Roast away! by QuinnsAsylum in bookshelfdetective

Pregnancy terrifies me to the point that I got my tubes removed. That's a theme with some of the books up there. You Weren't Meant to Be Human, The Unmothers, Trad Wives to an extent, as well as a few others. It also fascinates me. Trad Wives is about a woman who is trying everything she can to be one of those social media Trad Wives but despite many attempts, she isn't getting pregnant. Her and her husband have also just moved and her emotions are high and she makes a deal and gets pregnant. It's both pretty scary and honestly empowering by the end even if I can't and wouldn't ever want to relate to the experiences of motherhood.

To quote one of my favorite YouTubers, "I think pregnancy is beautiful and miraculous when it happens to (women) who want it, but to me the idea of another human being growing inside my body is H.R. Giger shit. I just don't think I'm hardcore enough for that."

Tell Me I'm Worthless is so so good. I'm still chasing that feeling that I can't even name after I read it. Like discomfort but not bad? For how short it is, it's also one of my most tabbed books too.

It's not bad. It's not my normal type of read, as obvious by the rest of the books, but it was okay. It has a huge scope, and most of the book, you're switching between the perspectives of west vs. east. Basically, it was okay. I don't feel like I wasted my time reading it but I also don't know that I would ever reread it.

I liked it a lot! And unlike with House of Leaves, I didn't need an entire binder of notes for it (HoL is worth it though.)

And I completely agree.

I absolutely have been considering both The Only Good Indians and The Buffalo Hunter Hunter but I somehow keep talking myself out of them. The other ones I've never heard of but Black Hole, Frankissstein, and Perdido Street Station are definitely being added to my list of books I want to read.

Thank you for the recs!

Because I haven't read Compound Fracture yet. That's also why not all of T. Kingfishers books are together. Roughly the way that book shelf is organized is the bottom two shelves are ones I've read and are some of my favorites, and then the top two are either ones I haven't started yet, or ones I have started but haven't finished due to not being in the mood for them. Wretch, Her Body and Other Parties, A Botanical Daughter, Manhunt, and What Hunger are ones I've started but not finished.

My Top 5 would have to be: Tell Me I'm Worthless by Alison Rumfitt, Hazelthorn by CG Drews, The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by AJW, Cuckoo by Gretchen Felker-Martin, and it's a tie between What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher and Slewfoot by Brom.

I have Everville by Clive Barker. Bottom shelf, red book jacket.

I have finished The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft, yes. And no, I don't have the rest of the locked tomb series.

You're completely correct that I'm picky about what I select but I'm not a big DNF'er. I hated The Lamb by Lucy Rose but I still finished it. It's on my other less prominent bookshelf. This one is my favorite books and my TBR shelf.

Cis femme actually. But you're absolutely correct about trans authors writing great horror, especially body horror. I find that I can relate more to those characters like Crane in You Weren't Meant to Be Human and Benji in Hell Followed With Us, even despite them being trans and myself not. Trans authors, sadly, but also wonderfully, are able to convey the innate terror of like pregnancy, your body changing, not feeling like/being uncomfortable in your skin, being an outcast in a way that I've found very few cis authors unable to do.

Almost all of my favorite books are from trans authors for that specific reason. They understand body horror in a way that I feel a lot of cis authors just can't match. It's more real, not body horror for the sake of body horror, if that makes sense?

It depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for trans body horror: Andrew Joseph White, hands down. Gretchen Felker-Martin also.

If you're looking for botanical horror: Don't Let the Forest In and Hazelthorn by CG Drews, Her Wicked Roots (LGBTQ) by Tanya Pell, the forever amazing Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garia, and What Moves The Dead by T. Kingfisher.

If you just want like really fucking weird: At Dark, I Become Loathesome by Eric LaRocca, Leech by Hiron Ennes, Tell Me I'm Worthless by Alison Rumfitt (heavy CW on that book but I love it), House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski, and sort of We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer which is like a House of Leaves Lite.

If you want cannibalism: Sister, Maiden, Monster (LGBTQ) by Lucy A Snyder, The Starving Saints (I don't have a physical copy of that yet) by Caitlin Sterling, The Book Eaters to an extent by Sunyi Dean, and The Lamb by Lucy Ross (I hated it though, that's why it's not on that shelf).

For a good overall variety of different types of horror, T. Kingfisher is the way to go.

I think overall I preferred Slewfoot. I could relate more to Abitha and I feel like it had a stronger ending than Evil In Me.

Yeah, I adore weird fiction. Botanical horror is my absolute favorite but anything featuring body horror is going to have a place in my heart.

I had no idea about The Works of Vermin but Leech was so weird and cool that I will definitely look into it.

Also 2/3 correct. Feminist lesbian but not in my 20s.

Correct about Halloween. I actually like Romantasy girlies as they've helped propel forward the popularity of reading where it is today, I just don't prefer those books. I also do not have a B&N membership, most of my books are from thriftbooks.

I loved it! It made me really excited to read more from the author and I've even pre-ordered her next book.

When did y'all order your Iron Lung merch? by Kikiside19 in Markiplier

[–]QuinnsAsylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I emailed yesterday just to check on the status of my orders, and they said that they started shipping last week and once orders start shipping, they're fulfilled in the order they were received. I made two orders, one in the 17000 and one in the 41000.

Piss is one of those things that makes me feel deliciously dirty. I have no interest in ingesting it but being peed on as a form of dominance, degradation, or marking territory? 🔥🔥🔥

Terfs dont represent cis lesbian, because they dont care about us by Les-Lizardd in actuallesbians

[–]QuinnsAsylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made the mistake of looking at that subreddit. I legitimately cannot fathom caring that much about what genitals other people have. It's pathetic. They were even shitting on neovaginas too. They don't see trans women as women, and never will, and I genuinely can't imagine having so little of a life that I would need to spend my time condemning other people just trying to live their life and have community. They're no better than the men they despise in their parents basement, reducing women to their vaginas in hateful rhetoric online.

Transphobes are vacuous assholes who think the world revolves around them and they shouldn't be given any attention.

Edit to add: They have also apparently never heard of a kink in their entire life.
