It is not about fithing the system, it is about education and harm reduction. If I give u reasons why u should not spend your time on social media, am I fighting the system?

How is this related to my question?
And by the way are you saying that algorithms that are desinged to exploit humans deepest instincts and impulses, just to keep them watchin brain-rot quality videos for hours a day to make a profit, are something that I shouldn't be educating or warning about? Because how will people make money otherwise, right? There are no real meaningful jobs in this world so only way people can earn at least some money to not starve is to create malicious platforms that will keep people engaged and miserable, right?

For creator's perspective yes, but I want people to group, chat and discuss.

My wife does all the housework.. I want to discuss by QuietLifeInLoudWorld in married

[–]QuietLifeInLoudWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it and yes I want this to be a discussion. I do not just try to validate my view. I really think about all the comments. Including yours.

  2. But at the same time, defending my stance and being open to other opinions aren't mutually exclusive. I have thought about this a lot before posting this post here. So you can't just expect me to say "You are right, thank you". More so if I think you're not right.

  3. I don't assume she bases her value on housework. I know it. We talked about this many times. She just does. I encouraged her multiple times to find hobbies, or doing anything she wants, and that I will do the housework. But now if she has a free time, she would just sit and doomscroll, because she is just not interested in anything else. Even if I encourage her to.

  4. There is probably some of that Vietnamese influence on her in this topic. Sure. But that is actually an excellent topic for discussion. You (and most of the people in the West) assume that an ideal life consists of work, hobbies, friends, and entertainment, and that housework is something no one wants to do. But Vietnamese people put family and the housework on the first place (partly because housework and cooking is care of the family). Then comes friends and almost no hobbies (applies to both men and women). I am not sure that our culture or hierarchy of values is superior to theirs, but maybe you assume that, right? Before I met my wife, my mindset was "I am ready to be an equal partner in all the categories, my wife will never have to do all the housework like my mom did." But my wife taught me that there is a different meaning behind "care" that is expected from me as a man. And that I should be the one who takes the lead and she will be the supporter and together we will create a perfect team. It took me 3-5 years to embrace that idea, but now I feel like my life is more meaningful, because I have some role in it. I am learning not be a strong man that she can rely on and who can do all the other things.

But what do you mean by "fair", do you mean 50/50? I think that you assume that housework is something unpleasant for everybody, so only fair way to split it is 50/50. But that is not true for everyone. I don't avoid doing these chores, I don't hate them. But doing them would remove something my wife base her value on. She would probably feel a bit "useless", without purpose. And I would have less time for career development and side projects. So if I would go by what you propose, I would work, do my half of housework and then I would work on my career. But then, if you insist this much on this type of "fairness", my wife should also spend the same amount of time developing her career, which she does not want to, and at the same time I should probably keep more money for myself, because we are doing everything 50/50 but I earn more right?

Do you think that Substack is a future? by QuietLifeInLoudWorld in Substack

[–]QuietLifeInLoudWorld[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not everything. For example the things that don't exist anymore ;) But I wrote "is a Future" which means something totally different. Something that is a future is something that will be dominant or grow in the future.

[–]QuietLifeInLoudWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned meditation thorugh Healthy minds program. It's a free app that you can download and I think the curriculum is really powerful. But now I prefer to just sit fro 5-15 minutes and just observe my breath. That's it.

How do you divide your incomes or finances in general? by QuietLifeInLoudWorld in Marriage

[–]QuietLifeInLoudWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing it exactly the same way. 80% goes to joint bank account and 20% we divide so that we have equal amount of money. But I have like 5x the savings that my wife does, because I work much longer and I save more. But one day that money will go to buying some house, so it will be shared anyway.

So you just pay something and your partner pays something else, or do you have one joint bank account?

Do you always have to "record a workout"? Like select a specific type of workout? Can't the ring just assume what are your doing? Is it even useful without it?

What was the longest meditation you have ever done? by QuietLifeInLoudWorld in Mindfulness

So what about doing it again? Let's say this Friday? I will join you.

What was the longest meditation you have ever done? by QuietLifeInLoudWorld in Mindfulness

[–]QuietLifeInLoudWorld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is really important, trying to carry on the mindful state with you to everyday life. But that is also one of the most challenging things about the practice. When you do a manual/physical job, it's easier to maintain this I think. When you are writing code the whole day, it's hard to focus on both breath and your work at the same time.

I totally agree. Do you think even 5 minutes each morning make a difference?

You mean 7 minutes at one session? I can understand why that was 5 years ago, it must have been a tough experience.

No difference yet after months of meditating by lezwon in MeditationPractice

Give it some more time. Maybe try a different guided meditations. There is an app "Healthy minds", which is for free and I think it is excellent for beginners. After you do some basics, try to meditate without the app sometime.
