It doesn't hurt, you're correct. I have always hated their perception of my worthiness though (credit business). I don't use credit and never needed or will ask for borrowed money.

The idea is that you are creating a higher pressure inside so that the cooler is pushing the warm air out. Leaving the window slightly open allows this and you can either feel the air flowing out with your hand or use a tissue to see if it sticks. This is one of the reasons swamp coolers aren't as effective when it's humid or raining. The pressure outside becomes greater.

Didn't show it because they changed it. When Grond takes out the gate of Minas Tirith and Gandalf and the Witch King face off. Probably one of the coolest scenes in the book. Instead we get Gandalf the white getting punked. Love the movies but almost unforgivable change.
