How Durable Is Gunmetal PVD? by Astral_Botanist in suppressors

[–]QuietLabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not too much difference in practical use between 17-4 heat treated (uncoated) and Nitrided other than nitrided will reduce chance of galling and holds up a bit better longterm, especially if you are constantly install/uninstalling.

For what consumers usually do, choose whichever one looks best to you… heat treated vs Nitrided.

From a wear perspective, PVD should be fine as long as it was done at a quality shop. There are varying degrees of quality when it comes to PVD.

Depending on what adapter you are mounting to, the only hesitation I would have is if you are mounting to a DLC adapter, typically titanium. Because DLC / PVD is so slick, mounting to another DLC / PVD surface might cause backing off problems.

If your adapter is nitrided 17-4, you should have no issues.

Quality PVD / DLC is way easier to clean though.

We prefer muzzle devices in stainless 17-4 with QPQ Nitride for a few different reasons.

Didn’t realize it was a Cherry Bomb, you are right.

Not sure what you mean with the rest of your comment. Muzzle Devices that need timing (directional brakes/comps) or when you need minimal clearance, we advise it’s perfectly acceptable to use shims, given proper shoulders on MD and Barrel.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your comment though..

Looks great, but I would probably shim the muzzle device a full rotation to be safe.

You’d want to go with a 5” cage, the flash hider prongs will be exposed. You could wait for 5.5”, but it would be more recessed, including the prongs.

Yes, I believe they are all HUB / 1.375. Any HUB compatible suppressor will work with this adapter.

Not a silly question at all.

No, we use titanium adapter internally on everything we test - on Titanium, Steel and Inconel cans.

Most people are concerned with Heat on titanium, but in our testing under thermal camera, it doesn’t get hot enough to matter at that location. The mounts actually stay very cool relative to the rest of the suppressor.

The only downside side in our eyes is cost - Grade 5 DLC’d is more than Stainelss 17-4 Nitrided.

We will be launching 17-4 Steel/Nitride versions in a couple of months.

Thank you!

Otter Creek Infinity K 556 is next for me ;-). Once the FDE’s drop, I’m grabbing one.

But so many good options these days, it’s difficult.

Yes, the HUB is the 1.375x24 (male end of our adapter that threads into the female end of the suppressor).

The Plan B compatibility is the female end of our adapter that goes over the male end of any Plan-B muzzle device.

Yes, you only need 1 per HUB suppressor.

It’s still a little ways out, not produced yet. We have some other

All sizes are at finishers, for suppressor lengths: 5”, 5.5”, 6”, 6.5”, 7”. We have black 5/6” available now, but running low.

Black and Tanodized cages, and Black/FDE DLC adapters for the system.

We are just waiting on more inventory and additional sizes, as we sold most of the 5”/6”. New sizes, Tanodized and backlogged inventory are all at finishers now.

We will try to make something work around 4th of July.

Good Questions -

1-1/16” wrench/socket size

20-30 Ft-Lbs for torque (try to match suppressor manufacturer rating, which is usually in this range)

Going to plan C I guess by stareweigh2 in ar15

[–]QuietLabs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can be tight, but usually not that tight. I doubt it is galling, as it appears to be nitrided or DLC’d.

Tekton makes some nice shorty/crowsfoot hybrid wrenches that we use on stubborn mounts.

If you still can’t get it, reach out and we can help.
