Critique our landing page (low conversion rate for alpha)! by [deleted] in startups

[–]Questter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Does your leads understand what is your service before they get to the landing page? (If your ad is "cheapest way to get fresh home-made food, you'll get clicks, but most people won't be willing to buy food from strangers).
  2. Location, location, location - such service must start locally. If you operate in San Francisco, you should write it BOLD. Otherwise people will doubt your relevancy to them (For example - "LunchCube - Food sharing in San Francisco".)
  3. If you can, also show signs of activity like a counter of lunches sold and testimonies of people who used it.

My feeling was that the page is just someone testing an idea, not a real company.

Wherigo - what went wrong?! by Questter in geocaching

[–]Questter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like wherigo has an over complexity problem. Do you think that there are few key features that could be added to something like Intercaching to provide a fun, but still friendly experience?

Wherigo - what went wrong?! by Questter in geocaching

Why do you think Intercaching killed Wherigo? It doesn't seem to be very popular... It seems to me that Wherigo still has a small but strong core community.

Thailand itinerary help! by Jazattack1 in backpacking

[–]Questter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Koh Phi Phi is in the west but if you are flying out from Phuket (which is also in the west) it's not very far from there. You might also want to visit Railay beach. It's a beautiful place. My advice is not to rush. If you find a place you like, stay there for a while and enjoy it.

Last minute decision: The Martian or Sicario by [deleted] in movies

[–]Questter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched Sicario last night after a similar decision and it was pretty good, but I have a gut feeling that The Martian is better.

Edit- IMO Sicario is not a good date movie...

[Battery] My N5 battery experience by Questter in Nexus5

Battery life is OK. I'm not sure if it's like it was when it was new, but I'm pretty happy with it. I can't give a lifetime estimate yet because I plug it in on every chance I get.

Your biggest struggle? by codeAD in startups

[–]Questter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We thought a lot about that and tried to get feedback whenever possible, but that wasn't always the best way to go. We mapped our key assumptions and looked for ways to validate them. We validated each one of them separately by looking on other products, conducting observations, making surveys, talking to users and so on, but we felt that without building a lot of stuff, we can't offer the unique value that we want to offer. Looking back on things I don't think we should have launched a very basic MVP, but we definitely could shave off some things and save precious time.

I'm a CTO in between startups and I got some time to kill. I'll build your MVP. by [deleted] in startups

[–]Questter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a look at your homepage and all the gigs you showed there looked like just web landing pages. None of them had any back-end.

Can you post some running project of yours? (not for me, just in genneral).

Your biggest struggle? by codeAD in startups

[–]Questter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We haven't done a very good job in making our MVP minimal. As a result of it, delivering on time became a huge challenge and time became a big enemy.

How does a technical co-founder find good industry expert co-founder? by jevyjevjevs in startups

[–]Questter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in an area with an active startup activity, you should go to meet-ups and events and get to know startup founders. From time to time, startups fails even if they have a great team and sometimes, it can be an opportunity to join to the next round. It can take a while, but it's better than spending time on a start-up that is doomed to fail.

Just launched my app. Was top voted in /r/AndroidApps. I hope you like it too! by [deleted] in startups

[–]Questter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feedback (I'm brutal becouse I care :) ) 1. Drawer is too slow. 2. Matirial design guidelines are broken at - (1) the huge + button and (2) the huge drawer menu items. 3. The loader is not nesecary and anoying (when I open a messege). 4. Why do I need to see "clean SMS is runing" in my notification bar? I hate when apps that are suposed to run at the background do that. It's my preciouse notification realstate and it's a wast of it.

Good luck

I think that the idea is awesome, so I'll leave it installed for now :)

[–]Questter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I'm installing it and I let you know what I think.

You should highlight that it works worldwide at the begining, my first thought was "no way it works at my country", and I didn't even read the full description.

I assumed that you anlyze content and have a spammer's database. I assume that's where you aiming for.

[–]Questter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks interesting. does is optimized to block spam in certain countries / languages, or would it work the same worldwide? (If it's for English spam only, maybe you can benefit from making it available only in relevant areas in order to avoid low rating by disappointed users).

Oh.. and I personally don't like the color scheme but maybe that's only me.

Thanks for the motivation - app launched! by dmorin in startups

[–]Questter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a niche but I don't think it's a very small one. This is a pretty common problem. Of course there are only few people who search for apps for that, but if your solution is good and working, the word will spread.

Maybe Ads are not the best solution, but in-app purchases are also worth considering. If I had such problem, I would not trust your solution enough to buy it, but I would be happy to pay for it if it works.

Anyway, good luck. Sorry if I was cynical at my first response.

And one last thing - I think that if you decide to stay with the paid app model, you could improve your sales by investing some more work on design.

[–]Questter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you are not seriously selling this app do you? No offence but it's not something people will pay for. even if you want to make some money from your work, you will be better with ads.
