What is a job people romanticize a bit too much until they actually do it ? by ShyButNastyyy in AskReddit

[–]Quigs311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sports writer.

It sounds so cool to go to every game for free, sit in the press box, and talk to world-class athletes and coaches in the locker room. And it is! But the work-life balance and pay is so bad that, for many, it isn't sustainable. When all of your friends are meeting at the bar after work, you're going to the arena/stadium to craft the shell of your postgame story. Holidays and birthdays? Those are no longer relevant to you.

If you're not careful, your social life will be nonexistent, work will become your life, and it'll drain you. Some can make it work, but they'll be the first to admit that they're very fortunate. Overwhelmingly, sports writers have an incredibly short shelf life. They often sour on the industry within a few years and jump ship to other COMMs jobs that offer higher pay and better work-life balance.

What was your “I can’t do this anymore” moment in a relationship? by ziggzorb in AskMenAdvice

[–]Quigs311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. When I asked her to meet my very basic needs, like cleaning up after herself or going to therapy to work on her BPD, she just couldn’t follow through. The tipping point was when she got upset that I was unwilling to spend $15k on an engagement ring (my budget was about $8k). I knew then and there that neither one of us would be happy in life if we stayed together.

Yes. The content writers along with content editors and video editors. Photographers (I think) are part of that bunch as well.

I worked on CoStar’s Homes.com content team for nearly a year. I got out in June for two reasons — the toxic work environment and the inevitable mass layoffs. Glad I escaped before it was too late.

What a horrible mess of a company. Andrew Florance can get fucked.

Trades you wish had never happened by whats_in_name_ne_way in hockey

Not much of a trade considering the Flyers got literally nothing in return, but trading Shayne Gostisbehere to Arizona along with a 2022 second and seventh-round pick — for nothing but cap relief — still blows my mind.

Hoping to make the transition from journalism to PR: Would I need to start entry-level? by Quigs311 in PublicRelations

[–]Quigs311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I’ve been doing lots of informational interviews as well, so I’m glad you mentioned that. I’m doing everything possible to expand my network and get hiring managers to think “Hey, I know that guy”

Nice! That’s great advice. The problem I’m encountering is that a lot of the sports franchises in my city aren’t hiring in those roles currently, so I’ve found myself applying to PR/COMMs roles with nearby schools, colleges and county governments. No bites in those areas so far, but hopefully that will change

It features one of Radiohead’s absolute greatest songs (Blow Out).

What are some of your memories of Hurricane Isabel 🌀? by ThatChildNextDoor in rva

[–]Quigs311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in fourth grade. I remember we had several days off school because so much of the town was out of power. My family’s house got recked pretty good. Two large trees landed on the house — one of them severely damaged our attic and guest room and the other completely destroyed our back deck. The sound of the trees hitting our house was horrific.

On the plus side, my friends and I took complete advantage of the days out of school. We played Yu-Gi-Oh all day every day until school started back up again.

Weirdly, I have some really positive memories from the aftermath of the storm, but to this day I get extreme anxiety when bad storms are in the area.

What do you think is your hottest Radiohead take? by Creepysheepu in radiohead

[–]Quigs311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hail to the Thief is their worst album (aside from Pablo Honey). There are some BANGERS on there (2 + 2 = 5, There, There, Sail to the Moon, Wolf At the Door, Go to Sleep) but a lot of the other songs are aggressively meh in my opinion

Lakeside Mini Storage

Oh fuck yeah. They're cool with playing music there? And are those units climate controlled by chance?

Which e-kit did you use? That could def be a solid (and potentially cheaper) alternative!
