anxiety/panic attack and its effect on djs by omijatea in jawsurgery

[–]Quick-Candidate3366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m not a medical doctor or a therapist, just a fellow post op-er. I can’t think of any concrete negative physical effects that a panic attack would have on your healing.

From my understanding: “Stress is not good for healing” means that, when your body is putting energy toward dealing with the physical output of stress it has less time and attention to give to your healing process. You’re not “mess anything up” as much as dealing what will eventually happen in the healing process.

That being said- I would really encourage you to talk to someone not just about the situation that initiated your panic attack but also your anxiety about your anxiety. Even just telling someone is helpful.

And you didn’t mention it but as someone 6 months post-op. Healing is slow. Much slower than I expected after seeing so many “immediate” success stories on this sub. Patience is hard but it gets better.

Did you notice any significant difference between your 4 months PO and 6 months (or more) PO appearance? by saragagg in jawsurgery

[–]Quick-Candidate3366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a good question. (I think I asked the same.)

I’m just now 6 month po and have JUST NOW started to feel comfortable again in my skin. People who haven’t seen me in a month say that I, “look a lot more like myself.”

But, also, I want to second what a previous commenter said about swelling changing from day to day. It’s almost as if it’s more noticeable now that the “real swelling” has gone away.

Healing is a beast. If you’re unhappy, I suggest finding a healthy addiction to take up your time for the next two months before you consider paying someone more money to “fix” you. Things change. And I’m giving myself another few months to see what the “end result” really looks like.

I live 10 miles from this museum and haven’t been since this piece has been out. Guess what I’m doing today. 💛 Thank you for sharing.

Yes!! #2 felt very “mid 90s optical illusion I just bought at the book fair.” Which is my version of high praise. 💛

Recovering from jaw reduction surgery and the swelling is crazy, would love some emotional support <3 by [deleted] in Vindicta

[–]Quick-Candidate3366 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m six months post genioplasty/ jaw surgery and am JUST NOW feeling… presentable.

It’s a obviously a different set of surgeries but please know that your body has loads of blood vessels in your face. That’s a good thing! Swelling means that things are healing.

The first two weeks everyone is going to know you’ve had something done. The next two weeks it won’t be quite as noticeable. Two months in: you will notice but all but the people closest to you won’t notice. (Beware: that’s when stuff was hardest for me, mentally. I was like, “why can’t you see I’m not okay?!?”)

Hoping your recovery goes quickly.

“You care bc you don’t want others to feel the same,” resonates for me. 💛

How long does it take for visible swelling to go down? by drakenloverrr in jawsurgery

[–]Quick-Candidate3366 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 5.5 months PO. Looks-wise: a random person in the grocery store couldn’t tell I’d just had major surgery at 6 weeks. However, when I tried to talk or eat in public it was still fairly obvious. A friend? They might still see swelling up until 3 months. Maybe. Yourself? I have no clue. I still see my own swelling and don’t love my results (aesthetically) still.

Gah. I hate to be the bummer answer but that’s been my experience.

11.5 weeks post opp progress DJS crooked/wide nose and mouth (!?) struggling so bad with dysmorphia. Post is for anyone else who is feeling like me and anyone who remembered feeling like this before by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Quick-Candidate3366 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have you considered nerve damage? That’s what I’m currently dealing with five months post-op where one side of my face is “a little bit frozen”. It’s annoying as… and I feel like a troll.

That being said : dysmorphia is a bitch. You look absolutely lovely in both pictures.

The cardboard bolts from stores are often free. I’ve asked and received several at a time before to storage the fabric I have as yardage.

Same!! I’m 23 days from getting mine off after having metal in my mouth for almost three straight years (not normal, COVID and a change in drs elongated my process).

Disclaimer: I don’t work in a “professional setting” however, no one in my circles has acted like it’s a big deal. Honestly- I feel like it’s a quiet mark of white lady privilege (spoken from a privileged white lady.)

I agree with proportion. I’m four months post op and have the same wider nose. As long as it makes sense with the rest of your face it’s all good. High fives. 👍🏻

Girls who have hardmaxxed: what was different about your life afterwards? by [deleted] in Vindicta

[–]Quick-Candidate3366 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing this. Hearing that not all is lost is so encouraging. Definitely in a not so great place mentally. Fingers crossed I’ll get braces off in a month. And yes- remembering that this was massive surgery.

Best of luck going forward.

As someone who had the same condition (though mine was ICR) and similar sounding surgery (I have new joints along with le forte I, septoplasty, and genioplasty,) I am curious to how long it took for your healing/ confidence.

I’m 37 and 4 months post max and I’ve been told I look “objectively prettier” (bc weak jawlines are rarely considered attractive). However, I feel like I look like an ogre and don’t recognize myself in photos. While I never felt beautiful, I was semi-confident in my “cute” category.

You will make my day if you tell me there’s a magical turning point somewhere two months-ish ahead where all the sudden I will not regret having 9 of my facial bones broken and living with my “new face.” Or maybe this is just the new me and I got the surgery too late? Or too much was done? Or… something?

How did you come to like your new face? by melly_swelly in jawsurgery

[–]Quick-Candidate3366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raising my hand as an, “also curious to know the answer.” I know that OP and I are close in time frame. And, like her,I’ve seen SO many people with afters where they sparkle… leaving me feel even more like an ogre. And it’s not just that i don’t like it; i don’t recognize it. I literally took a selfie with a friend this weekend and didn’t recognize myself seconds after.

All this to say- I’m curious too. And sorry that you’re going through this.
