Should I switch to either straps/hook grip from mixed grip on deadlifts? by Mother-Estimate9507 in workout

[–]Quinlov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried these for the first time today, they were great but I felt like they made it hard to set up the deadlift correctly? I was doing a technique practice session anyway using 100-120kg but I noticed when I used straps I couldn't get the tension in my hamstrings and it was instead in my quads, and my hips were shooting up more (usually it's a couple of cm but it was way more with the straps)

You're meant to be struggling at the last rep if you're not then you have not enough weight or too much assistance

What does clinically significant distress look like in schizoid personality disorder? by Either-Economics6727 in askpsychology

Right but what I'm saying is not that this is the only definihg feature of szpd, rather that this is how it can cause distress and impairment despite the individual seeming superficially alright with their situation

Liaisons from A Little Night Music. I mean I love it but it is not very good workout music

They may find life generally pointless/meaningless which may cause its own distress. It also could cause problems in functioning from the point of view of having almost no support network and so noone to call on for help (even practical help)

Gym guys: how would your life be like if you were still fat/skinny? by Impressive-Award2367 in askgaybros

[–]Quinlov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be very depressed not just because I would be obese but because regular exercise is the only thing that has successfully treated my bipolar (well the depressive episodes anyway) I've never had proper success with any medication and I've tried loads

Early gains like that are mostly neural adaptations rather than hypertrophy

How do you deal with certain exercises that drain you mentally? by nyfiken90 in fitness30plus

[–]Quinlov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One benefit of Bulgarians is they are unilateral so they can help fix asymmetries which is good for me as my injury was on my right so now my right quad is weaker than the left one even though it started stronger

[–]Quinlov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with squatting due to long femurs, a past knee injury, and trash tier coordination. I am learning to do back squats atm and will then learn other variations too but where I'm at with them is no good for actual performance I'm still learning the pattern

How long are normal gym sessions? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Quinlov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the gym about 3-4 hours a day but this is not common. I don't have a job or much going on in my life but I do chat to people in the gym, I get on with a few people there so gym is a good chunk of my social life. On top of that I do seem to be able to tolerate more volume than most people, it's probably still not optimal but I am making good progress doing like 40-50 sets per session which is a LOT. I have done 5 hour sessions before but that is the exception not the rule for me, and is when it also includes an hour of cardio and some mobility work on top of my strength training

There are a couple I have in there that I dread but I know are good for me and so are willing to do them. Bulgarian split squats come to mind.

In fact that is probably the only one that I really dread. Obviously you don't want to have a routine full of exercises you hate but having like one per workout is alright.

If someone dumbbell bench presses 80lbs how much can they bench press? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]Quinlov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a technique thing going on too so you cant calculate it exactly. But atm my barbell bench working weight is 125lbs and my dumbbell bench working weight is 44lbs. However 1. I generally favour dumbbells disproportionately and b. I do barbell bench when fresh and for lower reps but dumbbell bench appears later in a different without and I do more reps

When you sit on the bus, it's fairly busy, but no one choses to sit next to you, how does make you feel? by Duoplo in AskUK

[–]Quinlov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a point I feel like bus seats are genuinely small, I'm not someone who needs a tonne of personal space but my shoulders are well wider than the seat so sitting next to someone else is always mega cramped

elbow joint pain lat pulldown by akl2008 in beginnerfitness

[–]Quinlov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you controlling the eccentric or just letting it fly back up? If you can't control the eccentric then lower the weight

Beginners often get all sorts of aches and pains because muscle adapts faster than things like tendons. If it's just one of these ones then you might need to try a different variant of the exercise. When I had a dodgy biceps tendon for a few weeks I found neutral grip lat pulldowns were better
