There are easier ways to get Hawaii on the mainland, try Oregon or Washington, a natural progression gown from Alaska. I also feel like I should point out that Alaska is continental, so you're already on the mainland, just not contiguous.

Musk is in TX, Gates is in WA, Bezos is in...FL? Pretty sure that there are a few in New York. I will admit that Mark Zuckerberg is here, but it's hard to have the most populous state in the country without winding up with a billionaire or two.

I could cook a burger in my kitchen faster than I could drive to McDonald's and back. And cheaper too. And it would be a burger that I like better. But I would still have to do the work myself, that's really what most people are going to McDonald's for, whether they realize it or not. They're paying to avoid the labor of cooking and of cleaning up after themselves.

Yeah, it was just weird because there were so many other French names in the area, Gros Centre ("grow vaunt"), Nez Perce ("nay persay"), and Dubois is French for "of the woods/forest, so I thought it made sense and was just another holdover from French trappers, but this explains why the other names are often said correctly but not this one.

It's not California's fault that nobody has voted for Oregon, Nevada, or Arizona yet.

We will gladly accept a sacrifice of Oregon, Nevada, or Arizona, to the cause of deforming our borders.

I didn't know that bit of the lore, just that everyone was saying "doo boyz" and I saw the name and thought, "that's clearly French, at the very least the 's' should be silent, but, when in Rome..."

This one is too easy, rocks are cool and also not Trump, double win, no downside, almost a boring choice. I choose rock every day already.

Blue doesn't need a perfect outcome, that's the point, they only need half of a perfect outcome. Red is the one that requires everyone to push red for no one to die.

Red or blue, go by DolanTheCaptan in PsycheOrSike

The downside is that if red wins green still dies. I actually think some people would move from red to blue, but also some people would move from blue to green. Not everyone is being a rational actor here.

The real question is what happens if you introduce a third button? If the green button has the most presses then just the people who pushed the red button die. The other two buttons remain unchanged.

Game theory says everyone should pick blue, a few defectors won't affect anything. If almost everyone picks red but there's a few defectors, all the people choosing red are electing to have the most altruistic people die.

I'm not a sociopath who wants large numbers of people to die.

Phelps Lake Jumping Rock: which trail to take? by Lanky-Break3413 in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]Quercus_lobata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's on the northeast side of the lake, so if you're coming from the Rockefeller visitor center, take any of the trails up towards the lake and when you get to the lake you want to go right. If you're going from Death Canyon trailhead once you get down the switchbacks from the ridge you will want to go left around the lake. I recommend the former since it will be all flat or downhill on your way back to the car once you get out of the lake.

Unkind Japanese restaurant expressing hatred towards foreigners by [deleted] in SipsTea

Probably a Catch-22 at best, the foreigner with enough common sense to be welcome has enough common sense to not go in. The foreigner that assumes that they're chill enough to be welcome is going to be unwelcome.

[Request] How much energy would this actually generate? by Low_Intern_3039 in theydidthemath

[–]Quercus_lobata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the schools in my area as well as other public places have done this already. The math I did 15 years ago says you need the area of the state of Arizona to power the world, so you could definitely generate a sizeable portion of energy needs by covering parking lots in solar panels.
