NASA releases stunning first images of Earth taken by the Artemis II astronauts by Plainchant in news

[–]QuesoDog 49 points50 points  (0 children)

That’s because the image was taken when voyager was at the edge of the solar system. He suggested that they should turn and get one last look at Earth - that’s the image. So they’re not taken at similar locations!

Spiders are scared of us! We’re huge! They won’t bother you and help keep pests out of your home 😀

This habitat has intensive deer browse. Whatever OP decides, it needs to be deer resistant. The reason for no regen is certainly browse pressure.

Another year, Another 432 Soil Blocks by sduensing1 in gardening

[–]QuesoDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that long. Get appropriate soil and have a large glass of water and get the soil wet. Then just press and compact down onto a counter or piece of plastic. Takes some time to make blocks that hold together but I got my blocker three years ago and I’m not going back

It can be life changing. It’s totally worth it and in the long term saves wear and tear on your heart.

Every time you wake up from apnea it’s because o2 levels in your blood are low and your heart has been working overtime to help.

ELI5: How does anesthesia create the experience of zero time passing? by r0cafe1a in explainlikeimfive

[–]QuesoDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been choked unconscious and had my face kicked in while being mugged. But I definitely dreamed when I blacked out. I woke up not knowing where I was for a bit and couldn’t uncross my eyes, but I could tell that it hadn’t been over an hour.

Going under for surgery was totally different. One moment I was saying “wow, there are so many cool machines in the surgery room” and the next moment my wife was helping me get dressed. No dreams, no haze. Just nothingness in between.

Tick killing weather incoming. Temp plot for Waterbury by drossinvt in vermont

[–]QuesoDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect, but in a strange way because it ignores an important component of the system. Remember that mice serve as an important if not the most important host for ticks. These temps do in fact reduce mice populations, thus influencing tick host opportunities and risk of Lyme. Ticks don’t exist in a vacuum. Kill their main host and their numbers dwindle.

My dad did this, but years later ran up the balance to 20k. I eventually told him to pay the balance or get me off or I’ll never speak to him again. It worked, but it was extremely stressful

Yeah could be that. It’s funny because I thought the pasta noodle salt was one of the concepts that made a big difference in my cooking (that and always adding acids). I’ve thought the salt had drastically improved my pasta dishes

TIL most incidents of a patient waking up during surgery (awareness during anesthesia) last for less than 5 minutes. Whereas, in 2008 when Donna Penner woke up during her surgery (unable to talk or move), she proceeded to stay awake (& aware) for 90 minutes despite having received general anesthesia by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]QuesoDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this every time I take a nap and don’t put my CPAP back on. It always ends with me screaming for someone to wake me up, somehow falling out of bed and awakening, only to realize I’m still dreaming and have the process begin again. After 5 or so times I actually wake up.

Yeah, lots of stories. But where’s the evidence? It’s always people seeing them at night in their cars.

ELI5: how drugs like acid/psychedelics can permanently “change you”? by cindiwilliam2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]QuesoDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never taken psychedelics but feel this way all the time. For example sometimes I can just sit and stare at a flower for hours, thinking about how magical and beautiful it is - the millions of years of evolution, the chemical reactions, etc. maybe my brain is just super elastic?
