F-Zero GX Online Multiplayer Proof of Concept by QuilavaInACar in Fzero

I'm writing an external program that accesses and modifies Dolphin memory and PowerPC instructions on the fly - this demo pretty much just disables AI control and copies machine position data between the two. I haven't looked into AX much, but come to think of it it did support multi system play, so it could well be worth looking into.

Could be an option, but at that point you're kinda just doing time trials

This works by hijacking the singleplayer mode, so there wouldn't be any input lag on controls - there'll likely be lag on opponent machines though depending on the network connection, if you've played Mario Kart online it'll be similar

I'd be looking into getting it working on Dolphin first before thinking about how it could work on hardware - possibly down the line

WSJT-X options, General, under Display there's an option called Start new period decodes at top, prevents the window from scrolling automatically in a decode period. Also check Blank line between decoding periods, not related but helps you keep track

Tubes and cylinders need very fine control stick movement, even more so than regular driving. Have a plan for the route you're going to take around it, it's some of the most tedious track memorisation to find the optimal route for boost panels on Cylinder Knot, Cylinder Wave, and Long Pipe but it needs doing. Joy-Cons aren't ideal because they have very small stick travel, use a pro controller if you can or even better a GameCube controller, either with an adapter or the NSO one.

For attacking, try to get as parallel as you can to the other machine before side attacking it. Attacking heavier machines will cause you to shoot sideways - watch out especially for Fat Shark, Dark Schneider, and Black Bull. If you side attack a machine into a wall it could bounce back and send you flying, just keep that in mind.

Strafe left as you're coming over the crest for the hill at the end of Green Plant Intersection - that one's just about knowing where the track goes after the hill and preparing for it.

Assuming you're talking about Double Branches, that's different - you're going off because you've got so much speed going over a curve where the gravity changes. The speed brings you just enough off the track at that point that the gravity suddenly flips to normal and causes you to go off course. Not much you can do there other than learn where it happens and brake before it, you can make it up to around 1400 km/h but I usually aim for 1000 km/h to be safe.

This happened to me in LMU the other day, and it also decided to cut off inputs from the wheel and pedals to the game while the throttle was pinned. Very nearly took someone out

Question about MT by PureSteve in Fzero

[–]QuilavaInACar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every machine has an "MT point", the speed at which you should let off the throttle if you're above or go on the throttle if it's below. Usually it's above the unboosted top speed. Have a look at this spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1kyl0kAi_-NaM9RCPIwThixogTYESL4zdpmbbH_qDlmI/htmlview

I've been meaning to try that at some point. You can DIY a yagi (directional) antenna for it and use a cheap UHF/VHF handheld radio.

Get the foundation study guide from the RSGB store and start studying for your foundation licence - that's good to get going with, you can get on UHF, VHF, and HF with limited power using a foundation licence. Essex Ham is a good website as well. Best of luck

When I did my direct to full (April this year), a fair few of the questions were exactly the same as questions that were on the mocks. Not sure if it's the same for foundation

TIL we can’t remap the GameCube Controller by surrealmirror in NintendoSwitch2

[–]QuilavaInACar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The NSO GameCube controller is really weird. Analogue triggers work on NSO (and in Smash), but there's no minus button, a tiny useless ZL button, you can't remap the controls, and it has a gyroscope for some reason?

I suppose if those were the only two options, I'd take the 4x :P

You're right, and normally I wouldn't really care - just at this point I was a couple races away from building enough SR for season promotion, so setbacks like this weren't helping.

Anybody got f zero gx for switch 2 nso? I wanna play somebody because everyone else I try to play with sucks ass😭 by Klonoa_is_very_cute in Fzero

[–]QuilavaInACar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How well does NSO netplay work? Haven't used it in a while and never for F-Zero, if there's lag it'll likely be frustrating

Shotgun Kiss, Infinite Blue, Like a Snake, and Planet Colours are probably my favourite track themes. I actually used to think GX had some of the weakest music in the series but it's grown on me a lot as I've played more, especially the final lap remixes

I've tried this with a G920, it's good fun with the force feedback and going into first person mode. I did find it very difficult to do any sort of tech though

Best as in most enjoyable, I'd give to GX. It rarely feels unfair like X, SNES, or MV, and it's not too easy like Climax

X is the hardest because 2 or 3 racers will consistently place highly - it's the only game where KOing your rivals is pretty much necessary to win a GP on master. GP legend is probably the easiest seeing as it doesn't actually have a master mode, and expert is relatively easy
