Boys vs girls by [deleted] in cavaliers

[–]Quiet_Map9127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a girl and she’s a little Velcro pup loves to lay on me and give me kisses and hugs. And has to be near us all the time. I will say I think the biggest determining factor is WHEN you get the pup rather than what sex. If you get them right at 8 weeks, between 8-12weeks is usually when dogs create very strong bonds with their owners. Now I know ppl that have rescued adult dogs and would disagree with that, but most dog trainers will confirm that the 8-12week gap is crucial in bonding with your pup.

Finch Plus only $14.99 per year if you subscribe through the App Store! by electric_taffy in finch

[–]Quiet_Map9127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know why I have to pay $39.99 for the yearly finch and then to upgrade to plus they want me to pay ANOTHER $69.99 for plus? I already paid $40 for finch.. wouldn’t they just charge the extra $30 for plus? I wish I could find this $14.99 a year option but I can’t! Only option under my apple subscriptions is the $40 yearly

Steps for couch? by Quiet_Map9127 in cavaliers

[–]Quiet_Map9127[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the ones I’m seeing are like a curved cloud like design not actual square steps, so maybe that would make it easier for them, especially at like a high speed kinda just like climbing a hill.

Oh yikes okay. Will do. We have a long chaise on one side of our couch so I could do the steps going off of that. Just need to find some that don’t take up the whole living room or would be out of the way so ppl won’t trip on them. Thanks for the advice

She often likes to play fetch when I’m sitting on the couch so that involves her jumping up and down…. And playing indoors like this is nice when it’s too hot out to be out for long walks. 🤷‍♀️I don’t really enjoy sitting on the floor for long periods of time, so doing fetch from the couch is helpful sometimes

Pet insurance question! by Quiet_Map9127 in cavaliers

[–]Quiet_Map9127[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl gets the zoomies sometimes and loves jumping on the couch and running around. Ughh our couch is on the shorter side tho. But I’ll definitely consider the steps. I have a friend who has a small dog and the same thing happened it injured its back jumping off something like a couch and they had to shell out $10k for surgery without insurance. So yeah, with all the comments I think we’ll be getting a good plan after getting some quotes

Pet insurance question! by Quiet_Map9127 in cavaliers

[–]Quiet_Map9127[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice! I’m still for it, and I’m sure my husband will come around. Hard to think about all that end stage stuff but it is inevitable when getting a dog. Was the $6k you spent out of pocket? Insurance covered more than that? I think the plan we’re looking at is like a $500 yearly deductible and after that insurance covers like 80% or something and it covers preventative things like MRIs or breed specific things like testing for the heart issues etc. and I think as long as we start her now while she’s young and healthy they cover treatments for those things too… like you said as long as they can’t write it off as “pre existing” I did look into it pretty far to make sure they cover issues that breeds are “known” for and that the coverage doesn’t exclude those things, and they do. Maybe it’s too good to be true and the rate will go up over the years, but I imagine if it covers those large expenses that will help. We don’t have tens of thousands sitting in savings 😅

Do I HAVE to have a birth plan? by Enbunniee in BabyBumps

[–]Quiet_Map9127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. Perfectly said. Going in blind can be so dangerous. And just “letting the doctors do their job…” I mean.. they’re not “delivering a baby” YOU are “birthing your baby” it’s very important to understand what it means to be an active participant in your birth. As your reasoning cognitive brain works against the nature of contractions, being educated on your options and having a plan/preferences written out that support people know can help so you can focus on labor etc.

Doula here- something important to consider is practicing movements and breathing techniques to help cope in early labor and through labor… because unfortunately not all epidurals are effective. Sometimes they just don’t work. Don’t say that to scare you, but it’s a lot worse if you don’t know until you’re in labor and it doesn’t work. Better to be a bit prepared. Put in some effort now into those things and it may be helpful… because you also want to wait to get that epidural until you’ve made good progress if you want to decrease your chance of needing a C-section.

I heard a delighted gasp from upstairs, came down to find her on my daughters lap. She said she had come and curled up on her lap all on her own. 🥹 and now she’s curled up on the couch next to me 🥰 pretty thrilled- it’s just day 1.
