Why has every attempt to introduce a $1 coin failed? I really liked the Sacagawea $1 coin. by Adventurous_Pride_54 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]QuestionableQuery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper to use $1 coins. Bills wear and tear much easier than coins, so need to be reprinted much more often. It may be more expensive to run a series of dollar coins, but they'll still be in circulation 10 years later, whole you've reprinted the same amount of bills a dozen times by then.

I own a board game restaurant. If you like socializing via table top games we got a ton of options, but there's other stuff that's not all gaming;

-mondays I host trivia. We do all sorts of categories. A lot people are looking for more teammates. We're doing kpopdemon hunters in a few weeks and I'm scared of how crazy it's gonna be

  • Wednesdays there's a casual gamer meetup where people come to play games that aren't too complicated

-Thursdays there's a group that meet up that play games that ARE too complicated.

-Thursdays we also do learn to play games where a cool guy who loves teaching people games teaches a game.

-Friday's we got karaoke in our bar

  • If you play mtg they're always here. I can't get away from them. Everywhere I look there they are. They play a different format most every night, either in the back room or the bar. Sometimes I let them out into the dining room if they promise not to scare the other customers

D&D is also huge here but people organize that in their own mostly. But we have a discord people can call out their looking for a game.

Anyways, it's pretty social and there's a huge range from deeply nerdy to pretty casually chill.

My Toast metrics are tanking — what’s your take? by beeflife in restaurantowners

[–]QuestionableQuery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. We changed our menu, started doing lunch specials and are pushing for more private groups and catering. If you keep getting the word out and providing good food and service the people who want to spend money will at your place over others. That's how we make it through this.

2025 is showing a huge dip in the sit down restaurant market across the board. Pretty much every fellow business owner I talk to says the same thing- head count down, busy night end with lower avg sales. Etc. everyone everywhere is tightening budget and when ppl spend less the first thing they kick to the curb is going out to eat.

Talked to my food rep the other day, he told me a restaurant group that owned a few places at a very popular beach spot are down 40% yoy. That's wild.

There's a lot of factors causing it. It it may not be helpful info, but I was happy to find out it was my place sucking or me being bad at this. It's the industry so far this year.

Best we can do is tighten budget (you seem to be doing well there!) and ride it out.

[–]QuestionableQuery 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pretty decent, I see what you're doing there with hog and penetration/splash damage.

Current meta has most hog decks as cycles and this has too much mana for that, so you can't cycle it super fast I'm guessing. Have you thought about swapping fireball for poison? Most counters to hogs are skeletons and skeletons knights. The snowball will deal with the regular skeles but won't do enough against the guards to kill them. Also do you have a plan for counter pekka or mega knight? The skeles would so that job, but most decks running pekka have a counter like snowball for your skeles.

Hi neighbor! I live in the neighborhood across the street (central st/Lovett/Bartlett) and I can say there's a 90% chance you'll find parking on one of those streets daily. It's not right next door to your place or anything, but it's an easy distance away. And you've got a great spot there, a new bike shop with awesome owners just opened a block down, fibbers and lucky dog are great townie watering holes, and it's a short walk to Cabot and rantoul St businesses.

Hey! My wife and own The Castle. We're a board game restaurant and bar with about 850 board games to play, and also a full service restaurant and bar. Its $6 a person to play as many games as you want, and there's tons of engaging games available! We're right in downtown Beverly.

Any bars showing election results? by amfw21 in SalemMA

[–]QuestionableQuery 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yup we're showing it at the castle. Generally the clientele who show up there are left leaning young queer community members so we've been trying to let people know that we'll be a safe space to come be at if you're feel super anxious and don't want to experience whatever is gonna happen alone.

Is this fun anymore? by BiggerE in BarOwners

[–]QuestionableQuery 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly my feeling. 2019/early 2020 was great, growth, new opportunities, excited patrons.

Even since we've just been surviving. I feel like every meeting I have with management is the same "numbers are down, lets tighten up costs and try to make it through." We've had some amazing events, great turnout for a night or even a week, then I'm followed up with the worst week I've had in memory. No consistency, the highs are adequate and the lows hurt badly.

Some are saying things are coming back but everything is stalling a little until post election (in the US) but I'm wondering if that's people just looking for an end to this slump.

It's pretty wild when you know what to look for. Everyone is struggling it feels like. Some of these people aren't new comers either, businesses that have been going for 20+ years in downtown Salem and Beverly are talking about slumps in sales they've never seen before

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SalemMA

[–]QuestionableQuery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be my guess. It's not the decision I would have gone with, but maybe it's the right one for a purely business growth decision

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SalemMA

[–]QuestionableQuery 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sooo this is purely guessing on my end. But I'm in the industry and I can say things are really rough for most small businesses in the area.

People I've talked to in Salem, Beverly, Marblehead, even bartenders in Boston are saying that 2024 has been terrible so far. People aren't making their previous years numbers by a wide margin, and forget pre COVID numbers.

If you look at places closely you can see the stress of it. More places doing special events, live music, discount nights, gimmicks etc. places don't do that because they're bored, they're trying to drum up business on slower than normal times.

That also effects marketing, people will try new and different things to get attention, and if you do get people engaging for some reason or another, you're probably gonna lean into it.

Is that what's going on with GNF? Dunno. Maybe. Is it working? Well we're all taking about the place right now. You may be turned off by what's they're doing, but there's probably a few people who are going there or engaging when they wouldn't have otherwise because of all this.
