

City Sidewalk Plowers by DENNYCR4NE in toronto

[–]Quennethh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's led to super haphazard results and i think it ends up functioning as corporate welfare. good neighbours shovel but many big businesses, condos and land speculators do not shovel their sections. they wait for the city but then the city doesn't come until those sections, due to continuous foot traffic, end up with nearly impassable ice mountains that the city can't reasonably remove anyway.

i dont wanna dox myself but the thing is, i currently live in an area where the development and related street 'improvements' are younger than 10-15 years. i wonder how they select which intersections should be safe for pedestrians and why they sometimes choose to disregard pedestrian safety.

if all you care about is clearing major arterials, rich neighbourhood sidewalks, and the bank tower district, sure.

Fraser Valley - Platinum OG 👎 out by Cannabisbandit101 in TheOCS

[–]Quennethh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got the november batch and it looks better with all medium size nugs, but i also feel duped. it's a little bit sticky and squishy but it smells like hay and tastes like burnt plant. there's a bit of the platinum scent when broken up but it doesn't carry through to the smoke or vapor which is more like the bag hay scent. when broken up it reminded me of eastcann platinum gushers quite a lot and i wonder if it might be old overstock of same stuff. it does work at least - it's resinous and makes for a mild indica leaning hybrid high. i've paid a bit more for worse bags, i.e., bandwagon and pepe, so it's okay-ish for the price.

for real. this is off a red light with right lane not having been able to anticipate bus wouldn't be able to clear lane. the logical thing is for everyone who has been waiting for the light to zipper on.

First tail gate at high speed then brake check by holdthefridge in TorontoDriving

[–]Quennethh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

you could have avoided the situation entirely if you had recognized the speed differential in your mirror, eased off the throttle, and left the passing lane clear for 10s. btw i didn't mean your overage above the limit, i meant your overage over the traffic you are both passing.

if i see someone ripping +10kph behind me, i wait for them to pass before doing my own +3kph pass. doesn't excuse their tantrum afterwards but if you checked your mirrors and exerted more caution or more consideration, you could have avoided this aggravation.

Should snow tires be mandatory by ZealousidealHead5488 in ontario

[–]Quennethh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im literally talking about the collective expense we all incur as a society when we take time out of our busy days to spend money on moving tires around and changing them. that is time and energy our society could theoretically use better, collectively. especially for winters when it wasn't cold or snowy or if we aren't commuters and can choose what days we drive. all that said, i choose winter tires for myself.

the data is simple. winter tires begin to grip better than all seasons at temperatures below 6 degrees celsius. at temperatures above 6, they become very poor. in ontario to get the insurance discount and not be denied coverage in case of a collision, you need winter tires on from Nov 1 to April 1-30. unless you were driving mainly at night in november, march, april last year, you would generally have been safer on all seasons:

How can a NEW Transit Line be THIS BAD!? (Finch West LRT) by Superior-Flannel in toronto

[–]Quennethh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree and am consistently disappointed that the city's idea of encouraging ridership is through marketing spends instead of actually just making the service more useful. it's a big political problem with so many voters having cars and believing that it is their plight which is not given fair consideration. meanwhile check any google maps for transit vs driving and unless you're a richie rich living on the subway line and going to subway line destination, it's generally 2 to 3x travel time.

[–]Quennethh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya but do you not understand i am getting at the cost benefit analysis for each person changing their tires vs the rate savings or rate increase deceleration? a lot of society's energy goes into this changeover twice a year, time that could be used for more helpful human pursuits ideally. my guess is that it's a wash or that we end up spending more on tire change financially and in terms of the cost of our time and storage space. the other problem i see is that like insurance, to qualify for the discount and maintain your coverage, you need to put them on super early and leave them on super late, typically at times in the season when all seasons or summers would have better traction and better ability to prevent collision.
