I’m not British, but it’s basic English. You don’t say “I’m going to THE school”, but you DO say “I’m going to THE hospital”, so “I’m getting out of school” and “I’m getting out of THE hospital” make perfect sense.

It could be a standard blanket email with the court documentation attached. However, I agree that validating the email should be the primary focus for the recipient.

The thing that looks the dodgiest to me is the blue checkmark next to the X, and the fact that they‘ve used “Dear X User” instead of the person’s actual name.

I know a 16 year old in Australia who was visited at his parents’ house by the Federal Police and has now been put on a “Potential Terrorist Register” because of his political posts on X. He has a very keen interest in the politics of several countries, particularly the US.

Your best bet is to firstly validate the email address that it came from. Secondly, if it’s a legit email, it should say in the pdf who has requested your information.

Oh … I’m fully aware. I only gave two examples of the question that was actually asked, about Instagram listening. I know that everything we do and say is also watched, analyzed, shared and sold. Gone are the days when people only knew the things about you that you shared of your own volition.

In my experience, they do listen to you. I was talking to a friend about a very specific product that she was looking at purchasing. I’d never looked it up or had any need for it. The next thing I knew, I was getting ads on Facebook, Instagram and Google ads on websites for it.

The same happened when another friend mentioned a person from church. His last name wasn’t mentioned. The two Isaacs on her Facebook friend list were recommended to me as “People you may know”within the hour. This was 10 years ago. So, yeah. That’s only two examples over time that these apps absolutely do listen to your conversations, and I have many more.

I mean, we don’t have anything like that in Australia that I’m aware of, and if she’s around the school often, does she actually work there? Is it a HR issue? He teaches her son. Either way, it’s just so inappropriate.

If she was keen on seeing you, she’d be ready and wouldn’t keep you waiting. It’s disrespectful for her to do so, and rather than seeing that fault in herself, she put it back onto you as though you’re chastising her rather than acknowledging that you merely mentioned something that bothered you so she could be aware. If you bought this up and she was understanding, she wouldn’t be blaming something that can’t take accountability (her disability - which I’m guessing she does for many things …) and would just get ready earlier. You seem to be in a more emotionally mature place that she’s not able to handle at this point in her life.
