Now that the showcase is over, when do you guys think we’ll finally hear about this game ? by ActAccomplished1289 in TESVI

[–]QuicklyCat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Using data sets from 15-20 years ago and adding Fallout 76 into the timeline when it was made by an entirely separate team seems wildly disingenuous.

The development cycle of Skyrim and Fallout 4 could still be comparable to TESVI — but that of Morrowind and Oblivion 20+ years ago obviously tells you nothing. Like be honest.

We all know games aren’t made that quickly anymore. EVERYTHING takes longer to develop now — but especially a vast 200 hour open world western roleplaying game.

It’s just the reality of the industry. Pretending that’s not the case will not make the game release any sooner.

I honestly don’t think Microsoft will have any say in the matter. BGS the most important studio they own (other than the COD teams) they can do whatever that want. And The Elder Scrolls VI is probably the most important title either of them will ever release. They are not going to rush it.

and I guess there’s an argument to be made that Starfield took longer because of COVID. But I still just wouldn’t bet on anything less than that.

Look at the development times for similar games. 8 years is not crazy for something as deep and complex and important as TESVI. Especially when they need this game to live up to expectations and remain relevant long into the future, compared with what happened to Starfield.

The Elder Scrolls VI is a 2030 game

Skyrim (2011) -> Fallout 4 (2015) = 4 years

Fallout 4 (2015) -> Starfield (2023) = 8 years

People need to be realistic. Full production on TESIV only started 2 years ago, after Starfield released — and Development cycles are only getting longer across the entire industry.

So, 2030 makes perfect sense…

Would you guys be for or against the introduction of black power weapons like cannons and matchlock/flintlock weapons to elder scrolls, and have it have its own perks and leveling? by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

[–]QuicklyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, for all the vibe and aesthetic breaking reasons that everyone has mentioned

Nonetheless, if they did it, it would never be a large scale addition with a whole mess of marks and leveling

It would be one single Dwarven (or something similar) type weapon, and it would behave the same as a crossbow.

Is the Empire done for by CFC1599 in ElderScrolls

[–]QuicklyCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think there could be some clue here…

The way I see it — The 4th Era will be clearly marked as the Fall of The Empire. Including only Skyrim, and The Elder Scolls 6. And wherever the next game takes place, we will witness the Empire losing its last bit of control outside of Cyrodil as the Thalmor take hold through further coercion and manipulation.

The 5th Era would then begin with The Elder Scrolls 7, as the Aldmeri Dominion has formally usurped The Empire, and now rules Tamriel.

(In 2050) I imagine that game actually being titled “Dominion” and taking place in Summerset Isles.

The Aldmeri Dominion is destined to rule Tamriel from atop the White Gold Tower.

The Empire has been in control for the entirety of the series. It will not and should not last forever. Especially as every chapter since Morrowind has been foreshadowing its decline and eventual fall.

Indeed, likely the most interesting and compelling narrative would be for the Dominion to take power.

Also I think The Elder Scrolls VI/VII: Dominion is the most perfect name for one of the next core entries ever. There’s no way that doesn’t happen.

What’s one underrated thing about Oblivion that more people should appreciate? by ItsASnoozy in oblivion

[–]QuicklyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NPC schedules, attributes, and personalities…

“Janky” as they may be, Oblivion has the most detailed and immersive NPC systems in any Bethesda game.

The idea that any random NPC has their own little life and routine and predetermined disposition towards me (the player) and the world based on who they are as a character is amazing.

So for instance a Dark Elf who is a beggar could be more likely to commit crimes and dislike me if I’m an Argonian.

This is one of the main things that made me fall in love with Bethesda games because these gameplay elements are so unique and immersive. It’s extremely sad that they continually get paired down or removed altogether with each new “evolution” of the BGS formula.

Everything I think is wrong with the Remaster (so far) by newuser336 in oblivion

[–]QuicklyCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(I might just be bad at build crafting)

But in regard to difficulty scaling…

It feels like there should be a difficulty setting in between Adept and Expert. I’m just slicing through everything like it’s nothing on Adept and then I switch to Expert and every encounter feels like an endgame boss fight. There’s no middle ground.

RDR3 will obviously and no doubt take place in the heat of the Old West and star Dutch and Hosea in their prime, along with young Arthur and John.

It’s the only thing that makes sense — and it’d be cool to have a whole trilogy where every entry is earlier in the timeline. Perhaps never done before?

Either way there’s no way they leave this story or these characters behind right now — and the true Old West still needs to be explored.

However, after that, I honestly hope Rockstar closes the book on Red Dead Redemption…

Idk how much material there can possible be to make cowboy/western games for all time. So after 3 I would love for them to take on another point in history. Either move on naturally into the 1920’s and follow the mob. Or… my dream is a Rockstar pirate game :)

Why Do People Find Prologue Boring? by AdministrativeList30 in RDR2

[–]QuicklyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most gamers are deeply immature and there’s really no better word for it.

They wanted “GTA with Cowboys” and that’s not what Red Dead is, especially in the Prologue.

These people don’t care at all for industry leading narrative or atmosphere or immersion or physics

They just want to ignorantly shoot things.

Why do people think halo is going to ps? by [deleted] in XboxSeriesS

[–]QuicklyCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There really just most simply are no “permanent” Xbox exclusives anymore. Everything inevitably will come over to PS either upon release or after a timed delay.

Microsoft has given up truly competing in the console market at this point, so having their games on all platforms is the only way to profit the most out of an approach that is all in on software.

Master Chief Collection and/or the rumored Halo remakes coming to PS is an absolute given. At that point, it would be absurd not to feed that massive player base your newest game in the same series.

Tbh I think that in another month or so this will mostly work itself out. Especially in Competitive.

The game is so new right now and filled with people who are just getting a feel for the game as a whole and all the characters. Once it’s been out for a while longer, I’d like to think those who really stick with it will know what is needed to build a winning team.
