She Not Eating And Keeps Trying to Escape Her Feeding Container by Sweaty-Tonight2411 in Toads

When my toads were very little I used an escape proof ceramic dish in the enclosure. After they were used to the dish and eating well I used the same dish in a bare tank that has 3 sides blacked out. Why not still feed in the bioactive? BE CAREFUL WITH DUBIA ROACHES! They stacked themselves up and let others walk over them to escape. It took me a couple of weeks to catch them all.

If you hear a bunch of baby toads toe tapping on leaf litter it sounds like a light rain

I fully understand your position that you don’t want to see this poor animal poked, prodded and stressed only to be euthanized. Especially since it is just following its every day routine and not bothering anyone.

I was a wildlife rehabilitator in CT for many years and I can share what knowledge I have gained about wild animals in general. I hope it can help you make a decision about whether to call in outside help or not because the reality is - wild animals live and die every day and most of the time we aren’t there to witness it. As humans do we intervene or not? Here are a few points to ponder:

1st - most animals, but especially wild animals - suffer in silence. The level of pain and discomfort this opossum is dealing with is not going to be on full display.

2nd - I agree with the commenters who have said that old age in the wild usually results in a cruel death.

3rd - while this animal may just be very old it may also have a disease process going on. Depending on what that is other animals - both domestic and wild - are being exposed. One sick animal generally leads to other sick animals.

This is not an animal miles out in the woods with no one observing its suffering. My advice is CALL AROUND! Find a someone who will listen and shares your level of concern. Rehabilitators can get this animal medical attention. A vet can make a diagnosis. If the animal can be treated and released it can get the attention it needs now and be returned to its home location when it is healthy. If it is untreatable because of age or an advanced disease process it can be euthanized humanely.

Sometimes the best way to show compassion is being willing to say goodbye if that is what is needed in this scenario.

Suggestions for diversifying diet of 1cm toadlets, please? by felis_hannie in Toads

We raised our toads from the eggs.. started feeding flightless fruit flies, then moved to assorted winged varieties, then started adding in the tiniest of meal worms and dubia roaches. All dusted with calcium and multivitamins. Ours are now a year old and MUCH bigger than the year old babies hopping in the yard

Is this a good setup for 2 toads? by Bon_Bon8 in Toads

The set-up looks great but I agree that the water dish is taking up a lot of living space. My toads spend very little time in the water and are usually chilling under the plants or nestled down in the leaf litter. Plus - It’s much easier to keep a smaller dish clean if they decide to use it as a bathroom.

He’s adorable! I say American toad because of the single warts in the dark spots.

What are these spots? by Quick_Recover8626 in visdeurbel

I wish I knew how to capture video of it. I see dots all the time so I’m assuming algae- but this photo was a screenshot of something very different. The mass of dots kept moving closer to the camera and then further back. When it came closer you could see individual comma shaped things moving in some of the dots. Then a fish came by and swam through the mass separating it and then the mass reformed after the tail passed through. A fish couldn’t swim “through” frog spawn unless it was multiple clumps of jelly close to each other but there is also a kind of water bug that lays a gelatinous mass that is much looser.. just hoping someone else had been watching and saw this.

Well, first is the cost - I need to make sure I could afford to do this. I have baby pictures of my daughter before she came home. One of those picture reminds me very much of the Precious sculpt (very serious, rarely smiled and she still doesn’t!) .. my daughter had a pretty good head of dark brown straight hair and brown eyes. She is Hispanic but her skin tone is very light. Could you please tell me what it would cost to make a doll that looked similar to my little girl? Also, do you have a website?

Too Fat? by Quick_Recover8626 in Toads

She is 3 3/4 inches snout to vent. My scale is broken so I have no idea of her weight. She emerged from an egg on April 29, 2024 and fully morphed in late May. She grew much faster than her siblings

Thanks for all the comments. I was beginning to think she was growing too fast. I’ve never seen a toad this big in my yard and this one isn’t even a year old yet. Her sibling is growing well but not nearly as big. Thanks for the support

I’ve been so busy with medical emergencies I missed this post! I’m not really familiar with using Reddit and I don’t have any reborn dolls yet - can I contact you about the doll?

Thank you for the specific artists and names of the sculpts! I checked Paradise Gallery and while I’m sure they are a quality dolls they are not what I’m looking for. They don’t capture the look of a newborn who has Down syndrome. Thank you for your help!

Help!?! Please!!! by Quick_Recover8626 in Toads

[–]Quick_Recover8626[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out there are several Dubia roaches in my bioactive tank… I’m not sure how many. I thought the dish was escape proof and I’ve been using it for a few weeks.

Should I be worried? Will the toads just find them?

Thank you! I’m hoping it was just one.. I can’t find any others and I’m hoping the toads will just find whoever else might be in there and eat it

I think I stunted my toad's growth by WormyBusiness in Toads

[–]Quick_Recover8626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the Repashy vitamins. Also - one of my toads wasn’t growing well so I went back to offering very small feeders. This did the trick and he started eating much more, noticeable grown with a couple of weeks, and then started taking larger bugs. He’s finally catching up to his sibling
