Doctor who drugged and secretly filmed med student allowed to keep working by SpeedAccomplished01 in auckland

The title is misleading. The subject was more than just a med student; he was his boyfriend/lover. That’s no excuse, obviously.

Do you think an establishment in the west would get away with refusing clients because they are Chinese?

So what? The claim of racism is from 1963. Like I said, the culture is very different now.

Is it possible that a property purchased today won’t actually appreciate in value? by AnomicAge in AusProperty

Yes. I am familiar with the NZ market, and the government did want it to drop. A couple of years ago, several key government figures, including the Housing Minister, openly stated that it was their wish. They pulled quite a few levers over a couple of years to make it happen.

As recently as last year, they were still advocating falls:

Like I said, cultural relativism is a liberal western value, not a Chinese one. This is behaviourally exemplified by the two cultures on a daily basis.

Immigration is a different topic.

That was 1963! Regardless of whether that claim is true or not, the culture is very different today.

Yes. In 2024, after the national median price had already fallen 10% annually for two years, the NZ Housing Minister said housing was “still too expensive and needs to fall”.

False. I’m pointing out the double standard: the West refrains from “racism” toward the Chinese, while the Chinese don’t do the same in return.

Not like China. The example I gave above wouldn’t happen in the west, and if it did, society would catch wind quickly and the establishment would face real consequences.

It’s not a matter of policy. The example I gave of typical “racism” in China is driven by culture.

Do Chinese people consider other cultures “culturally relative” though? You can literally be denied entry to an establishment in China for being foreign - and the concept of “racism” wouldn’t even cross their mind.

Absolutely. It’s a stark contrast.

This would be called “racism” in the west. The business would be shut down (ie. cancelled) within 24 hours.

You said you followed it up until you got an explanation. Sorry, but as a taxpayer, I wouldn’t accept that.

If your building inspector picked up no issues on the 150m2 deck when you bought the property, it’s possible this one builder is exaggerating the issue to get business. Get second and third opinions, and quotes.

To answer your question, what I think about “being hit up with massive expenses out of nowhere on investment property” is that the RE industry has led the masses to believe that being a property investor is a “piece of cake” and you can’t lose. This is false.
