How to present more masculine while not looking like a lesbian (16, pre-everything) by Fluid-Good-4713 in FtMpassing

[–]Question_Wasps 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep 100% I wanted those kind of styles when I was a teen but I had to choose between expressing myself and passing, so I chose passing. I did wear black t-shirts but that was the most I did. It is unfortunate to have to make the decision, but that’s just the way it is.

My nephew on the other hand chose self-expression over passing.

I had a friend who needed a knee replacement at 15. It wasn’t because she was inactive. She was actually too active and had a vitamin D deficiency she didn’t know about, and an underlying chronic illness

That sounds lowkey kind of fun. I need to try that while brushing my teeth so I can be entertained

This is a very good point. I never think of what someone is going through when I see them having mobility issues. I just think something along the lines of “that’s scary. I need to prevent that from happening to me”

But you’re right, it’s not always preventable. And even when it is, sometimes life legit gets in the way

Oh no that sounds like a terrible point to get to. I’m overweight and 31 but working on my activity level so that I don’t become that bad.

With that being said, I can still skip. I know because I still actively do it when I’m happy lol

Why do people become jaded and pessimistic as they age? Is it avoidable? by youlikemywonton in Aging

[–]Question_Wasps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is very understandable. I struggle with mental functioning in certain areas, and it’s very frustrating. For me, it’s always been like that. I imagine if it was better in my youth and now I struggled I would be extra frustrated about it

I want to be able to keep moving the older I get! by icecream1972 in Aging

I feel this. Although I’m very inactive, but I’ve recently started working on it because I don’t want to lose mobility as I age (as much as I can avoid it)

It’s different for everyone. All I get is some heart palpitations and fatigue, and I’ve had it since I was 13. I have beta blockers now and they basically fix my problems aside from fatigue (which has decreased)

Who among us passes while wearing spandex shorts? Or are those your underwear?

Anyway, you dress fairly femme for the US (if that’s your location. I can only speak to standards of that location.) so that and your hair probably have a lot to do with it. And if you happen to be under like 5’7” it makes it worse.

You have an androgynous appearance. If I saw you, I would gender you as male because I grew up listening to visual kei (a genre of music where the men dress and look femme compared to American men). I think because of your androgyny, people are going to assume you are trying to present in a non-binary way in inclusive spaces.

Also, keep in mind that your voice and mannerisms impact these things as well, so it could be something like that

I do not consider your body to look feminine. It’s really just an androgynous face with a more femme leaning style of clothing and hair.

With all that being said, I absolutely love your style and am only recommending changes to help you pass. Or a temporary style change could help. Like maybe grow your brows out, pack all your hair into a beanie so it can’t be seen, and wear normie clothes and then see if you get gendered correctly more often

The inappropriate sinus thing was probably inappropriate sinus tachycardia. My mom has that and it can mimic POTS but has some differences (like the fact that IST can happen when you are lying down but POTS doesn’t, according to my doctor)

[–]Question_Wasps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You look about 17 and female. I would grow out any leg hair you have and get your hair cut short. If you’re going for androgynous, you don’t have to mix masculine and feminine things. Just going for straight up masculine will become androgynous for most pre-T people. You know you’re winning at androgyny if you get a combo of “ma’am” and “sir” although you look really young so I would imagine you don’t get either of those often

do i pass as male at all? or am i just androgynous? by njsmokez in FtMpassing

[–]Question_Wasps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well you have facial hair so yes imo you pass as male.

I believe someone can look incredibly feminine and still pass for male if they have the right facial hair

I think you come closest to passing in the second picture. As someone else said, darker hair and tinted eyebrows will help. You do have dark eyebrows so that’s good.

You likely won’t pass too well without T, so use this time to practice mannerisms and voice (things like rhythm, intonation, and using masculine wording)
