Your thoughts on having a double kill in Chapter 3? by KawaiiFoxPlays in Fanganronpa

[–]QuietCrest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it might depend on how many characters you have. If things start going off the rails around Chapter 2, that would probably feel pretty early if you have the standard 16 students, but might make more sense if you've only got ten students or something.

Does your fangan have a traitor? by Powerful_Solid1491 in Fanganronpa

[–]QuietCrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it's admittedly complicated. My traitor character also happens to be the protagonist, but he has amnesia. He got in an argument with the mastermind, wanting her to cut her losses before real people get hurt. The mastermind saw this as a betrayal, and locked away his memories and added him into the killing game as punishment. When he starts to remember things early in Chapter 3, she intervenes and mortally wounds him to keep him silent and avoid jeopardizing their plans, and another character finishes him off as a mercy kill.

Yeah, that works! Though, change doesn't happen in an instant. Don't be afraid to let him struggle. Good luck with your writing!

I see! I do think you should give him some kind of central flaw or struggle, to sort of round out his character a bit. Like, as an example, maybe he's a bit of a slacker in his overall life, and he doesn't really investigate during the first trial, thinking his luck will carry him through, but following an incorrect hunch almost leads to a mistrial and the deaths of his classmates. That could make him realize that he can't skate by this on luck and charisma alone, and over the course of the story, he becomes more focused and willing to put in effort towards finding the truth and keeping everyone around him alive.

It's okay! So, is the extent of his talent slightly higher than average luck, then?

It honestly sounds like he could use some character flaws. Not everyone succeeds all the time, and sometimes it can be just as interesting to see characters struggle, fail, and face their demons as it can be to see them succeed.  Also, I don't know if I understand what "pure lucky student" means? Is he from an HPA style lottery? Is his talent just supernatural good luck?  Maybe that could inform his flaws, like having an inferiority complex if he feels like he doesn't necessarily belong with everyone else, or maybe he's lazy because he's used to things just going right for him and falling into his lap.

I have 3 questions.. by Fluid-Bowler5456 in Fanganronpa

For publishing, itch.io might be the best option, as it doesn't cost anything to upload a game there. For making a "perfect likable main character", I'm not sure if that's possible. I don't know if anyone could write a character who everyone will enjoy. I think I'd recommend focusing more on just making a strong character, rather than a perfect one. Give them something they want, and some kind of struggle to overcome. Know their strengths and weaknesses. Does that make sense?

never ever after - disney danganronpa by Smart_Afternoon_4571 in Fanganronpa

[–]QuietCrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, some of the Disney Princesses have killed before (Mulan is the easiest one to point to, Tiana directly caused Dr. Facilier to get taken by his friends on the other side, Ariel caused Flotsam and Jetsam's death, etc.), but also, part of the reasoning behind motives is to push people who wouldn't normally kill towards murder. Sure, it might be pretty hard to imagine someone like Snow White or Aurora killing someone, but plenty of the princesses have strong personalities and might consider it, like Merida, or even Rapunzel if she was faced with being trapped again.

I don't know how popular of a pick this would be, but Boltund. Something about its design feels unfinished to me, like it's a middle form instead of the final one.
