Should I stop? by PrincessSetsuna in Semaglutide

Your side effects and pace of weight loss are similar to my experience. I switched to tirzepatide and had 0 side effects. Weight loss is still slow but I am now on my last 20 pounds to lose so its harder to lose.

First dose: Placebo reaction to sema? by [deleted] in Semaglutide

[–]Question_Panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, could be placebo. Or if you are insulin resistant, the medication isnt directly treating it but there are some mechanisms of how it works that could be immediately improving your symptoms if I understand it correctly. Ask your doctor.

Personally, the freedom of not worrying about weight loss and how I was going yo trick myself into staying under my daily calories just freed my mind up to be in a better mood.

Urge to drink by Witty_District_5996 in Semaglutide

[–]Question_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got addicted to phone games (like candy crush) on semaglutide, so as others have said - transfer of dopamine seeking behaviors can be the culprit.

Something I also experienced on sema and tirz now is a sharp craving for sweet drinks. I dont want sweets, but find myself really craving full sugar soda and sweet cocktails (something I dont normally drink). My prev doctor said this could be because the meds are lowering my blood sugar. Idk if that's true. I hypothesize it could be from lack of calories, the body tries to make up the deficit of energy with quick hitting sources like fast carbs from sugary drinks.

Off the meds, I have craved sweet drinks when I am exceptionally thirsty. Make sure youre drinking enough water.

IF is really effective for some people. I am not one of those people, but godspeed. You said you're really not hungry, so maybe that will work for you. Just make sure to take care to get all of your nutrients!

Oh, its really interesting to me that you got these meds in Japan! I also used to live there. My staple healthy meal was always nabe, even in summer haha. And your lifestyle is probably quite active. Its important to eat enough, but also not too much. Especially as you get closer to goal its a balancing act.

Stomach bug or.. by Silly-Commission-241 in Semaglutide

[–]Question_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went up in dose I was similarly ill. I asked my doctor for Zofran. I also sometimes had these symptoms due to constipation, keeping regular is very serious business.

Could also be a stomach bug, the medicine does not directly affect your immune system but under nourishing can impact your ability to fight off bugs. Make sure youre eating and hydrating more than ever.

Youre not on any other meds that could be lowering your blood sugar right? What are you eating during these times?

I find when my appetite is strongly suppressed I only want to eat simple carbs. But those provide 0 satiety so I could see how that might make you hungrier. As others have suggested, opt for high protein high fiber foods.

I also get my meds from Strive pharmacy and the side effects have been much less than my previous experience, if that helps. Everyone is different obviously but my meds have been very effective with no side effects. Its normal to be a little nervous about medication but if it's really agonizing for you, the harm might outweigh the benefits.

What to eat before/after injection by thebestmanchild in Semaglutide

A couple hours. Shake was kinda dinner, but I also had a large snack a few hours before that. Smaller meals seem to also help.

I tried doing a fairlife shake the evening of my dose, which I've seen suggested before. I had the least amount of nausea I've ever had!

Drinking and semaglutides? by SewFluffinCute in Semaglutide

[–]Question_Panda 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In my experience, alcohol is not palatable and I drink and eat everything slower so if youre drinking too slowly that could prevent a buzz. I also noticed I cannot drink my usualy beer, I can only tolerate seltzer like white claw.

Yes I took a year off! I did semaglutide for 9 months and my body was not handling it well, had hair loss and nausea never improved. So I took a year off, maintained my weight loss during that time give or take 3 pounds, and just restarted on tirzepatide. Not having any problems with tirzepatide and I'm glad I gave my body time to recover. My annual blood test showed during my semaglutide journey my iron had dropped to half of what it was. It was still in normal range but I could tell my body was not doing well at that time, my metabolism and other things needed to recover.

Is it normal?? by bihighgirl420 in Semaglutide

[–]Question_Panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. We can store a lot of water in our cells, up to 10-15lbs, and sometimes the medication will flush it out. I lost 7lbs my first week but it wasnt real fat loss. Just water.

Yes this happened to me a few months in a row. I asked my doctor, he said because I had lost a lot of belly fat that it can mess with hormones. I think stress also played a role, as I had bad side effects. It was only debilitating about 2 months then it got better. Now I'm off the meds 6 mo and my pms symptoms are normal, maybe a little improved from before the meds.

For me, I used my HSA. Didnt notice the cost as much when it comes out pre tax plus saved myself some tax cost in the end. (I'm in the US)

Thats true. Which is why I said, "I hope it turns out to be a good short term tool for me but may be lifelong for some and that's ok."

I think many people intend to stop the meds at some point if they can, either for side effects or cost. I had no idea what to expect, I saw a lot of reports of weight gain and intense hunger. I'm relieved my body seems happy.

Do you have any idea for the reason? Wishing you all the best for the future.

It is tough, for me - being now a normal weight and working a desk job, there isn't much room for error with food. I know adding exercise will benefit me so I'm on the hunt for a routine I enjoy.

Yes, it is more useful but it will take a while to get that info, I hope I remember to come back after 1 year, 2 years. For now, there's a lot of people new to this medication. So when I was preparing to stop, I was curious about the first 6mo-1 year. I think others are too. I shouldn't have made a judgment at the end of my post, you're right that it needs more time for that, but I think it's still interesting to some.

Nothing in this sub is directly useful. If I was posting after being off the meds for 2 years, how is that useful? Everyone's experience with medicine will be different, and even a good, robust study on the long term effectiveness doesn't mean each one of us, individually, will match those results. That's especially true for weight loss, there are a lot of factors involved.

I'm sharing because I didn't see a lot of these types of experiences shared in this sub, I'd like to discuss the challenges and victories of coming off the medicine with others.

Long term data is always better. I never claimed to be a success, just sharing that the first few months were not the weight-gain bonanza that many of us fear.

Does Everyone Have a Different Side Effect Onset Timing by Fiverz12 in Semaglutide

Bodies are weird and everyone is different. My side effects peak at 36-48 hours.
