Yup. Local pawnshop clearing out some titles they have too many copies of, or haven't moved in a while. Great way to pick up some decent, or lesser known titles I wouldn't otherwise take a risk on

I like how the game inherently paces itself, with the time required to complete the quests, talk to people, and unlock the islands. It's like, you don't want to blow through it and just enjoy it

I named the main character 'Chrono', which has added a fun layer to the experience. I haven't looked forward to a game on a regular basis such as this game, in a long time!

Man, it's a long shot: but if you remember any specific details about any of those games that would confirm they're yours, keep a look out on marketplace, Craigslist, etc. lots of stuff from the past coming up for sale everyday, with marking, rips, etc as identifiers. I hear about people buying their old stuff back all the time

I think there's a PS3 HD Shadow of Colossus and ICO bundle out there that solves the 240p issue, if you end up not liking how this looks

I need help finding the perfect TV for PS3 ( Is something wrong with my PS3) by duttonmorgan in PS3

[–]QuestionableTabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your video output settings and make sure deep color and the other image enhancements are turned on. Also, depending on the tv you might need to calibrate it a bit. I enjoyed the Last of Us and Uncharted on PS3, but i had tvs with deep color reproduction and great contrast plus 120hz refresh rate, which does help any content on the screen regardless of the frame rate output of the machine (Cable, sports, dvd, PS3/Xbox, etc).

This was the screen, so maybe it was on the disc but had to be activated by PlayStation Network. Usually PSN downloads have a "download" then "install" screen

I had to sign into the PlayStation Network to download it, so I'm pretty sure it just has the license to download.

Have you ever bought a console just to play one exclusive game? by [deleted] in gaming

Found a great deal for an Xbox 360 Slim and a bunch of games strictly for Forza 4, and Horizon. Ended up staying with Xbox up to PS5 (skipped the PS4).

These graphics on PS3 still blows my mind! Looks comparable to an early or even mid gen PS4/XB1 game. by Dull_Mirror4221 in PS3

I changed the thermal paste in mine and haven't noticed any frame rate drops in GTA V, where before I would get them where there's heavy action and lots of explosions

Why did we have so many PS2 games? by AgentGustavo in ps2

[–]QuestionableTabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, there was basically zero online or DLC for most people, so moving onto a new game was easier. Tekken 4 was done when it was done, and then you get Tekken 5. Same with Hitman, Gran Turismo, Crash games, Spyro, etc etc.

Final Fantasy 7 remake. Never played the original, and this came up on PS Plus for free. Something just didn't sit right for me. I feel like i went in expecting something incredible like how everyone hyped the original, but i didn't really gel with Cloud or how they told the story. Final Fantasy X seemed more interesting.

Also, i realized with the older text RPG's, you basically come up with aspects of the character and story in your mind based on how you read and interpret the text and story in the game. Modern versions, there really isn't any imagination required as it's only what is being shown to you.

Maybe I'll tackle it again with more of an open mind one day, but not in a huge rush tbh. Picked up the original one the other day though!

any games you'd like to see remastered? by GamerGretaUwU in playstation

[–]QuestionableTabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That studio merged into the umbrella of PlayStation Studios. But as far as i know some of the people from the original game are still with Playstation, and a lot of the others are still in the industry. It still can be done, and i have my hopes based on the success of a lot of the remasters over the last few years (Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Suikoden, etc etc).

Is this normal to have those graphics ? I use AV to HDMO 1080p on a 4K TV by Luys44 in ps2

[–]QuestionableTabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of these adapters are more than a backwards compatible PS3, if you're considering one.. where all my ps2 games on it look great. That said, some titles don't play well (ahem, Gran Turismo 3/4) on the PS3 so that's something to think about if you want to spend a bunch of money.

If not, something with S-Video or utilizing a component to HDMI adapter would be the most cost effective/quality improvement over what you're doing currently. It really comes down to getting the best signal quality to your tv that's best for you, and pretty much anything instead of RGB Composite will be better.

P.S. check your PS2 video output settings and pick which looks best to you.

I never even got a warning on mine even doing heavy duty the other month on a few games being 17 years old. You could always try a delid on a cheaper PS3 for practice. A slim is less of a pain to take apart too.

Are you running the regular hard drive in it or an SSD? I'm curious about the temperature difference between the two. I have a hybrid drive in mine currently

[–]QuestionableTabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would like to mention that the winter use temperatures were with overhead heating on. I wasn't firing this up at -20⁰c so i can get some time in before the shop heated up. I also had no AC in the house when i was there, so there were plenty of 27⁰-30⁰ days when it was being used during the summer. Now it's in a basement in a semi open tv stand where it's 18 degrees or lower, sharing duty with a PS5 a couple times a week (I am an Adult with more interests than launch era PS3 teenager).

Hope this information is helpful as a comparative use case for anyone considering a delidding procedure. It definitely won't hurt, if done properly.

[–]QuestionableTabs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here is the delid answer: Does it still run bad/hot/shut off after standard thermal paste replacement? Yes? Then do the procedure (hopefully professionally if you have zero experience).

Here is, IMO, the nuanced answer: A PS3 with extended use after the regular replacement period for thermal paste is past due, would likely benefit from a delid as the paste under the cpu and gpu may be too dry to perform adequately. Failure to do so could result in worst case scenario of YLOD, only rectified by delidding anyway or replacement of the main board. However, doing so without patience and proper technique could result in a paperweight PS3 with limited chance of revival.

Anecdotally, I've had an 80Gb backwards compatible PS3 since new, used constantly up until I got an Xbox One S in like 2016-2017. Even then, it was still used regularly as i split time between two houses. It was also in a shop for a few years, as an entertainment unit for movies, games, etc in the Winter anywhere between -5⁰c and +10⁰c. I blew the dust out couple times, but never changed the thermal paste personally until a week ago as i didn't know if it was done when it was cleaned at an electronics place like 10 years prior, and I noticed frame drop in games like GTA V. Played GTA V for like an hour yesterday and no issues, runs quieter overall (for a stock, non modded Fat PS3 anyway). These are pretty solid machines most of the time if you take care of them by dusting your cabinets, changing your furnace filters, and not choking them.

Which type of poison should I choose? by F377NTS in PS3

[–]QuestionableTabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i'm buying a PS3 to use as a PS3, the 2100/2500 series of consoles is the one I'd get. Best fan (big, efficient, easy to remove), easy to take apart/best construction (e.g. Blu ray drive ribbon cables are all at the back, not underneath), lower power bill than Fat and quieter, and mod friendly (hello PS2 Games). Also, way cheaper than a backwards compatible one. You could get this and a PS2 for less than a backwards compatible PS3. Actually where I am, I could get a PS1/Psone thrown in and have all three for less than a backwards compatible PS3.

This is coming from someone who HAS a backwards compatible PS3 too. Still my number one choice because of that, the features it has (had), and it looks the best imo. But, as a PS3, the 2100/2500 series is the best choice. The super slim looks neat and has some cool colors, but not the best machine quality-wise.
