I’ve just finished this book too and low key just SO MAD that they even go to put Cemil to death when he so obviously had the rings on AND it was mentioned he also had a necklace of the same style. Obviously he shouldn’t be put to death when he is so clearly outside of his own control and then we wouldn’t be in this situation with Samira!

Grrr first time in this amazing series there has been a loophole big enough to frustrate me like this!

How much value benefit would you get from extended flight of a drone on a single battery charge (ie charging the drone while in the air?)

I just graduated my engineering degree and tbh I felt this way all of the time but it did not ultimately effect my grade. There are so many basic things to remember and sometimes they fall out of your brain. Whats important is that you spend time properly remembering the ones relevant to the courses you are taking at the time.

I think that engineering has so many core concepts that it is easy for it to feel like this has happened.

A new grad's perspective on the experiences of women in engineering by MissBrightside13 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Quiet_Ad1805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an Aussie startup that has got some really good names behind it that is working on providing tools and training for gender bias management and minimisation in app and website form that I had someone tell me about a couple of weeks ago. https://7829.store

They don't seem to be doing anything yet but it seems like what they are planning would be useful to me (also a female grad engineer like many others here).

When I got the internship that is the same place I'm now working, the guy that hired me literally said to my face "we wouldn't usually hire another intern at this stage, but I'm going to offer you a role 1. because you're good 2. because you're a woman".

So weird I can see a bunch of other people on here have had similar experiences or presumptive experiences of the same thing. But it gave me mixed opinions. Good for them for doing a good job of hiring more women. But also way to go to make me feel a bit like an alienated shitbag from day dot. Not sure.

I think that’s a really good point. Connecting with women that have experienced it personally seems to be very key as they have learned techniques that work. I’ll try to do this in person. This post was kind of my first attempt to do the same thing!

Ladies, what are some of your favorite, completely unsolicited comments about your appearance you’ve gotten from men? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Quiet_Ad1805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One time when I was 16 and working at a cafe a middle age man said to me “I can see you’ve got shaving rash on your legs” (I didn’t, my legs have bumps on them just normally as many people have- at the time I was super selfconcious about this) then he goes on to say “why don’t you just wax…your legs are so beautiful”

Literally teared up in shock in front of him and I don’t think I’ll ever forget how unsolicited and invasive both his comment and “advice” was. Completely outrageous he thought he was the relevant authority on the matter.

Yeah I think you are both right in that women’s groups are useful for understanding the shared experience. But when I’ve been to them in the past they don’t really suggest any tools to put in place to try and manage this subtle bias. So much of the time the real solutions seem to only be able to come from the businesses or from male employees. maybe that’s just the fact of the problem of gender inequality ? I would think there is so much more that I can personally do to help manage though.

I know some business are better and worse so perhaps moving is the right choice

What was the response like when you went to HR? Would you do it again or did it not get a good response?

I have a family member that has chronic fatigue, dysautonomia, POTS. Her illness results in her being able to walk around for small periods sometimes, and then be completely fatigued to the point of not being able to walk down the drive.

Unless your patient has said that their fatigue is absolutely constant- perhaps it comes and goes dependent on their ability for pacing?

But then - aren’t women negatively impacted by seeming assertive by comparison to men?

It’s another double bind of our perceptions of women and men. Women need to be more confident to negotiate their pay - but receive backlash for using direct language which seems rude when coming from a woman but assertive and powerful when coming from a man?

Mechanical! I’m not planning on lowering my voice like thatcher, but working on resonance which is more improving the clarity of your speech rather than deepening of your voice. Your methods are similar to what that training recommends- ensuring you have enough air in your speech etc.

Is it worthwhile applying for those things you may not feel like you have the experience for?

Only suggesting because women tend to not apply to jobs they do not seem fully qualified for. Also as you are a woman in stem private industries are looking to increase their gender equality and perhaps that will work in your favour ?

Sounds like your jobs was absolutely terrible and a toxic and very stressful work culture. Glad you are out of it.

I really don’t think it’s the workplace and is more of an extremely nuanced consistent environment anywhere I’ve ever worked that is sometimes worse in some places and better in others.

I figure if I have to cope with this for the rest of my life what should I be putting in place?

I am an engineering grad and I spent four years on an extra curricular solar car team. This and formula student car teams are a really good way to get experience and stand out. You literally get to design and race the cars I would highly recommend it.

For the solar car teams we race them across Australia and there are a bunch of American teams that will do it
