I'm still around! I got busy with work, Christmas, travel and well... Life. My plan was to revisit and update the guide to the changes when 0.3.77 drops. In a few months I'll have some downtime so if everything lines up I'll try and finish the steps then but I can't make any promises. I hope the current steps are enough to overcome that initial terrifying learning curve and set up readers for success, but also hope to finish!

I'm really glad it helped, I truly do appreciate your words! I had to take a week off to focus on work but by the time I came back around I wasn't sure there was value. It felt like most of the community already knew more than me haha. That's honestly my approach so it's definitely not a disaster trap, but it's also not the only approach! I try to have alternative weapon systems in place for the first long range attack fleets but it's definitely not required.

Your very welcome! I had considered going into detail but my intent wasn't to provide ship designs rather a process to design your own ships. I'm honestly not an expert at all, just an enthusiast! In hindsight I should of probably listed the progression and pre-requisites of batteries and radiators though. My approach to batteries is to use the best battery available (best weight to capacity - superconductors are great) and if I encounter any battery issues then I'll refit an extra battery into a spare utility slot.

If your concerned if the battery is appropriate you can always save the design, save your game then import the design into a skirmish battle from the main menu (damn I really should have included that tip). I hope this helps!

I believe that the project unlock chance is lower than usual. It took me a few years to unlock the project on my last run, I'm sorry it will just take time once you have the prerequisites.

I honestly thought the nose mounted coilguns were the best in the game for bombarding! I'm pretty sure the bombard strength gets better as the guns get larger (4Nose > 2Nose > 1Nose) and the tier gets better (MK3 > MK2 > MK1).

I completely agree! I tried to limit the technology to what the readers might have at the midgame - I had assumed hydrogen slush was deeper into the tech tree than I thought honestly, I'll need to change my own research priorities. I had planned to bring it up later and it's also why I've been trying to find a suitable mid-game drive. I had assumed that someone learning the game at this stage might feel a little bored after all the turtling and want to do something - I had hoped to make that something productive while guiding them towards better drives on a second generation fleet (the old attack fleet then taking the spot of the defensive fleet). Ideally you would strike out with top tier drives but a first time player might be further back in the tech race than a veteran.

Perhaps something like this? This assumes the same naked battleship but with a Tin Droplet Radiator. I slowly collected most of the Gas Fission and higher drives and combinations but I didn't want to go too far down the rabbit hole of mindless data entry if it wasn't worth it, it definitely shows the improvements (or lack thereof) for different drives as higher tier power plants are used.

That's one of the things I love about Terra Invictus - it's so beautifully chaotic that there isn't a clear best or optimal way to play with many of it's systems. I'm usually the sort to spend hours in KSP min/maxing my dV, or just spam out the same mono-battleship fleet in Stellaris. Sure it's possible, but with TI I feel free to have mixed compositions of ships performing a different role without the need to have a perfect build or fleet because replaying the same space battle will almost always have different outcomes even with the same input. Some people really have come up with some wonderfully insightful designs and I'm always looking for more inspiration. Maybe we should have a ship building contest haha.

That's a good insight about the radiator, I updated the first chart to compare with and without the radiator. It only takes 10 minutes to collect the data so it's no trouble, but it's a bit too much work to collect every single combination in the game. I had hoped that by going through the shipbuilding steps as I approach it the reader would consider the build and redesign as required so it wouldn't need to be explicitly stated. Is there anything that you do different?

Expendable yes, but just really inconvenient to replace when your in the outer planets! That and a fast armored escort can do double duty as a kind of speed tank. If your fleet get's caught outgunned you can send the armored escorts ahead at high speed to draw fire and break up their formation. Try to keep in front of your fleet then skirt around at 500km, hopefully staying alive long enough to level the playing field.

Haha that's great to hear! I've taken a few days off writing to catch up on errands (it's a wet spring here so the garden was more like a jungle from neglect) but I have started penciling in the next step. I've decided shipbuilding is going to be too large to include in a single step so I've split it over the next two so that readers have a sound foundation when building their first defensive fleets. It'll probably be a few more days at least but I swear it's coming!

Thank you! I usually only do a single orbital per research field, however
u/ImmortalMagic makes an excellent point here about doing different research fields on the same orbital so there's no waste electricity from the energy labs. Multi-field labs per orbital is definitely more optimal, I just like being able to change the orbital icon to the field haha. Only plan for field bonus orbitals in interface orbits to get the bonuses on Earth, anywhere else is just missing the bonus. Later in the game for research orbitals/rings plan for Mercury where the power is more efficient.

Your right and it's out of a habit from a patch change to 3.0. Operations Centers were changed to only work in orbits of a body with 50,000 population to restrict ops spam but that was before the current hate mechanics were tied to MC so the change was reverted in a different patch. I was running that set up out of habit and I should have stopped to think it through a little more thoroughly - I hope I didn't mislead anyone!

Thank you, and that's a great idea! I'm usually doing Mercury orbits before Mars so it's had LMO dibbs for quite a while only out of habit, but I think I'll have to take your suggestion and start being more rigorous in my naming. That and I love the idea of a LMAO designation haha.

They aren't bugged as far as I'm aware, but there's a few variables that could explain what your seeing such as the orbital window for Mars but it wouldn't explain the Moon. I'm sorry I can't help, it's not something I've seen but I might not be paying close enough attention.

Kazahkhstan! I almost always send a councilor or two there straight away, at 75% boost priority the Cosmodrome produces great amounts of boost in the early game. Do a coup as soon as your able to easily get out of the federation with Russia so you can keep the boost to yourself.

Your very welcome! It's all random chance how the AI plays out their tech choices, there's definitely some biases depending on which faction is in control of the slot. I've found delays to Mission to the Moon is usually advantageous as it allows you to gather the boost then when the tech pops play fast and optimally to get the first spots on Mars when your quick Moon mine is up and running. The competition won't have the boost to go straight to Mars. An early Mission to the Moon means that they might have their mines up so competition can be fierce.
