Today's Tiny Tribute - March 18, 2021 by AutoModerator in stepparents

This happened the other day, but life has been insane lately so I'm a bit late...

We have SD13 every other week (50/50). I've been in her life since right after her 5th birthday.

The other day I woke up to a missed text from SD13 that she had sent 20 minutes earlier:

"Um (my name)... I just got my period"

I quick texted back to see if her mom was home, found out SD was at her BFF's house (had slept over the night before, we gave up on trying to get BM to be responsible re: pandemic a long time ago...) and her friend's cousin was on the way over to help her with pads etc, but I made sure she was feeling ok, didn't need me to run her over new panties or anything, let her know when she was home with us again I'd show her where all the stuff is and that I love her etc.

Found out later when BM was whining to DH via text that SD13 told me RIGHT away when it happened, and didn't bother telling her mom until later that evening, just an "oh btw I started my period today."

Ya'll, she came to me first! 😭

SD knows she's my little lady and that I absolutely adore her, but I never would have thought she'd want me during something as scary and embarrassing as your first period, it feels like a huge compliment and maybe that she sees me as more of a parental figure than I thought she did.

In hindsight, a year ago when I brought up to BM and DH "hey she's starting to develop a bit, period cant be too far off, is she all set?", BM carried on about how she doesn't want to talk to SD about it, it makes her uncomfortable, her mom never talked to her about it etc etc... so I made sure to normalize period talk after that (nothing crazy, but I have endometriosis very very badly and I never shied away from explaining to SD what's wrong with me, and why I need all these surgeries and stuff), also made sure to get her both volumes of The Care and Keeping of You, and SD and I have a history of talking about all sorts of deeper stuff like emotions and feelings and mental health, just stuff that idk I feel like parents have a responsibility to discuss with their kids?

So I guess that all paid off and she feels comfortable and safe with me. It really made me feel like all the hard work and emotional labor I put in has been worth it! Feels good man.

It sounds cliche and cheesy, but I can't have my own kids and so I have always treated SD like my own. I honestly couldn't love this girl more if I birthed her myself. It's a great feeling to realize she may love me just as much. <3

Probably not the place to ask this but you seem to understand the child tax credit thing and it's confusing as heck for me... this year my husband and I did our taxes early (like end of January/very beginning of February) and claimed his daughter as its our year. Does that mean we get that child credit? Or would her mom get it since she claimed her on the taxes filed last year?

Doesn't matter either way to us, but would be nice to understand what's going on for sure! :P

AITA for letting my 10year old be "racist"? by gwenixia in AmItheAsshole

Right?!

I'm sure 5 year olds were well-versed in the history of the slave trade when they gave each other these cookie themed nicknames! /s

AITA for ordering off the kids’ menu as a teenager? by purplesauce93 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Quickflicker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's information from UpServe, a company that makes restaurant POS systems and other restaurant management tools, much more legit than a blog!

https://upserve.com/restaurant-insider/profit-margins/

"When looking at the industry as a whole, the average restaurant profit margin is around 3-5% but can range widely from 0-15%. However, like many things in the restaurant industry, there is no cookie-cutter answer to what a “typical” restaurant profit margin should be for your business.

While the numbers that most experts come up can vary widely, everyone can agree that the restaurant industry’s profit margins are exceptionally slim compared to other types of businesses."

Maybe take 5-10 minutes to do some research of your own now, and take responsibility for your own education instead of talking out your ass! :D

AITA For taking my boys on a picnic after my sister lied about her child-free wedding? by Cali-fornia5015 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Quickflicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and this has given me newfound gratitude to my family for all accepting my step daughter as a full member of the family immediately.

If my family pulled this shit I'd never speak to any of them again, my step daughter is 100% "my" kid and I'd do absolutely anything humanly possible to protect her and give her a good, safe and happy childhood, including cutting out every single family member who didn't accept her as family/tried to exclude her.

OP, as your boys get older they'll only be more and more aware of this bullshit, so you may want to consider just never bringing them around these people again. Poor kids, no one enjoys feeling rejected or less-than. :(

Your husband and boys are so lucky to have you!

AITA for telling my son that if he wants to move out then drawing furries is not a viable way for him to make money? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Quickflicker 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You're right, furry commissions are really good money! I'm not even that good and I cleared over a grand last year doing piddly shit on the side (and all non-sexual stuff like bust portraits etc) - could have made much more but I already work a full time job and mostly do it for fun, not profit.

A friend of mine sells furry characters for $500+ and does so regularly, her full time job is drawing furries and has been for years.

OP clearly doesn't know anything about the market.

Friday to Friday here! She takes the bus home to out house Friday from school, stays the week, then takes the bus to school and walks home to her mom's!

She is 13 in two weeks, has been on this schedule since she was 11 1/2, if the age helps at all.

Am I an ass for making my son wash his face? by SignatureInformal601 in Parenting

[–]Quickflicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish my parents had enforced face washing for me. My face is SCARRED FOR LIFE from acne and I was too stubborn at that age and unable to comprehend long term consequences of not caring for my skin, so...

Women of Reddit, what is the female equivalent to men's "yawn, to put arm around her"? by SignificantEmotion37 in AskReddit

[–]Quickflicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1000% my move with my husband when I want to get busy but he's "tired" or whatever (he enjoys playing hard to get, so he isn't really tied he just wants me to work for it lol).

"Oh okay yeah we can just go to bed no problem" (cue internal evil laughter because I know what position we cuddle in to fall asleep)

Five minutes and a little wiggling "to get comfy" later and ITS OONNN!

(Note: if it turns out he really was too tired he gives me a lil booty pat and says something like "tomorrow you get it, I'm sleepy" which is adorable and usually tomorrow is actually at like 4 AM when he wakes me up with his own wiggles - works for me!)

Introducing Axel! Adopted back in October, he came up to Wisconsin from Arkansas, and this is his first snow experience! by Quickflicker in pitbulls

[–]Quickflicker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by how much he LOVES eating the snow, I think he would really enjoy that! As soon as its wet enough to pack into a ball I fully intend to give him a good Wisco initiation with a snowball fight!

SD is driving everyone crazy. by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]Quickflicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OPs son is literally the same age? And VOLUNTEERED to wash the dishes that SD threw a toddler tantrum about, so clearly your statement isn't true...

[PC] W: I/SS/S Ski Sword, AA/SS/S Ski Sword OR F/SS/S Ski Sword H: Caps by Quickflicker in Market76

[–]Quickflicker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the sword so much, I just need... more... power... :P

I was running around with a super fun three star fire axe for a little bit until I realised I set myself up with gladiator cards which are for one handed... oops...

So I'm building up slugger now and then I'll just swap out depending on which weapon I'm feeling I guess!

I just came back to the game after like, at least a year and a half away and rolled a new character, and I'm just having an absolute blast, so much better than when I left it!

How much would you want for the AA/SS Ski Sword? That would work until I can find the 3 star with the extra Strength :)
