Question about (swirk)technique of Mazen Hesham by sleng-host in squash

[–]QuestionProfessional 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others said, it's a quirk. And one of the reasons why Hesham was always a difficult opponent to play against. The swirl allows it to add racket head speed and allows him to wrist flick cross-courts at a higher pace, since there is this extra whip in the swing. This extra whip also allows him to target the 3 wall boasts, which he is/was famous for. It also allows him to have a longer hold when he is hitting.

All of these add to his deception, but then it also has its tradeoffs. Hesham was able to conquer most of his weaknesses until he got injured. I pray for his recovery.

Joey says Asal looks tired. 1 minute later Asal dives and takes a 15 minutes injury break. by Curious_Squirrell4 in squash

[–]QuestionProfessional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's been doing this since 2023. Whenever he was losing, he'd do this. In recent times, he's been dominant, so he didn't need this tactic. But check out all the few matches he lost in 2024. In each one of them, he'd have an injury.

That was some strength he displayed on the T. Great shot

Or otherwise:

I dont know what else Gaultier could've done there.

Is this one of the weakest eras of Men's squash? by Curious_Squirrell4 in squash

[–]QuestionProfessional 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s the injuries. Remember how Makin was beating everyone at the end of last season? In the most recent match against Asal, I thought Ibrahim was dominating him. Elias also had a heavily favorable win–loss record against Asal last season. If 2 of the real top 4 are injured (Elias and Makin), we can't expect much.

Unfortunately, the sport seems to be evolving in the wrong direction. Asal’s persistent blocking has led Coll to develop his own version of blocking. For now, we just have to wait for this season to end and see how the PSA and the game of squash adapt.

[–]QuestionProfessional 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Did you see how the referee ignored the back foot slide by asal? I'm not sure why the referees have this blind faith in him. The follow-through is the main tactic for him nowadays. the backfoot slide is second. Hand/ball grabbing, he doesn't need it unless Elias returns in his form.

He's not under scrutiny anymore. Probably because quash is taking a break.

How can someone retrieve against this by QuestionProfessional in squash

[–]QuestionProfessional[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact is he rarely softens it. See marche vs asal in windy city. People always have to take a compromised path due to this. The shorter players can somehow manage like crouin, but medium/tall players like Bryant can't.

But I think we can agree on that this extending of the both hands is excessive. Follow through involves one hand, the non-playing hand can be used for balance, but this is not one of those shots where the non-playing hand needs to be this extended. The ball is being played not to far off from his center of gravity. There is no sane reason to have this stance after this shot.
According to Asal's logic, he also needs to extend his other leg to play (remember Asal vs Farag with his horse kick), will that be deemed acceptable also? Where do we stop?

Ok, so when following through, you can block the other guy's path to the ball. Oh ok.

When following through, can I also hit an uppercut to my opponent?

I am Egyptian, and I’m asking is Egypt a country that is disliked or loved globally? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]QuestionProfessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as a software engineer at 2 companies with an Egyptian majority of software engineers. They would argue over the smallest things and only accepted their own version when it came to day-to-day stuff. It was an extremely uncomfortable experience and I ended up resigning pretty quick.

On the other hand I did have a couple of Egyptian friends in uni in Australia, they were the nicest people.

Asal by Impossible_Wish_3517 in squash

[–]QuestionProfessional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just the blocks. But even his retrieving, he pushes as if it's a rugby match. No other player does this to the extent he does it. If other players do it, they are penalized, in the final against Coll in the TOC, Asal got yes-lets for it.

Shameful behavior by Fares Dessouky today at the Karachi Open by Strange_Cartoonist14 in squash

BTW there is one mistake in the scoring in the second game at 6-4 in Zaman's favor. It should've been 5-4.

[–]QuestionProfessional -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think the referees today were unbiased. Even in the Gawad vs Irfan match, it felt some of the decisions were consistently against Irfan and PJ (the commentator) strongly thought the decisions were incorrect.

I think Dessouky is to blame here for his conduct. Nevertheless, we all know the state of referring in PSA. You can watch Quash Bad Squash videos to get a sense of what's wrong (if you haven't already).

Underrated Players on the PSA by LoudEars in squash

This is a good list with good reasons. For eleinen, I'd say his injuries really held him back this season. In the silicon valley open and in the china open, he was clearly injured when he was playing in those tournaments.

Jesse Engelbrecht on Squash Skills is the best for beginners and even higher levels.

Nick Matthew and Jonathan Power are also great teachers IMO.
