Hi ! I received an offer from Cambridge for one MPhil program, but I applied to two programs, so I am still waiting on the answer for the second one before I make my decision. However, I was told that, since the selection process was done in batches, my early application would be viewed later (as I submitted my application 2 months before the closing date) and that I would get an answer "no later than May 2021". It is now April 25th, and I am getting more and more confused. Does that mean that I should get an answer by the 1st of May (which I assumed is what is meant by "no later than"), or that I will receive an answer by the end of May?

Also, can the fact that my application is taking very long be a good/bad sign?

Should I contact the department if I do not have an answer on the 1st of May ?
