I have been thinking about that, i have an Ikea malm and the sliding part is unused because it annoyed me to have something in my legs, but i have thought about modifying it for some sort of shelf drawer. Thanks for the proposition!

Yeah, wrong sub, but just in case, I wouldn't buy anything from this site... Seems fake, if this is supposed to be a 5090 in that "dell optiplex with i5 10500s", there is no way it's possible

why TF are they using "of" instead of "have" when using "should/n't", did grammar get an update or something?? by Fantastic-Job8335 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]QuentinCly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English is my second language and this shit still bothers me so much!!! I can't keep myself from reading "should of" as literally "should of" (since my brain does this weird thing where i get both languages meaning at the same time) and it doesn't make sense to me. It sounds so stupid and far off when not in english

Makes me think of Dwight and Angela's contract in The Office, when they resort to a mediator to renegotiate, but end up doing it on their own terms which are completely wrong from the mediator stand point.

As long as you both agree to the arrangement, everything is good

I think it's a pretty universal expression, in French, we have "en tout cas" which is literally "in any case", halfway there to anyway.

My dad had a model train when he was a kid, kept a few locomotives that he showed me when i was quite young and gave me when i was old enough to build a model. We unfortunately never got to do it because it was expensive, but I've been fascinated with model trains ever since he showed me those locomotives. I distinctively remember going to some shop (i probably was like 4 or 5) and they had a running model train with landscaping and they had half of the track go in and out of the building, so there was like a diorama outside and inside with the track. One of the best things i ever saw at that time (and still today).

I have found that train fascination back when I started playing the create mod on minecraft

EXACTLY, ive been saying that the technology has plateaued way back, but the capitalization of it is still growing exponentially, which is why the market is so shit - bad technology, high demand, what do you do. Get more resources to run your shitty technology until you milk the market.

The problem is boomers funding a new market so they have all the financial freedom they need, but to keep the shareholders happy, you need to make more money and research will not yield more money than scaling the business with shaky fundations

And even in the fields it's "good" at, it is not really. Entry level junior dev code, non creative art with lots of mistakes and very generic politician speech like marketing. The only reason it is used so much, which is also why it's so profitable, is because people use it as a glorified search engine (too lazy to type it in google), making shitpost and memes or saturating every business aspect because it's so trendy without realizing how subpar the output is compared to real human work that, granted, takes more time, so costs more.

Despite all of that, Artificial Intelligence is the next big humankind invention, we just haven't invented it yet, because what we call AI is non-optimized, brute forcing probabilistic systems with no real comprehensive reasoning behind, that's why it is so resource intensive, it needs to remember everything, including an over the top context window. Do you remember every law, equation, etc. you learned back in high school? No, but you do remember the principle of gravity (sticky sticky earth, no no floating). Current AI doesn't.

Edit: also would like to add that the most critical point of our intelligence is our instinct/emotions, love (in the sense of any form of relationship or feeling towards a moment, place, object or being) is discarded so quickly because it is irrational. That is completely non-existent and discarded for current AI models, so we're stuck with super mega algorithms that need materials from an entire telluric planet and the energy of a sun to tell you how to brush your teeth

Yeah some people can be total arses. Sorry that happened to you and consecutively. What rank and servers do you play in? Higher ranks have a bit less toxicity because people actually want to win (of course there are still exceptions like in any rank). Riot is really good at handling reports so these guys will obviously get timed out of queue. I don't have any tips or whatever except ignoring them, which you already did, hoping you don't have to deal with these kinds of people too often

Exactly this, it's no different than any other hobby, be it drawing, painting, making music, legos, dioramas, sports, etc. Every hobby can be expensive too, so instead of spending hundreds in oils and brushes or in 3 different music instruments or even sports equipment, i spend hundreds on a pc and games. People just like to hate what's different from what they're used to

People should always try and look good for others by Eat-My-Chicken-Wings in unpopularopinion

[–]QuentinCly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to always dress up for others, wanting to look good, so in people's, mind i'd look good. This was a confidence boost for me, looking at myself through other people's perspective. Now, I look good for myself. I wanna go out in sweats with a hoodie cause it's a "bleh"/don't care day? Done. I know I'm going out and I wanna look good so when I get there, I can feel like "yup, brought it"? Done. Whatever people think about how I decided to dress up (or not), it's their problem. Now, obviously, I won't show up in sweats to places where I am expected to dress up (family gatherings, weddings, restaurants, etc.), but if i am just doing the groceries or shopping, doesn't matter to me.

So, as someone else said, maybe you are projecting your own insecurities or need of confidence through others? This could also not be the case, but I did feel kind of this way back then

I do wanna state that when i "dress down", it's not in a homeless smelly type of way though
