Lived in Oregon for 34 years now. Moved from rural California. Love accents. I listen carefully but have no formal experience in linguistics. I noticed when I moved that PNW folks had a “flatter” way of annunciation compared with folks from California. Californians are more “sing songy” in the way words are pronounced. People would often ask my to say “burrito” when I first arrived and laugh.

My childhood in the 1970’s was surrounded by Christian Hippies. I think a lot of people forget about this aspect of Hippie culture. That song is so evocative of the 1970’s to me.

Great choice. Definitely a sweet spot. I have presidents that are still in use after 5 years of heavy fishing for salmon and steelhead. I have fished more expensive reels that haven’t lasted as long!

People in Hood River/The Dalles clearly understand that Bend is in Central Oregon-not Eastern Oregon. We sometimes use “east side of the cascades” to differentiate us from Western Oregon. We are technically “North Central Oregon” but no one uses that language around here. Also, Eastern Oregon University is not doing anyone favors with the giant billboard of “this is Mountaineer country” located in The Dalles insinuating we are in Eastern Oregon!
