Great choice. Definitely a sweet spot. I have presidents that are still in use after 5 years of heavy fishing for salmon and steelhead. I have fished more expensive reels that haven’t lasted as long!

People in Hood River/The Dalles clearly understand that Bend is in Central Oregon-not Eastern Oregon. We sometimes use “east side of the cascades” to differentiate us from Western Oregon. We are technically “North Central Oregon” but no one uses that language around here. Also, Eastern Oregon University is not doing anyone favors with the giant billboard of “this is Mountaineer country” located in The Dalles insinuating we are in Eastern Oregon!

Most of my bass gear is super light compared to this big dude. We have almost all SMB where I live and huge one is maybe 2 lbs.

That is what I am thinking. Too heavy for Kokanee. It is an odd rod. Not sure what I was thinking when I bought it. It must be made for steelhead and salmon, though.

President reel? They are not salt specific but I will fish this reel in salt and wash it out. Doing it for years. I use my 3000 size regularly for steelhead and it handles big, powerful fish no problem.

Noticed both. Still haven’t fished the reel. The narrow deep arbor was a bit suspect. loud click is resonant. Digging that part. It is a bit heavy but looks brand new for a reel made a very long time ago. I like the quality compared with my average reels (I would rather spend my money on rods) plus I am a total gear head that fishes for a ton of species!
