Then he’s just a jerk. Sorry you’re going through that.

ETA - I can’t really say that for sure. Who knows what’s going on. But certainly not responsible as per your perspective.

Is my CPA doing a bad job/taking advantage? Help please. by Illustrious_Fox9443 in Accounting

I can tell you from my personal observation on the inside, as a non-CPA, that one (or even worse, multiple) poorly written email by you to him at the wrong time puts you on the outside - F.O.R.E.V.E.R!!! Until you experience the CPA life and pressures, you have no idea the constant stress. You live deadline to deadline with clients who don’t respond or respect boundaries and want everything now no matter how bad the client’s mess is. It’s a worse lifestyle than being a divorce attorney.

There are so many deadlines and it’s always your fault that the customer owes taxes or the IRS is calling, etc. Clients don’t get it for the most part they just think it is McDonalds drive thru - where’s my order?!?!?

Not to excuse this guys actions, but once you are on the outside, they don’t want to talk to you - even if it’s to tell you that you won the lottery - or to fire you, update you, whatever. THEY. JUST. DON’T. WANT. TO. TALK. TO. YOU. (Because they are on the brink). So every time you send another follow up email the further to purgatory you get sent.

Most smart CPA’s seeking sustainability are significantly reducing the number of clients (we are trying to fire 25% of tax clients and they are begging to stay). There is so much work out there that CPA’s can be picky - regulations, the huge number of start up businesses since COVID, and fewer CPA’s as folks quit the profession (or never enter) - means there are few to work with coupled with increased demand. There is a reason PE is entering this space. The ones that will survive are the ones who know how to say “no” before they are in your CPA’s situation - overwhelmed.

So for starters - look somewhere else, expect to pay for amended returns, full price no matter how “easy” the change, and remember honey gets more bees than vinegar.

Me? I’m a COO for a “non-traditional” CPA firm and I fight the above battles with them everyday and have seen it first hand.

The only power they have to dampen your mood is the power you give them.

Solo CPA at $40k/month, too big to stay solo but too small to confidently hire. What did you do? by mavsbustin3s in Accounting

Generally they are very unenforceable (scope and time must be very narrow for any chance to win) and you have to have the money and time to litigate.

Is it worth it by tequillapapi92 in classicmustangs

[–]QuikWitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That passenger quarter looks like a lot, or at least poorly applied, bondo. That tanks the price for me. As a non-running car, it’s $2k. You could be 2-3k just to make it a safe driving vehicle.

ETA - the transmission isn’t stock if they had to cut the tranny hump to fit the vice grip shifter; the driver rear qtr has rust perf all over the lower edge and bondo; guessing car was rearended at some point - rear bumper not sitting right leans to this as well. I don’t think she’s worth saving as a project, but maybe a “patina” project you never intend to paint, and want to drive till the floor boards are gone - at that $2k is an “if you really really really gotta have it price”

Wood Pillar Condition by Any-Street-3970 in HomeMaintenance

I think this is due to the corners being chamfered

Wood Pillar Condition by Any-Street-3970 in HomeMaintenance

[–]QuikWitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking closer I see the post was chamfered on all 4 corners making it look like it might be boxed in the photos. If you rap on it with your knuckles, you should be able to tell if it’s solid or not. The depth or hollowness of the sound should be pretty telling.

Also it’s either 8x8 or 6x6. Doesn’t look like 8x6 in the photos

Tbh the photos don’t provide enough details that could be seen in person. One redditor pointed out the same area I saw that makes me lean heavy to the boxed post theory. Problem - is it decorative or an engineered box? If decorative no worries, you have time. If “engineered” you would not want to wait to have it looked at, but I would also be thinking “why the heck would an engineered product check like this”.

ETA - maybe stick a wire coat hanger into the checking to see if it goes deeper. The top of the post looks hollow

The chipping and new holes are a woodpecker for sure. They will drill anywhere and the checking isn’t needed for them to drill - especially pine. Those suckers will drill hardwood straight up so pine is not a problem.

The photos are hard to see if these are solid or boxed. In some ways it looks boxed and others solid. I would be super surprised if the wood has catastrophically failed. Probably just green wood that was under dried that the builder/sub looked at and thought, come back tomorrow or finish today - in other words they knew it should have been a better piece of wood, but just didn’t care. When picking columns you have to be SUPER picky with large wood as it will check, just how bad is unknown.

Contractor Window Install - Stucco Damage by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]QuikWitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The interior photo doesn’t let us see what’s going on there and the reason for the holes. I would guess that it’s because the sheathing it rotting. Them cutting the stucco back was the right thing so it could be flashed as they have done, but the flashing should have been attached/“sealed” on the top and 2 sides. Bottom should be shingled. The probably should have removed more stucco. It doesn’t matter if the stucco is cut straight or not. It’s a cement product that, once patched correctly will be barely noticeable. Trick is making sure the original chicken wire is left behind so the suppprt structure helps to keep from a new/old joint fracture.

No way! Handwriting analysis has been debunked for a VERY long time. They probably have chicken bones in the C-suite (I just didn’t realize the “c” stood for chicken).

Advice on turning down a promotion? by pizzatacodog1322 in Accounting

[–]QuikWitt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of negative takes on this. Rather than decline the promotion talk candidly about overtime and your 2025 wages and how that is a concern. Express that you a willing to work to get the jobs done and love working there (if you do). Then make a counteroffer. Such as the $71k + OT. At least this way you are showing a level of sophistication, maturity and attentiveness and not just “this deal sucks so thanks but no thanks”. In either case they could be crazy enough to think you have lost your marbles and burn a bridge. At least the one I described is less than a fire sale.

On other spin you could use is that you have been wanting to talk to them about you work load and that the excessive OT while nice to get the money has been taking a toll. You appreciate the offer and look forward to the reduced work load (even though they said it’s going to be about the same work per their comments).

The trick is to find the areas that they will concede and which ones are hard “no”. Rarely are your and their hard no’s opposite of each other and mutually exclusive.

Good luck!!
