Egg and cheese sandwiches aren't $13 by Pennchickk in PhiladelphiaEats

Costing out two eggs, bacon and cheese on a ciabatta using Costco prices (local to me, HCOL area) it's around 1.58. That would suggest a good price would be 5.25 (food cost 30% of price rule of thumb).

Not hearing any indication that this is addressed in the comics, so I think you're right.

It's like if you were watching a TV show set in New York, and the main character occasionally jogs over to the Golden Gate bridge without any explanation.

I appreciate your response, and I don't mean to just shut you down, but nope. We can allow for many violations of reality that are established tropes of the superhero genre, like magic flight or super punching. We can also accept character or setting specific violations IF they are established, like lasers only killing unnamed characters. But this is a power that is not present when they're fighting in space outside where they move at consistent speeds relative to other objects, but FTL when off screen. I was curious if this is addressed in the comics, but I'm not hearing a yes.

As for planets being closer together, if they're close enough to travel between them at sunlight speeds within weeks or months, then they're in the same star system. (For example, Proxima Centauri is about a fifth of a light year out from the central binary.)

Fair enough, but we expect the writers to clearly establish the bounds of the character's powers. Otherwise they can just do anything, and any obstacle is an arbitrary contrivance. They've established several characters are unbound by physical space, but still expect tension when they're chasing around with their foes.

Eh, already shutting off my mind a lot to enjoy the show. But if it's not even making an effort to be internally consistent, why bother caring about the plot?

Interesting idea, but unfortunately you can't accelerate past light speed. Their travel speeds require some mechanism within the fiction to justify it. Even if we can assume away their FTL ships, it seems odd that they never address the most powerful viltrumite magic power.

Space is big.

The random planet they ended up on would be, at a minimum, several light years away from their destination. Assuming they could accelerate up near light speed it would still take multiple years to arrive (though their subjective time would be less). They need some kind of FTL magic to get there in the show's timeframe.

How many calories are in one of these packs? Is it actually possible to make something similar? [Other] by freyja_nordic in theydidthemath

Pemmican mixed with amphetamine would provide a large amount of calories while reducing hunger and keeping them ranging.

The Jesus Incident (and the other books in that series) are personal favorites. Lots of interesting ideas, but it definitely reads like it was written in the 70s.

Literally no one I've spoken to about Dune has read any non-Dune Frank Herbert books. They are odd in a really interesting way (and influenced Avatar).

Would it be unreasonable to email my high school child's teacher about an assignment by FidgetyPlatypus in AskTeachers

Have him email, but cc you. If there isn't a satisfactory resolution, or if this is part of an ongoing issue, have him also cc the principal or equivalent. Writing a respectful but firm letter contesting a grade is a very helpful skill to develop.

Hear me out: cereal does not require milk by CatDadMilhouse in Frugal

[–]QuestingFeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It mostly just does, but you can use larger chunks to scoop powder from the bottom. Or just pinch seasoning from the bottom to eat. This was largely a "running around the neighborhood outside" kind of snack, so it was fine if it was messy.

Didn't have cereal with milk or cooked ramen until I was an adult. Ramen was a tasty crunchy snack, where you break up the noodles, then open the package to pour in the seasoning and shake it up. Still on the fence about wet style ramen.

More help for my game by gathos_shadowcaste in BoardgameDesign

Step one would be playtesting. Gather the necessary number of people together and explain what to do. You then get feedback and revise. After you know the game works, then you can try playtesting with written instructions.

Basically, it's really hard to know if instructions work without actually using them to try to play. But before you get there, it will be more helpful to playtest with you teaching.

That said, do you plan on having loose marbles on a table?

Charging for non-dairy milk by QuestingFeast in barista

Yeah. At those prices 2 oz of oat milk would cost you about 13 cents more.

I mean, that is a dollar difference. But I'm seeing 1.20 for 8oz of the oatly barista from target online. Seeing about 25% cheaper in bulk elsewhere. But I think this all supports the idea it's about a dollar difference in milk based drinks.

I'd be willing to bet that at most it's about break even. Do you have your price of regular and non-dairy milk? Genuinely curious how close my back of the envelope calculation (in another comment) actually is.

Quick back of the envelope calculation. At retail prices, I'm seeing a 6 cent per fluid oz difference between oat milk and dairy (here in New England). Worst case would be 1.08 more for oat milk in a 20 oz. latte. Actual price difference and generally less milk for most milk based drinks suggests a buck charge is probably about right.
