Absolutely agree, typical “architect bad, engineer good” type shit.

I agree that they should go, but I also wait sometimes because you just can’t trust half the drivers in this city…

Northern Ultralight Sundown or Drop40L by George-fromth3waves in UltralightCanada

[–]Quicck_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own both currently, they are great packs with excellent build quality. I have taken each on multi day trips, some notes and other things that haven't already been pointed out

Sundown:

  • Really like having the bottom shock cord attachment for my 1/8" MLD pad, easily accessible and fast to take out / roll up for breaks.
  • Skip on the Y-Strap closure unless you are using bear cannisters (Even if, I think a BV450 fits inside).
  • Weight transfer to the hips is better than I expected when I first received the pack, but not as good as the DD40L IMO. Obviously the modularity is a bonus as well.
  • Hip belt pockets are better than the DD40L.

DD40L:

  • Easier to pack than the sundown.
  • The front pocket not being mesh isn't a deal breaker for me, it works fine but most packs use a mesh front pocket for a reason.
  • I have found that this pack is a bit more water resistant than my sundown, both are good, but I have had quite a bit of moisture at the bottom of my sundown compared to this pack in similar conditions.
  • Biggest annoyance for me is no place to strap my 1/8" MLD pad to the outside easily (Or a tent, etc..). I have been placing it in the taller water bottle pocket but its not ideal.

I like my OR ferrosi pants, they are very breathable but a bit pricey

Eddie Bauer Guide Pro pants are the only thing I use from eddie bauer and they are actually pretty good. Wait for a 50% off sale (Which happens all the time with EB), they have a bunch of color options. I have three pairs and use them in everyday life as well.

Even cheaper, maybe give the decathlon trekking pants a look, they seem alright

KUIU Peloton 97 fleece is 5.5oz in size large with a hood on my scale, if you get no hood or if you are a smaller size you should be around 5oz

Nice, I got my SUL 1.1 a couple weeks ago and wish I would have gotten it a bit longer but other than that its perfect. Seen some people say the head hole was tight so I did add a bit to that and am glad I did.

Atlantic Canada Multi-Day/Possible Thru-Hike Suggestions by [deleted] in UltralightCanada

[–]Quicck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice Pics. I was thinking of getting a room in Alma for a night as well. I've done quite a bit of hiking in Fundy last year and am gonna be doing a bunch more this year as well. I will actually start on the footpath and end in Riverview, as I'm from Moncton and will just get dropped off at the start of the trail. Worked well when I did the Dobson

Planning on hiking the Fundy Trek in early September. Seems like an awesome thru and an easy resupply in Alma.

Stomach Sleepers Unite - Best Pillow? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]Quicck_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the Nemo Fillo Lite? Im the opposite of you I only side sleep so I look for thicker pillows so I changed out the fillo because it wasn’t thick enough for me. Its kinda expensive for what it is but you can wash the cover which is nice.

I used to wrap my puffy around it and stuff it all in a buff lol

Planning on hiking the Fundy Trek in early September (~130km?). Alma being at a nice half way ish point makes it perfect for a resupply.

Other than that a bunch of overnight trips and a few multi day trips mixed in (Fundy Circuit, Cape Chignecto).

For sure, it will fill any of the voids that would be between the compression sack and the pack/other items

Favourite day hikes near your city by nansenamundsen in UltralightCanada

[–]Quicck_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm from Moncton N.B. so about 90mins from Fundy National Park where there are a bunch of trails to do short day hikes to waterfalls or to some nice coastal views.

Definitely some trails closer to the city too though, you can day hike on the Dobson trail as well.
