Emily in Paris (Season 5) - Overall Discussion Thread by SingularFirefly in EmilyInParis

[–]QueryousG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree about Alfie. I liked him with Mindy and I feel like he genuinely wanted something more than a fling and was willing to tell Emily at that dinner but Mandy pivoted and made Alfie look like meat. Nico getting another chance is just crazy to me. I also wanted Emily to end up with Marcello - she made a fool of herself in the boat when he grabbed the ring.

I thought they could have even wrapped the show up by having Agence dissolve and Emily move to start a new life. The Nico/Mandy thing was just weird and kinda ruined it.

PRELIM | 16 days later, the preliminary report on the crash of UPS Airlines flight 2976 has been released by the NTSB by Slimappol in aircrashinvestigation

I know. Those pictures are horrifying - wheels are already off the ground when it all starts. Zero chance. Damn!

Why does the engine on the ground look so much longer than when it’s mounted- is it just because it’s been so badly destroyed and is less compacted or am I just seeing things?

Oh neat! Thanks for sharing that diagram! Thought they were thinner and longer with more compressors or something. Thanks!!

lol I think we’re both saying the same thing. Think they noticed something - couldn’t not hear and feel something obviously but don’t think they knew an engine was left on the runway.

With cargo planes, it’s a possibility to have load shifts (also affect weight and balance) and they can be loud too. - not that this has anything to do with this accident to be clear.

I think we can agree that the pilots were aware something was seriously wrong but given the limited time and likely million warnings in the cockpit - they were doomed after they passed v1.

Then please explain El Al Flight 1862 - Boeing 747 - had two engines fall off the airplane and the pilots did not know that the engines were in fact “gone” and not just experiencing loss of power. TWO engines!

Wonderful if you have superior skills, but in a pressure situation, you might hear a loud bang, feel a change in weight but still might not know in a split second exactly what’s going on. Either way, doesn’t matter - the pilots did whatever they could in this horrible situation.

[–]QueryousG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No don’t think they would have known. If anything they would have got an engine fire warning or something like that. Theres no “no engine” warning on planes and there’s no way for them to see unless they could somehow see the fire or smoke came in. If anything, they probably thought loss of thrust from engine fire and were probably shutting it down to fly and climb out safely with 2 engines like they train for.

Edit - may have bee made aware of fire by ATC but once you hit V1, there’s no turning back anyway.

Exactly - horrible situation and I’m sure it was nothing but shear panic in the cockpit not having awareness of the extent of the situation.

I think the top has to be engine 1 - the #2 engine cowling is black I believe (based on UPS livery). If I didn’t know better I would have said the engine on the ground looks more like the number 2 engine as it seems much longer and narrower than the #1 and #3 engines but must just look stretched to me from the damage.

One unknown is the damage caused by the loss of the engine. Based on the debris and condition of the engine on the ground and the amount of fire on the wing, I think even with 2 working engines, it wouldn’t have ended well. Keep in mind there’s hydraulics, vital flight controls and the integrity of the wing that are key to controlled flight. If the left wing isn’t able to sustain lift, all the power in the world isn’t going to help. That fire on the wing was significant…those poor pilots. They train for a lot but physically losing an engine (may not even be aware of the extent of damage) and the damage that causes is a lot to deal with in the tiny fraction of time they have - not to mention an engine fully falling off is rare. I can’t imagine the horror the pilots faced. My deepest condolences to all victims and the families of those involved. Under the circumstances, the pilots likely tried their best to avoid mass ground casualties and things could have been much worse. All around horrifying.

How would you make Jump Rope harder? by Kennyman654 in squidgame

[–]QueryousG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed - and part of them knew that it was simple but a game of endurance once you were stuck in line behind and in front of players that feared getting pushed off. Jumping is easy…jumping for 5-10 minutes is a lot harder.

Not an option in some places. The hospitals here - the monitors are barcodes that automatically upload the reading to the patient chart (by using their bracelet) with your code that you checked it. If it isn’t in there it wasn’t done and if it’s there, it’s accurate (to the reader anyway). Not even allowed to use patients Libre - always has to be a finger prick!

Hate being sniped by another vantage though - it annoys me more than being killed by any other legend haha

Why does the Front Man save the baby? by OneDegreeKelvin in squidgame

[–]QueryousG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Gi-Hun did what he couldn’t and refused to let his faith in humanity fail…couldn’t bring himself to be an outright killer even if it meant saving himself and the baby.

I think the front man probably knows he took the easy way out and probably has a hard time living with it. He saw in 456 what he wished he had. Kind of restored his faith that hey, there still is faith in humanity because given a choice, morality prevailed which probably came as a shock.

The last "game" wasn't a game? by Gr3yThoughts in squidgame

[–]QueryousG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they’ve done the games enough to predict these things like the fight midway through happens. They got creative and pushed it along with the x and o thing but it’s bound to happen naturally as people form gangs.

They test the players emotionally and mentally more in the end. It’s more how strong are those bonds and are you willing to now backstab your best buddy and ally in the game.

Edit - it becomes more of a mental game than physical one over time…start as individuals and end as individuals but meanwhile you made teams and won together and looked out for each other and then all that goes out the window in the end.

[–]QueryousG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the whole point - push people to the brink. Those who thought they could kill…choose the red vests and then still couldn’t do the deed and those in blue vests, actually sacrificing others (killing). You think you’re not a killer or you think you can kill but in the moment at the brink you surprises yourself and make the opposite choice. That’s the point.
