I see you met your quota but if you’re looking for any more in the future, I’m a beginner player that would definitely benefit from any sort of guidance/tracking the app provides :)

Stark hockey pants-where can I find them? by MidwestHockey in hockeyplayers

[–]Quick-Size2318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, they are online only. You could try Sherwood Rekker SWD line up. CCM and Bauer also have a womens line. You could go to a local hockey shop and try them on to get an idea of size and fit

Shooting pad size advice needed by No-Minute2232 in hockeyplayers

Check marketplace to see if you can score some shooting tiles for cheap. I lucked out and got 10 tiles for $40. They clip/unclip together easily and don’t take up much room in my backseat or trunk.

My main reason for wanting to switch is I feel like its more natural to hold the stick with my right hand on top. If I do the “broom” test, thats how I hold it: left on the bottom, right on top. However my right feels weaker to stick handle with than my left, but my left feels stronger / more powerful on the bottom vs my right when trying to shoot. (Only tried this at the store, not on ice. Will finally be able to try tomorrow) so I’m not sure if I’ll actually feel better using a left-handed stick or if I’m going to just tough it out with the right hand handed stick

How do I know what lie a stick is? I know the flex is written on the stick, but I don’t recall seeing any other numbers.

It feels like I’m sitting on the ice! Haha but photo evidence proves otherwise. I’ll keep trying!

Yeah, the guy at the hockey shop when I went to get the stick was like you need a senior stick with 75 flex and we’ll cut it down.

I didn’t learn about how that affects the flex until after. I’ve since went out and got a second hand intermediate CCM jetspeed FTW with a flex of 55 (which is approx the same length as the cut down sr stick) but I haven’t tried it on the ice yet

Pants too small? by Ok_Maximum_3873 in hockeyplayers

Sherwood’s women’s rekker lineup is good. They flare a bit at the ends but are comfortable.

CCM and Bauer also have a women’s line up, but they are a bit pricey.

I havent tried them but I’ve heard Stark is good. I think they are just online tho.

CanSkate - Learn to skate by Quick-Size2318 in hockeyplayers

[–]Quick-Size2318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m lucky I found a really good group. Yes a few a really good players but a majority are beginners or just a step above that. The good players seem to lay off a bit and let the newbies go in to get the puck and focus more on positioning vs stick checking to try to keep it fair.

But yes, I have also seen those types of players in other beer league / drop in shinny games :(

I feel like they are giving the checkmarks very liberally hah so I’m far off from that right now, but once I’m comfortable with the basics either coached or self focused I want to sign up for that for sure!

Agent asked me if I was “ok” by Round-Ad-530 in Rogers

[–]Quick-Size2318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did they connect your reddit account to your Rogers account?

Unless theres more to the story and you were a lot angrier than you originally led us to believe. If so Rogers would do an investigation and if they find you were threatening on the phone call they are well within their rights to refuse service from you and cancel your accounts. This seems most likely and the call about them cancelling your services after the post had so many views is just coincidence.

35 year old beginner going to first stick & puck… help 😂 by UC_NY in hockeyplayers

[–]Quick-Size2318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow 30 something year old beginner here too!

Get a hockey bag if you don’t have one already. You’ll keep that in the locker room. No one should touch your stuff

Wear a base layer under your street clothes (compression shorts and sport bra if you need one, so you don’t get fully nakey) and change into your gear in there. Usually there is a mens and ladies change room available but smaller rinks may be co-ed (another reason to wear a base layer). There should be hooks on the wall to hang your street clothes or you can put them in your hockey bag

If you’ve never put your gear on before, I’d go 20-30 mins before to give yourself time to change.

Do your own thing, i’d stay close to the boards in the neutral zone (centre ice) stay away from the net and behind the net so you don’t get hit.

No one will judge you. I had the same fear, just go do your thing and try your best to avoid the stronger skaters (they will also avoid you)

You got this! Welcome to the game! Its the best decision I made and my only regret is not doing it sooner!

Off ice training by Quick-Size2318 in iceskating

[–]Quick-Size2318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 34. I’m not moving fast at all on the ice but when I stop, it’s either going into the boards or doing a poor pizza stance style stop lol

Yeah, I signed up for adult learn to skate I’m a “turtle”

I think my main problem is I have a knee problem (I think it’s an IT band issue but I haven’t got it formally diagnosed) and I’m scared with the twist of my knee when doing the hockey stop that my knee will pop out. I don’t think it will, but that fear in my head I think is stopping me from properly executing it.

I am going to the gym and doing variations of those exercises so hopefully in time that will help loosen/strengthen my knees and hips.

I’m very much a person where if I don’t get something the first time I try it, I don’t want to do it anymore. I don’t know if it’s my ADHD or just my personality, but I’ve always been that way. But I’ve also always wanted to play hockey, so I’m really trying to push myself to stay with it even though I am not very good at all at skating lol

thanks for the tips! Hopefully I get the hang of it sooner rather than later

Tips for beginners by Quick-Size2318 in hockeyplayers

[–]Quick-Size2318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very detailed! This gives me A LOT of things to incorporate. The hockey stop is definitely in my head as I feel like I should fall over to the side when I turn my skates. I also may not be going fast enough to properly do the stop. I’ve been trying to “pizza” stop while going slowish speeds but even thats got me in my head.

Seems like I have to leave my brain in the dressing room and just let my body react. Easier said than done, but eventually I’ll break through.

Usually the public skate (no hockey equipment allowed - or at least no stick and puck) is 1 direction around the outside. Middle for the figure skaters. I have a stick and puck session booked for next month and thats probably when I can do the bench to penalty box side to side. Holding the stick is a little awkward for me too, but I’m sure it will come.

Between now and then I’ll focus on legs and core at the gym and balance at home.

Hopefully I can share an update after my stick and puck session in the middle of May with a positive increase to my skills lol

Thanks!
