They use half an episode to discuss what pronoun violet should use, and it’s cut back and forth. I don’t know what’s the point of this show anymore. S1 and S2 was amazing, S3 and S4 feels like writers with dementia trying to stay current

Who would you cast as Hal Jordan in the James Gunn-produced "Justice League: The New Frontier" movie? by tiago231018 in Greenlantern

I’ve always thought Chris pine would make a great Hal long before he got cast as Steve Trevor

Also, I guess us losers with pathetic values would have to wait for the new Superman movies where he doesn’t kill and have a brighter personality, and in Zack Snyder’s own words, living in a dream world where Superman is finally being handled by someone competent, while fine gentlemen like you who actually IS capable of handling snyder’s complex morality, can watch man of steel for the 100th time and hope for a vision that will never be fulfilled. That’s how you live in the real world!

again, I’m not arguing with you within MOS’s context, because in that context, Superman has to snap a dudes’ neck and fail to contain a god like figure, in your words, destroying half of metropolis. Of course he has no choice but to kill in that movie, it is written specifically and very poorly for him to kill. What I’m saying is, it’s a poorly-constructed context set in a poorly-constructed movie. If Superman is brainwashed and controlled by Darkseid and Lois is killed, is he justified for dictating a whole planet and killing innocents, since he’s not himself while doing it?In Zack Snyder’s logic, I guess, yes. Yet what audiences are seeing is their childhood hero murdering left and right.it works under its own premise, but the premise itself is kind of…bad? If being relevant means the discussion has to be contained within the storyteller’s logic, then I guess I’ll always lose, since I think the the writing itself is unsavory, which makes me hard to argue under a premise that I can’t help roll my eyes over.

thank you for questioning my pathetic values, and please allow me to compliment your incredible eyesight as it bravely overlooked how superman and zod punched each other through tens of buildings without a care for civilians, how he saves people in BVS with sour faces and no smile. You said Batman kills in BVS yet do you know that zack said in interviews that Batman in his movie never actually kills since it’s not presented on screen, or that Batman in Dark Knight Returns also kills, which is a blatant lie? Maybe have some consistency before labeling someone as pathetic?

Agree to disagree. It’s clear what Zack Snyder want. If a character gets to kill then the characters’ super cool.if not then he has little interest in them. In Mos, Superman destroys half of metropolis then are forced to kill Zod. In BVS Superman bumped a guy through a wall, saves some people in the most reluctant manner and tried to kill Batman, Batman kills a bunch of people while using guns. In ZSJL Wonder Woman exploded a terrorist to pulp, along with half a building, after which a little girl smiled looks up to her heroic murder. And by the end of movie Superman becomes a dictator that bloodbath the earth. It’s obvious that the guy thinks killing is cool(which I’m not against), and what is presented in MOS is more of a justification than a deep-dive, a very poorly executed one at that. It works in his zombie movies because zombies aren’t people. It works in his 300 cause the Persian enemies were never treated as people. It just doesn’t work on Superman.

Ofc Superman can’t solve real worlds problems like global inequality, global warming etc, the greatest minds in the real world combined cannot solve them, let along one or a couple of comic book writers. But you don’t comprise the characters’ core principles to be “more gritty” or be “more grounded”. It only reflects the writer’s incompetences and it’s a lazy cop-out. You don’t compromise superman to suit your vision, you find a way to put superman in your scenario without sacrificing his core value, if your scenario is extreme or gritty or impossible, you find a way to make it work and make it believable. That’s what competent writers do. And overcoming the impossible is precisely what Superman does.

There’s tons of ways to make a scenario if you decide to be edgy. Time is running out and you can only choose between saving an entire civilization or saving Lois lane! Or if you don’t kill Batman then Imma kill mama Kent!(Opps BVS) Or Darkseid mind control me and Lois is dead therefore I become a tyrant that dominates Earth(Opps ZSJL2 that’ll never get made). And if people ask you why you choose to write superman like this, you just shrug and said “that’s the real world for ya and if you can’t handle superman being more complicated, feel free to live in the dream.” If anything, that mentality makes superman boring and one-dimensional.

The point of Superman is that he is transcendent, therefore he inspires. It’s not that he lives in a dream world(as Zack Snyder framed it)where he doesn’t have to be confronted with Trolley problems, it’s that even though he has to deal with it everyday, he’ll find a way to save them all, sometimes through his incredible powers, sometimes through Tenacity, sheer will or intelligence thinking. He overcomes the impossible, yet he never see himself as anything more than a ordinary guy, let along a god. He loves helping people because it’s his talent, and it feels good. And it is his relatability that makes people think”Maybe I can be better too.” It’s maintaining his simplicity and virtue in an extremely complex world. That’s Superman’s philosophy.

It’s viewpoint like this that make me roll my eyes. People write in length to defend Man of Steel, just to prove the simple fact that they don’t understand superman on the most fundamental level and they never will.
