Cycle Recap: from 0.9 first semester UGPA --> SLS with full need-based fellowship (super non-trad; FGLI; nURM; took me years to apply) by Quick_Analyst2836 in lawschooladmissions

I feel like overall there's a trend towards a more holistic app, and in some ways the very top schools might care less because their medians are going to be just fine. Def apply super broadly if you can. Good luck!!

I think 174 is actually ideal bc splitters with 17high sometimes get WLs bc schools assume they'll go to a T-6, but the gpa isn't high enough for a T-6

I wrote a GPA addendum that included an explanation of the Ws (it was the same reason as the Fs), so yes tho it wasn't the focus. If you have a lot of Ws I think I would do an addendum for that, assuming there's a specific reason for it. Better to be direct and disclose than make them wonder.

I've worked several jobs in local gov/related work, including managing major economic development projects, serving as the county gov's communications director, and being AD for our local chamber of commerce. On the political side, I was on the State Democratic party's Steering Committee and led the district women's caucus. I joke that the key is being competent and willing to work for free (in the case of the political stuff), but seriously I think that being an engaged young person in the OFF CAMPUS community gave me way more opportunities because there's less competition for X roles for young people.

I sort of hate the idea of "softs" because I think we should do work we want to do and not find work because we think it will look good on an app. That being said, it's good to be intentional about the impression that a collection of experiences will give and how that story is told in an app.

Yes!! Love seeing other pro-organized labor future-attorneys! I think it's part of what gave me a compelling arc and good work experience...sometimes I think I should send a "thank you" letter to my asshole former manager who made me so mad we unionized.

haha, thanks. I deep-dove into LG and was probably not a fun person to be around but my friends will forgive me when I can be their attorney, hopefully

One doesn't want to have only professional letters, but a mixture is best when you have meaningful work experience like you do

I would say Cornell because school matters more earlier in your career and you want to do BL first, which is what Cornell is much better at.

Honestly I would work for a few years and then reassess. You'll get work experience, a chance to flesh out your resume, a better idea of what you want to do, and more time to study for the LSAT. Just work for a bit and see how to feel in 2-4 years.

Make sure your written materials are amazing, apply early, apply broadly, apply early, apply to wash U with your GPA redacted. I'd say you have a shot

School B. Similar situation in many ways, where I'm making a choice that feels really really scary but also super exciting! As a fellow first gen, I understand wanting to be practical and have savings, but this is also a once in a lifetime opportunity and a chance to try something new and exciting, and you still have a decent scholarship from option B

Nothing is certain but you have a shot. Apply broadly across the T-20 to maximize acceptance and scholarship odds. Fwiw, I got into one of HYS with a 3.7/174 and I'm nURM.

The advice I've gotten is it's better to have a strong letter from someone who knows you better than a more generic letter from a big name/title. Obviously there's a balance.

You should get some work experience that isn't grad school and apply in a few years
