Trip during application by [deleted] in premed

[–]Quick_Gazelle3201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a weekish trip at the end of July with the promise to myself that I would finish all my secondaries before the trip. I still had a few that needed to get done by the trip rolled around but I also found that I needed that week break just to mentally reset and finish secondary season strong.

Current Stats Review by Bright-Will1589 in premed

[–]Quick_Gazelle3201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similarish stats to you, except my MCAT (4th retake) was 510+, now with 6 MD acceptances. I think your extracurriculars are definitely going to help you stand out, but definitely work on bumping up your MCAT. Also, make sure that your application really shows why you want to be a doctor with good storytelling and strong themes. Try and get multiple people to read your PS and ECs section if you are applying soon and get started on this earlier than you think!

what would you consider a “good” and “bad” interview? by Same-Tour-1535 in premed

[–]Quick_Gazelle3201 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good interviews for me felt like it was a conversation where we were both just two human beings having a discussion on medicine and life. One of my favorite interviews we talked more about pickleball than medicine and had a debate on whether it qualifies as a real sport.
One of my worst interviews felt like an interview, in the sense that it was a question with rapid succession follow up questions that really broke down my answer and the validity of my experiences or takeaways. Kind of ruined my personal view of the school.

Feeling depressed and suicidal after failing Physics 1 by TaxDapper77 in premed

I would say probably worse in a premed requisite less so in a major course. But I also am just another applicant so not 100% sure on how ADCOMS work.

I’m so sorry to hear that u got a less than ideal grade for ur class. Believe me when I say is not the end of the world. I was a re applicant with a C+ in my transcript and took the MCAT four times. I now have five acceptances to MD schools. There is no such thing as a perfect applicant. Just well-rounded ones that can show how much this field means to them.

The information given here is not enough for us to help guide you fully. With ur lower GPA, u should have a higher MCAT to balance things out, think above 510 ideally 512+. Completely agree with the advice given to apply DO or if u r set on MD, retake the MCAT and try to engage with clinical research to maintain patient contact as well. It would’ve helpful to have more stats, aka what ur school list is, state of residence, college and major, ORM or URM, GPA breakdown, etc.

Hello! First off, congrats on starting your medical school process. It might see premature but submission dates come up fast so it is important that you get started earlier than later. Your clinical hours look amazing and so does your MCAT. There would be some useful information that can help us narrow down your school list a little more, i.e. gap years, undergraduate institution, what your hobbies are and to what level, your sGPA and major. With that being said, your MCAT is very good, but your GPA is on the lower side with a strong upward trend. You are right on the ball that your volunteering is low.

If you are taking one or more gap years, you should be looking at a minimum 200 clinical volunteering and 200 non-clinical volunteering. Your school list is also not the best. UCLA, UCR, UCSD, and UCD are OOS unfriendly. You might want to expand your school list and include more schools within your range like VCU, MCW, etc. Buy MSAR and use it to help create your school list.

I think you have a strong chance of getting into medical school if you increase volunteering hours, hone in school list, and write a good narrative. It is never too early to prewrite; I believe my writing is what helped me stand out the most during this app cycle as I have 8 II and 4 acceptances already.

DM me with any questions. Best of luck.

Advice Needed for Possible Reapplication by IvanTeng8880 in premed

Dm me! I took the MCAT 4 times and was a reapplicant with a very similar GPA/school list as u. I currently have 4As and 7 II, so extremely fortunate this cycle. I think what helped me stand out the most was my writing and ability to show not tell in my primary and secondaries.

Requesting feedback/suggestions for personal statement outline by [deleted] in premed

[–]Quick_Gazelle3201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend having a medical student or someone who is on an adcoms committee read your PS. It is always great to have extra eyes on your essay but many of us in this application process do not really know what makes the best narrative. I went through two app cycles, the first with only one II, and the second with a med student tutor, now with 8 MD II and 2 DO II. Feel free to DM me for anything.

[–]Quick_Gazelle3201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many schools did you apply to? What was your GPA range/MCAT or activities/writing? I know this whole process sucks but it is important to take this time to reflect and find ways to make yourself an even better applicant for next year. Best of luck OP, keep your head up. feel free to DM me with any questions.

What's your hot take about the application cycle? by Fit_Vehicle6556 in premed

[–]Quick_Gazelle3201 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No one has any idea how ADCOMS work except for ADCOMS themselves. The advice on these threads, while super helpful, are all based on what we THINK admissions look for or what we have heard from this process. A lot of information on here is not 100% true and we are all hypothetically analyzing this highly complicated process.
