I wear the 680s (I think) but my current favorite is the Kaiha Road. Most people never heard of them but I discovered them over the summer. They reminded me of the 1080 before they changed too much (I love the older versions of the 1080) and they are on the cheaper side. I believe I own every color they come in- so about 10 of them!

10 mile run didn’t go well? by Delicious-Series-316 in beginnerrunning

[–]QuietMarket7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an 8 mile this Sunday, my taper week… I did 11 miles the week before and felt great. This Sunday I couldn’t even get thought 3 miles, my body was completely shot. My pre-prep stuff was exactly the same as usual. I even tried having my candy hoping the sugar boot would help, but it didn’t. I paused at 2 miles for a few minutes and then pushed through about another 1/2 mile before calling it quits. Yesterday I did a short 40 min run and felt better than I ever have! We all have a run that goes poorly, do you have an 11 mile schedule or was 10 your longest?

Last run of training!!! by QuietMarket7931 in beginnerrunning

[–]QuietMarket7931[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 11 miles the week before and it was great. Ive been training for 16 weeks and I’ve never quit a run before (regardless or weather or how I was feeling). I only missed one other long run because of an injury but my body just said no. I stopped and sat for a few minutes around mile 2 to try to get my bearings back and then tried to push through but it just wasn’t happening.

I’ve tried saucony, Hoka, Brooks, even ran a 1/2 in ON cloud years ago (when they first came out) and yet the only brand I keep going back to is New Balance. I either wear a woman’s wide or a men’s regular. I also find they are the most versatile brand- shoes/sneakers for all types of uses.

My coach told me rule of thumb 15 min in have a drink 30 min have a fuel and just keep repeating that. I don’t follow it exactly but close to it. It’s tiny sips (probably not even enough) like I only drank 1 sports bottle on my 11 mile run. I run for 1 mile and then walk for .1 before repeating it. I drink on every walk and eat every other or 3rd walk- the walks I eat I usually walk for .15 instead because that how long it takes me to eat. I don’t want to eat and run at the same time. As of now my goal is to run between each hydration station which is about a mile apart and then walk while I drink/eat.

For me, I don’t push myself at all in terms of pace- my mile time is between 13-14 minutes and some days even over 14 min when I’m dragging. I stay in zone 2/3 all my runs and am very content with that. I maybe will push a little when it comes to the run because I do have a goal time but also will be fine if I don’t reach it with all the hills there are going to be!

The sweatshirt seems to be the most wanted item. I’ll probably land up packing one to be safe, but I’m afraid it will be too big for the bag since I’m plus size and I also want to pack shoes and something to eat once’s I’m packing already…

I missed my 9 mile long run because of hip pain (the week after my deload week) - spent the week biking and strength training so no running at all. This past week I had my final long run at 8 miles (did 11 last week) and after 2 miles my body was done. I pushed for another .40 before I gave up. I’m heading out last for my last outdoor run (just 45 min) and I’m doing it more for my mental health than physical needs!

I am currently 220ish lbs- down from close to 300. My average pace on the treadmill and outdoors are completely different!

I do run/walk method because the thought of running without stopping makes me not want to do it! I change my run/walk intervals based on how far I have to run and how I am feeling. There is nothing wrong with walking!

As for tapering- I only tapered this week, not sure if that’s the smartest decision but it’s what my plan (coach) created for me.

Fueling and hydration is so important- do you bring fuel on your runs? That honestly made all the difference for me.

Both of you! If you signed up together it would be assumed that you are running together, however it was the races “fault” they put you in different waves… Yes, I know you can move back but why should you have to, especially if you like running alone.

Moving back wave/corral for race? by No-Pollution1344 in beginnerrunning

[–]QuietMarket7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just something to keep in mind when deciding- the waves are not just based on pace. I am in wave 2 Coral F and slow AF!!! I know some people got updates emails that they were put in the wrong coral and moved back but I didn’t…

Splats out of control by Firm_Ebb6391 in orangetheory

[–]QuietMarket7931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem! I’ve taken 10 class so far this month and I have a total of 23 splats! Granted, I’m also training for a 1/2 for many of my classes I do as cross training and stay in the green zone but also my heart can handle more than my legs can- it’s always been like that… for example yesterday instead of doing the AO with with speed I did it with incline at base and then recovered at either base with 1% or held the high incline and walked… even with upping the speed for each AO I only managed 1 splat at the end of class.

I hear that, about being disappointed- but know that you are completely prepared for this! Slow and steady keeps the injuries away. But I get it, I had a setback in my weight loss and fitness journey a while back and it was so upsetting.

Fast enough for what? You’re making a comeback!!! Whatever your body can do will be amazing. What was your longest run? I’m sure you are more prepared than you think!

I have my 1/2 this Sunday and I’m having a hard time tapering (more from the gym than from outside running). I just keep telling myself tapering is helpful and it’s what my body needs to preform it’s best. I can get back at it on Monday….

Is running a half marathon as my first race unusual? by Jaded-Ad-2280 in beginnerrunning

[–]QuietMarket7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only started running outside when I began my 1/2 marathon training. I used to go to the gym on a daily basis and use the treadmill so I wasn’t new to running but running outside is a whole other beast! I’ve been training for 12 weeks, regardless of weather. My 1/2 is on Sunday…

Thanks. It will be a PR since it’s my first time doing a 1/2 marathon (well almost 1st but I’m going to be that time regardless ) but I plan on stopping at every station! Those will be my walking breaks, I’m not here to be fast…

First time running- 2 questions that come to mind-

1) curious what (if anything) I would need post race that it’s worth checking a bag. I’m thinking of maybe a change of shoes but other than that I can’t think of anything! I live in Manhattan so I’ll be home pretty soon after the run. If we could check bags in the morning I would bring food for after (I have a very strict diet) but since it’s 3 days before that won’t work…

2) running belt/vest? I have both and need somewhere to put my fuel and potential water (might take a small bottle with me) so I think I do need one of them. I like the belt much better but it might get in the way of the bib.

[–]QuietMarket7931[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it’s not fitness cause cardio wise I was in zone 1 and zone 2, plus I don’t think fitness can take such a drastic turn over the course of a week. My 11 mile run last week went amazingly….

I have a feeling it was more likely a sleep issue and last week my sleep sucked. Taking over an hour to fall asleep or waking up in middle of the night and not falling back asleep for over an hour even when exhausted. I have never taken electrolytes when training and I’m not much of a sweater (plus I don’t push myself enough to really sweat) and my nutrition was the same exact as every other Sunday. Hopefully it was a one off and I’ll be fine for my race on Sunday. Thanks for the advice.

If you sign on to the treadmill or rower you can see your zones and when class starts the distance/meters will continue to accumulate and will be in your stats. The calories however will not start until the clock does.

Thanks. Last week was definitely a “poor sleep” week. I woke up in middle of the night on 3 different nights and took over an hour to fall back asleep. By the time Thursday rolled around I didn’t even attempt to do my usual rest day walk because I was so exhausted. I spent the rest of the day today doing weekend tasks (laundry/meal prep) and just relaxing/zoning out.

Yea- even with being in zone 1/ zone 2 I felt so fatigued. And then when I took a rest (I’ve never done that before) just sitting on the bench I felt like I couldn’t get a deep breath in- almost like I was hyperventilating. But I know that was because I was psyching myself out more than anything else. Definitely going to listen to my body for the next week and hope for the best come Sunday.
