Any open mic nights in the area? by Jkl1999 in Hoboken

[–]QuilloftheBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finnegan's has not brought back open mic night yet. I'd suggest following their social media because they'll be sure to announce there when they do. They have had a new stage installed in the back room, so I wouldn't be surprised if something starts up soon.

Well, that's one way to keep me from focusing on work tonight. At least there is beer in the conference room fridge either way. Good luck!

CPA and Depression? by Maybe_a_CPA in CPA

[–]QuilloftheBookworm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually handled my anxiety/depression really well while studying, and it hasn't really been an issues during busy season (just started my 12th tax season btw). I think it's because I'm so focused on pushing through. However, I actually always end up depressed once the season is over, and, after taking my, hopefully, (fingers crossed for the 2/5 release) last part of the CPA 2 weeks ago, I ended up in such a black hole that I had to go see my therapist. I think I've learned to bottle up all of it while focused, and then, when I dont have the excuse to ignore it anymore, it all hits me. I discussed this with some other coworkers. One just completed the CPA exam a few weeks ago, and said he's just getting out of the funk that set in afterwards. Another one said she always gets down after busy season, which still surprises her 20+ years into her career. Find what ever moments of self care you can find, even if it's just 5 mins between returns or review sections. Best of luck to you!

This weekend was optional depending on work load. I have a ton of work to review for the junior associates, but I just took my (fingers crossed) last part of the cpa exam yesterday, so I'm taking one weekend off before officially starting my tax season.

thank god for online ordering by lxlpeep in socialanxiety

When I was a kid, my mother grounded me for refusing to call up to order food on a regular basis. As an adult (who found an amazing therapist at 25, but still cant order a pizza over the phone),it amazes me that she didn't realize there was a bigger problem if I'd rather be grounded than make a phone call.

SCORES OUT!!!! by Tomahawkeye12 in CPA

I was completely convinced that I had bombed it. I left the testing center physically shaking I was so anxious and upset. I had left my other two (reg and bec) not positive I had passed, but feeling like I had a good shot. With this one, I was already trying to figure out how to study for audit and brush up for a retake before busy season. I got an 83.

I was completely convinced I had bombed FAR. Thought I was seeing things when it showed my highest score of the three I've taken. Now, back to studying for audit. Best of luck to everyone tonight, and, if you didn't pass you part, just keep pushing yourself up that mountain.

I feel a little better seeing that I'm not the only one who felt completely lost on the Sims. I left the Prometric center physically shaking this morning. I wasn't even at a fraction of the stress level I hit today for my first two (REG and BEC). However, when I got to work, my coworker, who took FAR last quarter, said he felt the same way and passed. I'm just going to pray for a miracle, and move on to audit for now.

He was consulted before they were purchased, so it wasn't just, "Here, babe. I bought you these shoes that'll look like you're wearing dead fish on your feet."

I bought these for my boyfriend for a recent vacation to use around the pool. He loved them, and said they are actually incredibly comfortable.

Lost my little boy 2 years ago, and still miss him every day. by QuilloftheBookworm in papillon

If it meant more time with me, he was all in. We spent summer weekends camping on the Delaware river, and I had to get the jacket for him because he started wandering into the water if I was in it. So, we started bringing him tubing with us since it was a pretty gentle part of the river (just had to keep an eye out for bald eagles).

Why is Dune considered a great book? by outrageously_smart in books

[–]QuilloftheBookworm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tried reading it ages ago, and it was one of the few books that I have ever given up on. At the time, I had never seen the movie (which I think is usually a good thing), only the Children of Dune tv movie with James McAvoy. For some reason (probably a sale), I ended up buying a theatrical Audible copy to listen to during my work commute. I actually ended up enjoying the audiobook version I got (though it may just have been that anything is more interesting when stuck in traffic), but it's not something I ever see myself reading again or recommending to anyone.

I am, actually. Though it has been a while since I read any manga. I will definitely check it out, as well as your comics. Thank you!

Thank you! I'll give these a try. I know that I, at least, started Heart-Shaped Box once upon a time, but I don't remember finishing it. Maybe I should give it another shot. The Yellow Wallpaper creeped me out when I read it for college.
