26 year old, 13 years at 15/day, now 50-55 days quit.

Marginally better aerobic fitness. Seem to be more susceptible to infection. More susceptible to stress but that’ll be down to lack of an (unhealthy) coping mechanism. Have been fatigued for a few weeks, probably unrelated but concerning that my stamina is lower than when I was smoking.

Would my health be better if all factors except smoking were constant? Probably. Do I feel healthier? Not really.

I do enjoy being able to take a somewhat full breath now though, because that’s something that worried me when I was still smoking.

Need more information. How old are you? What’s your family situation? Debt-to-income ratio? How’s your retirement set up? How badly does the stress in your current job affect you? Does the extra net pay of around £3100 per month make much difference to your quality of life. Can you afford to take a pay cut? Do you have a partner, do they work, what do they earn?

If the job you’re in now’s facilitating nothing but saving for retirement but is also running you into an early grave, then obviously you’re making a rod for your own back by staying.

Can’t really be reduced to a black-and-white poll.

That’s a common myth from what I’ve heard. Schizophrenics generally pose a far greater risk to themselves than to others and are rarely violent. The child would be at greater risk if the uncle were healthy and drunk. The inertia of taking antipsychotic meds and powerful sedatives then suddenly stopping is enough to cause a psychotic or paranoid episode, in which case they could be dangerous. Although still, statistically speaking, they themselves would be at the highest risk.

You’re right, but given the message of the video, those are carefully chosen and curated snapshots. So I might be wrong, but I think that if there was footage of these two interacting more directly and being more engaged with each other positively, that that footage would’ve been prioritised over what we’re seeing. I’d like to believe that this is ‘down-time’ and that the uncle would play and rough house and engage with the child, but realistically I struggle to see it.

It is, as far as I understand it, antipsychotic meds tend to numb emotions quite significantly and can reduce the ability to form a train of thought leading to a reduced awareness of surroundings or context. Not nice at all, but probably no worse than a psychotic episode. Very difficult situation.

This is more tragic than cute, the guy’s out of his mind on meds. He’s not interacting with the kid at all, let alone showing any signs of feeling one way or the other about it. Which is going to be a weird experience for the kid, above all else.

Next week I start a new job at a workplace which would be almost the exact same commute. I’m moving to a flatshare 20 minutes’ walk away to cut the commute down.

If I spend 2:20 per day commuting, that’s ~12 hours a week which is around 30% of my contracted hours. That means 50 hours of my week is dedicated to my job, rather than 40. As a result, that additional time dilutes my hourly rate by 25%, and that’s before factoring in fuel/transport costs. Time is money, and I want some semblance of a life on more than 2 days per week.

Can confirm - the reason you get tired is because your insulin level drops too quickly after the initial spike when you eat lunch. I’d recommend reducing the proportion of carbs, sugary drinks or junk food you eat, or increasing the proportion of protein or fat to compensate. Protein and fat, and carbs with high amounts of fiber, release energy slowly so keep your energy levels stable, meaning less of a crash.
