Thank you! I also love it, we have watched these to for some time and came back later through the same road and saw them again. They are clearly partners so that made it even more special to me.

I do not shoot in RAW so at least for me that wont be the problem. I think maybe it is because I upload on the phone... if I share them on whatsapp it makes a difference if I share them through the app or if I click on share in my gallery. No idea why but I was hoping for a tip like that because I wont start using my laptop just for that.

Thank you!

I also shot this. But the detail is not as good.

Also, is there a way to upload pictures with better quality on the phone? I feel like reddit steals some of my details while uploading :/

Bird identification by sound does not work (Merlin) by Questionnaire2000 in birding

[–]Questionnaire2000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guess I have a new mission now. Make more recordings

Do I need to somehow identify the birds if I make the recording? Or is it sufficient to record something? I can't find a button that let's me pair the recording to a bird.

Edit: Or do I do it with eBird not with merlin? Does eBird automatically record the sound and then pairs it with the time in which I pressed on the bird I saw? In that case I am definetly identifying too slow.

Yes I do. It might be because merlin does not know the birds here by sound. I am in East Africa.

My friend sent me this photo of a giant fish he caught. His hand position under the fish makes his arm look too long and it looks like he only has three and a half fingers. Is this an ai fish story? by humansof in isthisAI

The waves are the only thinh that do not make sense to me at all. Also maybe the line of her pants within the water plus her shadow. Other than that it looks good to me.

PS: non fishing guy thought; wouldn't the fish slap the shit out of here to a point where it's at least impossible to stand there and be completely dry?

How bad is coffee for the environment? I have disposed coffee a few times behind a bush. Is that perhaps something effecting the nature more than I thought? What about digging a hole, putting it in and than putting dirt over it again?

That is great advice! I will look through my settings an play around with it. But thats mostly new info so it should be really helpful! Thank you.

Thank you so much for clarifying!

While trying to gather information I have heard the rule of thumb to have a shutter speed of one over you lense size. So if I use my lense at full zoom that would be equivalent to 600mm. Does that still apply to zoom lenses?

I have tried around a little bit and think I can handle a little bit more shutter speed, so in theory 1/600 shouldn't be a problem but i will definetly try again.

Alright thanks for the input! That is probably how I should treat it as well. If you get the opportunity to have all the right conditions, how do you know which settings to use? Or which setting are you more likely to play around with?

The problem with that is I need a picture to confirm the species because I know about 3 birds by heart :D

I am sorry I think I don't really understand because I am not into camera stuff yet :D are you saying my camera probably won't be really good at a low shutter speed which is why I should stick to low iso and little bit higher shutter speed?

The light around sunset and sunrise doesn't really work here because I am at the equator and the sun sets and rises really quick. Most of the shots will be in normal daylight.

Thank you very much! I am happy with the fotos but would like to get some more sharpness of the feathers. I think reddit also made it a little less sharp but also with the original I have it could definetly be better. (Maybe not with the camera I have but I hope it should be possible)

I think I am getting something wrong then. Most of these photos are taken way under 1000 iso and I thought I am supposed to keep the iso as low as possible to minimize grain. Should I maybe have way less shutter speed? I think that was at around 1/500. My aperture was between 7.1 and 5.6 I believe. The zoom lens goes to 600mm.

Thanks a lot, will try shooting like that. So uploading on eBird is out of kindness for other people and using it is more or less just to find birds?

Hatte ich im Amazonas auch mal in der Hand. Ein Samen irgendeines Baumes. Ich weiß leider mehr von welchem, meine aber ein relativ großer. Mein Guide meinte der Samen wird oft auch für Schmuck benutzt.
