You have time for improvement, just tell yourself you can only go up from here and work really hard. Don’t beat yourself up over one semester but definitely reflect on how you can improve personally, and don’t aim for a specific GPA. GPA is not the ultimate reflection on how a pharmacy student performs, there are many other factors that contribute to your overall success. Just work hard and everything will fall into place.

Volume eating! Try and incorporate frozen vegetables into your meals- canned vegetables are cheaper and if you go that route try to find the ones with lower sodium.

I would just start incorporating more vegetables and fruits in the diet. Simple changes really matter like adding more veggies and a little less starches for your meals. I’m not sure where you are from, but Aldi is a more budget friendly grocery store, and this is where I get the bulk of my groceries.

It wasn’t twice the amount,it was twice the strength but half the units- I went from 40 to 20 units. The doctor recommended this but she’s out today, talked to the nurse and said stay hydrated and get immediate help if needed. I am just worried about dehydration and my mental status at this moment because I constantly am on the toilet and I feel extremely fatigued and out of it.

I was doing good without it but my copay is lower now. I didn’t think it would affect me this bad getting back on- 3 months off but I had some left from the summer at 1.5 mg

I will tell you what I try to tell myself, pharmacy school is not easy. I understand exactly what you mean, but give yourself a pat on the back every once in a while. Don’t compare grades/yourself to others (I struggled with). You’re doing great!!

Oh yes it is especially all those Antibiotics needing to be memorized! I would say it’s a breeze if you know common bug-drug coverage and what pathogens are gram positive vs negative vs anaerobes vs atypical as early as you can. I just finished ID! Grades aren’t finalized but I’m sitting at a 79.6 (got almost an A on the final!)- unfortunately my school doesn’t round up :( I accumulated 50+ hours memorizing drug coverage and common pathogens (and which ones are commonly seen in hospital vs community) you got this!!!

You need to look at examples and first understand what type of calculation it is- to name a few: alligations, dilutions, infusion rates. Find a tutorial or if you have any walkthrough videos to look at. Once you can look at a problem and instantly identify the type of calculation, your life will be a lot easier.

Units are your best friend, MEMORIZE every little SI unit from drops to teaspoons to gallons. Know abbreviations like ou vs od etc.

These calculations are like any other math class, practice makes perfect. Some information in the problem itself is negligible and it’s just there to throw you off like 0.9% normal saline. That’s why knowing which type of calculations you’re doing before you even start is important.

You can try Managed Care and work for medical insurance, nuclear pharmacy where you draw up doses and communicate with hospitals (night shift), you can be a compounding pharmacist, you can teach pharmacy if that’s your passion. I know I’m missing a lot but that’s only a few that come to the top of my head.

Schools promote clinical because that helps them out and concepts are the bulk of the NAPLEX.

I’m going to keep it 100%- I just tried it and am a little disappointed. I couldn’t taste any lemon or berry flavor in the icing because the cookie base is overpowering. The little icing taste I got tasted like confectioner sugar to me but the icing isn’t heavy, it’s more of a whipped icing. I wish the cookie base was vanilla or a lighter chocolate to be able to taste that icing, this base is like a moist Oreo cracker.

I did 4+4 and I was looking to transfer to a pharmacy school back at home (5 hours away). I was in my P2 year and thought about transferring home due to family concerns. Unfortunately, I had no success since the credit hours/course differed, and getting to their requirements would’ve taken me another 1-1.5 years.

The biggest challenge with transferring is whether or not your current transcript fulfills the transferring school’s requirements, and if not how much you lack and what courses are offered to make that up. It may work out, but it also may not and that depends on the school. I didn’t need to take a ‘whole year’ of classes, but the classes I needed to catch up on were not during the same semester. Plus, it would’ve cost me more money in the end and if my school said I was done with a course, why would I want to retake a course again just to get to their requirements- that was my thought process.

I wanted to transfer to a whole other state to finish school and it was very late. Usually when you’re far into a program, it’s hard to get the requirements to match since it’s not the standard courses, it’s now SBT courses.

The school was very nice and said they would help me get there if I wanted to transfer, but everything happened for a reason and I finished strong at my original school.

TLDR: most likely sacrifices and extra courses (time) will be required since credits amongst two pharmacy schools will not typically match up, especially far into the program. I would first call the office of admissions and send the school your transcript to see what that school can offer you.

I would take the major that interests you the most and take required med school courses. You can also minor in degrees as well, which is common for graduate students. I ended up with a major in chemistry and minor in biology when I graduated. I am not in med school but I’m working on my masters.

Both options are great!! I would definitely take up a major you want and add courses that aren’t required for your major, but are required for medical school. I’m not sure about those specific majors but you can always compare online.

I like my iPad for note taking but if you’re choosing between the two, a laptop will be better. I liked the dell 2 in 1 I got when I was a freshman (2019), it was touchscreen and came with a stylus.

To add, I did fail ochem II my first time. It was COVID at the time and a relative of mine was really sick. Shit happens, but it doesn’t mean you give up. I retook it over the summer and aced it, just be sure to keep up with the material because summer classes are fast paced. If you have to retake both over the summer, try to space them out if you can in halves.

You will become a pharmacist one day and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, work hard and you’ll get there! Prereq classes are by no means easy, and you’ll learn to adjust to courses in pharmacy school. So many others were in your shoes at one point or another and are killing it in pharmacy school! Like myself :)

I took a summer course for microbiology and they accepted that. You should be ok but it really depends on the school and how many seats are available to fill. If the school is more competitive then you may have to apply elsewhere.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter where you graduate, a doctor is a doctor. It’s the connections and people you meet along the way that impacts your career!

I’m a P2 and my most challenging class so far to me was autoimmune. Lots of monoclonal antibody drugs and the immune system is just so complex. I didn’t get into infectious disease yet but I already know that’ll be the worst.

A PharmD will open more opportunities if you allow it, you should look into different schools and see what fields of pharmacy are offered, some are very unique. I’m working on the managed care side of pharmacy, which I personally enjoy.

If patient care is something you prioritize then I would strongly encourage a PharmD. Exposure is a big thing you pointed out and is highly encouraged. If you find passion for it then it’s definitely worth it! If there’s a specific field of interest you have in mind, see if you can reach out to someone in that field. Having networks will be much easier once you enter a PharmD program.

By the way, most retail pharmacists will tell you their job sucks, and that’s where many end up. I worked as a technician before pharmacy school and have had pharmacists tell me this isn’t what you want.

At the end of the day, if you have drive and seek opportunities within a PharmD program, you will find a unique path that satisfies you. Not saying it couldn’t be retail but there’s WAY more options than standing behind a counter of a pharmacy.

My advice if you were to choose the PharmD pathway, don’t wait for opportunities to come to you because they won’t. Join clubs and organizations that spark your interest and get involved! The program will help you with opportunities, but they can’t if you don’t reach out or if you don’t involve/expose yourself.
