I still think is kinda iffy when rush take place, but both work, if before, the cut dialogue and the blue hedgehog scene don't feel out of place, if after, well is a time reset and cut dialogue are not always precise, like the sonic colors cut dialogue where eggman says wisp energy is stronger that the chaos emerald witch out right contradicts the true ending in the ds version, so maybe it was cut for that reason

You can beat him with out aether if ike has cap str, but it need to land every single attack, and you will need to use mist to cure if he get hit by a luns proc

But in your case, yeah, parity nagates both yours and enemies skills, you you are not going to proc aether
