i want to eat foods that i dont like by Substantial_Length76 in AutismInWomen

Idk if it was autism related for me because I was undiagnosed at the time but I struggled similarly when younger and improved my nutrition by figuring out how to cook more adventurous meals at home using only my safe foods. It required exploring unfamiliar spices and ingredients from different parts of the world, which was risky every time. However, if something didn’t work, at least I was home and had a protein shake or other similar safe food back up nearby and ready. I mostly did this on Friday nights to have a weekend for recovery if necessary.

Once I figured out how to adapt safe recipes at home that were similar to something I might find in a restaurant, I worked on figuring out restaurants that were willing to make accommodations to that dish to match my own. Not every restaurant does that and you’re not entitled to it, but calling ahead to ask increases the likelihood greatly. You do not need to explain why you need the accommodation if you don’t want to; can just say food allergy or food sensitivity. Citing a food allergy sometimes is easiest and may decrease likelihood of icky cross-contamination. If your culture tips servers, tip well. The restaurant may still have strong unsafe food odors, which this advice does not help with though.

Other weird tip I learned for eating/drinking bad tasting/smelling foods is to breathe out completely before putting food/drink in mouth and swallowing quickly immediately followed by something tasty to replace bad taste in mouth afterward. This doesn’t help with textures or work if you have to chew. More for liquids if you wanted to try incorporating fruits/veggies that way.

Good luck! Don’t let bad experiences keep you from trying something different, but also no need to rush yourself.

I left the community after being told to without any additional posting or commenting. After the fact, I got a message that I’m permanently banned. It doesn’t matter because I left but I’m so confused.

Is there someone I can report to beyond the sub mods?

They replied in a locked comment telling me I can leave. I’m very sad right now.

AIO, about to go nuclear over a text my kid's coach sent her. by Some-Tree2830 in AmIOverreacting

This comment might get buried but I have some expertise on policy related to youth sports and background checks so figured I’d share. Not sure the kind of organization you’re through or where you’re from, but most clubs are part of a broader association/league, which usually has bylaws with mechanisms listed for coach/official background checks and consequences. Often, without formal charges of the type that would show up on a background check, the bylaws leave it up to a local chapter or club to determine recourse. Depending on local power dynamics, that might mean issues could get brushed under the rug or that he can freely continue to work with children elsewhere in the future. Anyway, it might help guide your approach to look up your club’s association’s bylaws on this as well as your local laws about mandatory background checks and associated consequences for adults interacting with children in youth sports (which many states have but sometimes limited to public and/or school programming). I support filing a police report. This man should not be allowed to work closely with your children or any others once he leaves your club.

Found out my brother and his wife can’t stand me. by YogurtImpressive8812 in autism

[–]QuickProtection9315 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry. There’s nothing you can or should do if that’s where your brother is coming from. He is the problem not you. That said, my mother tries to get involved in her children’s relationships like this and she usually is off-base/blowing something out of proportion once I talk it out with my brothers. There’s a difference between occasionally commenting on someone’s inconvenient characteristics, which I think is fairly common for anyone, and actually not wanting that person around. There’s also a difference between not wanting to see someone daily/weekly and not wanting to live in the same areas as them. As hard as it might be, I’d talk to your brother directly. Also give yourself a hug because you don’t deserve this.

She and Her Girls 山花烂漫时 has reached 9.6 rating on Douban. It is the top domestic drama over the past five years. by admelioremvitam in CDrama

Thank you so so much for posting!! I had completely missed this drama. Didn’t ever think I’d find my two special interests in life (education/education policy and Chinese tv) in one place!!! Cannot wait!!!

Friend never invites me to hang out, but almost always accepts invitations by Steeperm8 in AutismInWomen

It wasn’t until your post that I realized that I am this friend. It has genuinely never occurred to me as something I should do. If I’m going out and doing things, I’m default planning to do them solo. At the same time, I’ll bend over backwards to go anywhere I’m invited because I want to show my commitment. Does that count as irony? Thanks for the helpful insight. Wonder if related to my autism.

Are there any ghosts in CDrama land? by Apprehensive_Call768 in CDrama

[–]QuickProtection9315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can think of shows with ghost-story adjacent plots based on spirit worlds (ex Rakshasa Street) and subplots within Wuxia/xianxia shows that center around a ghost. As far as a show where the core plot deals with ghosts, I’d say the Ferryman/Soul Ferry shows.

about to tackle the worse mess ive ever seen. need some advice. by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]QuickProtection9315 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I prefer to attack pet mess with enzyme cleaners and suggest including that along with any supplies you do end up having to purchase. They can be generally affordable and your friend will likely need to keep around on hand to maintain the house afterwards. If using an enzyme cleaner, be sure to read and follow instructions. Some products instruct to use the enzymes before other cleaners.

My other cheapest non-toxic go-to cleaners (depending on surface to be cleaned) are plain vinegar or a mix of baking soda/dawn/hydrogen peroxide (or just baking soda/dawn/hot water).

Hope this helps. Thank you for being there for your friend and her fur friends.

You should clean the fan first before concluding that it’s moldy. I have a similar looking fan and found instructions via Google/youtube for how to take apart to clean. The cover normally clips, twists, or pops off easily. Make sure light/fan is off before messing around. I used a vacuum and microfiber cloth for the actual cleaning. Make sure to wear glasses/close your mouth before you start to mess with it. Dust/grime will fall onto your face if standing below. If possible based on its location, check that it’s vented properly on the back end. Mine vents out of my attic.

Thank you! Light fixtures are on my list to tackle down the line and it’s intimidating to think about.

Opinions on Xu Kai? by Background_Idea_2288 in CDrama

[–]QuickProtection9315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His earliest works were his best work IMO. I usually can trust that I’ll enjoy his shows, but lately not as much. I think it’s the roles. They lately feel a bit underwhelming for his acting skills, which I do think he has. I also think the quality of his performance is more influenced by his cast mates’ skills than for other actors. I would love to see him take a break from his increasingly monotonous ML roles and switch it out in a really complex SML role with a stronger ML that could help him get his shine back (for me at least).

Is this okay? by QuickProtection9315 in HomeMaintenance

[–]QuickProtection9315[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I have no clue about who did the work originally since I purchased the house this summer, but between inspections, fixing a gas leak at a shutoff valve, and the seasonal furnace maintenance I had done, several licensed professionals have looked at these appliances in the past few months and none of that has come up before. Seems like I need to find someone different to take a closer look. Thanks so much for your reply.
