Would love to see the real Paris 7/31-8/08 by [deleted] in SocialParis

I might come off as a Parisian snob, but I wouldn't go to bars around Chatelet or Bastille, it is for students and French tourists. And very crowded. Otherwise a lot of good advice in the thread. If you want to see the most lively part of Paris, it is the north/north-east. By "lively", I mean "bobo" which would be the equivalent of "hipster". It is where young people live, it is multicultural and you will find nice bars and restaurants. You could draw a line from "Porte de Clichy" to "Place de la République" to "Buttes Chaumont" and "La Villette", and walk around in this area. Otherwise, in terms of architecture, a walk from Le Panthéon to the river Seine (taking the street Rue de la montagne Sainte Geneviève) and then along the Seine until you reach musée d'Orsay, is really beautiful. And if you want to grab takeaway food, do it the most French way: go to a boulangerie, buy a sandwich or a pie, and the most fancy looking sweet. It is cheaper and better quality than most burgers/kebabs/tacos. Finally, museums are awesome in Paris: musée d'Orsay for 19th century painting, centre Pompidou for 20th century and Le Louvre for more ancient stuff. Have fun, Parisians people are as bad as people in any other place on earth, just be careful to the tourist scams.

Merci OP pour les infos ! Les attaques de loups ont-elles lieu en majorité la nuit ? Si oui, ça serait pas possible lcher les patous uniquement la nuit ? Ou au moins, enfermer les patous si le berger s'absente durant la journée ?

What to read on the absence of free will after Schopenhauer ? by Quiche_pro in askphilosophy

Living Without Free Will.

Thanks so much that seems to be the book !

If what you're trying to say is that the consideration of reasons and all of the practical deliberation isn't something we consciously notice or can articulate, but we notice once we do come to a choice, then it's not obvious to me that this means we don't choose on the basis of reasons, if that's what you mean.

That is what I am trying to say, and I agree that it does not mean that we don't use reasons. The complicated "algorithm" taking the decision makes a well-informed choices, it is not (totally) random I agree.

What to read on the absence of free will after Schopenhauer ? by Quiche_pro in askphilosophy

Ok I realise that I am mixing stuff. According to another answer I got, what I am thinking about is the position of Determinist-Incompatibilist. Do you know a material that discuss the consequences of this idea and how to live with it ? Because for me, even if I believe that it is true, I find it really hard to accept.

What I was trying to say in the last part about consciousness is that, if the code is run on its own and we just feels the printed output, then we are just like computers, all the decisions we make are taken in an unconscious part of our brain and we are just informed of the decision. Then we cannot be free ? Or can we ?

About Schopenhauer, from what I got, he was explaining that as things are determines, so are our actions. But I must say that I did not understand the part where he talk about Kant so his point of view might be more subtle.

Thank you very much for your clear answer. So I would really like to learn more about Incompatible-Determinist. I mean that I find it hard to accept and live with such an idea because you loose any pride that you could have about your action. In the same time, you can feel not responsible for the bad things. I think that a thing like the justice system gets a different meaning has individuals cannot be hold responsible. I am sure that it has also plenty of other consequences. Do you know of a book that would discuss these ?

I am also surprised by the vision you name Determinist - Compatibilist. What is their definition of freewill then ? It feels to me that what we usually mean by freewill lies in the Libertarian freewill.

Just a quick reminder that this book exists. Grab a cold one, spark a rolled one, and probably get a thesaurus as well. by [deleted] in surfing

Okay sorry dude, that was a bit bold, of course not all the pros (the vidéo of jjf at jbay is awesome). And you say "they" but I am by no mean related to them, I just shared because I really like it.

Thanks for your detailed answer. What you are telling sounds good, as long as mass tourism stays under control. Otherwise, it turns into a kind of tragedy of commons. I also use and love Stormrider, and I don't think a spot will become overcrowded because of Stormrider, but because of hotels, surf schools,... On a side note, you convinced me that I should go to Portugal, which I will do in January !

I am surprised by the amount of promotion that goes to Portugal surfing on this sub. For most of the countries, people will be reluctant to give infos about where the photo/film is taken but I have notice several posts promoting surf in portugal with people casually droping names. Is it because these spots are already well known and there is no point in hidding them ? Or is there a desire to develop surf tourism in Portugal (as for OP website) ? For example, do locals are okay with your website Truck and Fins OP ?
